GuruNet Business Rules

In one sitting, it is impossible to anticipate and write down all business-rules.

In enclosed pages, you will find some. As & when some new ideas come, I will keep sending notes.

In the meantime, pl. study enclosed as soon as you can, so that, we may debate each point (pros & cons) and reach a conclusion.

[Signature/Initial]

GuruNet (VEE) [Date] 27-06-05

Business Rules / Features / Processes

GuruNet will consist of a Virtual network of websites – mostly jobsites – to begin with. Only jobsites.

Partner jobsites would need to have following "processes" on their websites currently

  • For Corporate-clients (Subscribers)

Job Adut. Posting } PAID

Resume Search }

  • For Jobseekers } MOSTLY

Resume Posting } FREE

Job Search }

Resume Blasting (Free or Paid)

Partner jobsites would agree to POOL into GuruNet's common/central database

  • All resumes getting posted by jobseekers
  • All job-advts " " " " " Corporates

This would mean, from any partner jobsite,

  • A corporate would be able to Conduct

a resume Search on COMMON/POOLED resume database

  • A jobseeker would be able to conduct jobsearch on COMMON/POOLED job-advt. database.

This (pooling of assets) is the CORE principle of GuruNet.

It is only thru POOLING, that GuruNet can succeed in attracting a large no. of jobseekers and large no. of (paying) Corporates

It is only thru POOLING, that GuruNet can expect to rival/overtake Monster/Naukri.

For GuruNet, hosting platform will be Recruit-Guru.Com (RG)

On RG, there will be "Online registration by willing jobsites (Application for Membership).

Before activating MEMBERSHIP of any applicant website,

  • There will be some kind of online/offline "verification" re: genuineness of applicant (We do not want any pornographic/ dubious / fly-by-night website to become Member).
  • There will be receiving of a "License-Fee" from applicant. This will be thru cheque with a covering letter. In any case, we are not expecting thousands of members, so we will not provide online payment.

The license-fee, to begin with, could be a very small amount of Rs. 100/= per year (which could be raised gradually in subsequent years).

The "license-period" (of one year) will start from the day we "activate" the service. This means next license-fee amount will fall due on anniversary.

Hence, license-periods will not coincide (may not coincide).

License-Fee (even a nominal amount) is necessary to establish

  • RecruitGuru as Licensor
  • Partner Jobsite as Licensee,

in order to protect our Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) over softwares & technologies (our ownership)

to be able to "terminate" any member's license, in case of breach of any license-conditions/terms.

We may even decide to draw-up and enter into a brief (2/3 page) offline/hardcopy "License Agreement" on stamp paper to protect our legal rights.

All job-advts and resumes flowing into the COMMON/CENTRAL database, would automatically become

PUBLIC DOMAIN INFORMATION

to which, no partner jobsite/s, individually or collectively, claim any ownership/copyright.

When a job advt or a resume arrives into CENTRAL/COMMON database from a given jobsite, a copy will remain in the LOCAL/INDIVIDUAL database of that website.

That concerned partner (member may decide whether or not to retain that record/document in its own database and when to delete it.

Under no circumstance the entire COMMON/CENTRAL database, reside on   n the local webserver of any partner member.

How long to retain any given job-advt or any given resume in the COMMON database, will be decided by RG at its sole discretion – although RG will laydown a "GUIDELINE FOR RETENTION" and make it known to all members thru an ADMIN TOOL.

On RecruitGuru.Com itself, there will be no provision for any of the processes, VIZ

  • Job Posting / Resume Search (Corporates)
  • Resume Posting / Job-Search (Candidates)

The UI for all the above-mentioned processes will be "identical" as pulled from https://www.google.com/search?q=RG.com

Displays will also be identical.

The advantage is that if any change is required to be made, it need to be done ONLY on RG server.

New features (eg: Job Adut. Broadcast) can also be added from one single source (i.e. RG).

Subscribing Corporates will be able to download full resumes (those that get shortlisted, at the end of a resume-search).

Q:

If, after subscribing to Monster, we are able to download thousands of resumes automatically, then how will we prevent someone else playing the same trick on us?

Jobseekers (conducting jobsearch) will be able to

  • download full job adut
  • email " "
  • apply online

Even though this service is FREE, they would need User ID / Password.

For jobseekers, a RESUME-BLASTING Service will be incorporated (to send resumes to placement agencies).

By keeping a substantially lower "price/charge" for resume-blasting, as compared to Monster / Naukri / JobsAhead, our partner jobsites will be able to attract a large no. of jobseekers to take advantage of this service. This will enable them to make money.

In Resume-Blasting service, a partner website

fixes price

collects money, then

activates

So we will need a signal from partner before we could email resume.

Points to be decided:

No other jobsite displays the names of the placement agencies - hence a jobseeker is "kept in dark". If GuruNet displays these names, it will merit "credibility"

Most jobsite offer only one-or-two options, such as

  • Blast to 500 agencies
  • " " to 1200 " etc.

and charge between Rs. 500 to 700.

Can we think of an option, where a jobseeker himself decides & selects agencies ($\square$)? In this case, he is not forced! If he selects 212 agencies, he sends cheque for Rs. 212/=! NOW, he feels he has the control.

Resume-Blasting to Corporates (End-Employers)

I dont think any site offers this option. If GuruNet offers, then it will "differentiate" itself from run-of-the-mill jobsites.

GuruNet must "differentiate" itself from all routine jobsites - and not merely in the size of its job-adut. database/resume database, but also in terms of its "features" & the "convenience" it offers to both jobseekers & Corporates. It must make their life "Simple".

We can provide a droplist (or more than one droplists) of Corporate-Names and then a jobseeker can Select ($\square$) any no. of these.

Once jobseeker has paid the partner website - and we get signal - we blast the resume to the Selected Corporates.

In this feature, jobseeker bypasses the intermediary VIZ: Placement Agencies. His resume directly reaches the employer!

The dropdown lists could be:

BS 500 or ET 100 Top Companies

Most frequent job-advertisers (as found from our database of job-advts - constantly updated -) arranged in descending order of the no. of advts. released/posted.

The "No. of Advts Released (Cumu)" itself could be displayed against the name of each advertiser (incl. Placement Agencies).

This (descending) arrangement will tell the jobseekers

"Who is hiring the most?"

He will think his chance (of appointment) is better/higher if he applies to such companies.

'Resume-Blasting to Employers' could become a feature which enables a partner jobsite to make more money. At least, we must promote it as such.

If GuruNet can boast of many features whereby jobsites can make money, they will be willing to join VEE.

Job Advt. Broadcasting (JAB)

This could, perhaps become THE MOST POWERFUL feature to enable partner jobsites to make TONS of money!

And this is one feature which Monster/Naukri CANNOT offer!

When a Corporate posts a job-advt. on any partner jobsite, at the Bottom, there will be a message:

"Dear job-advertiser:

Thank You for posting your job-advt. It has become "searchable" by all jobseekers conducting jobsearches from all partner websites of GuruNet.

But this is still, a "passive" method. Your advt. will just sit there in the database, waiting for some jobseeker to come by and discover it! There is no way it can Shout/announce its presence!

Do you want your advt. to go out and reach-out to most suitable candidates?

On their mobile-phones?

within next 15 minutes?

And then started getting resumes within next 30 minutes? – instead of 30 days!

We will do this for you – for just Rs. 1/= per candidate to whom we deliver your

Job Advt. Broadcast (JAB)

We will deliver your JAB, thru our associate

www.World-Wide-Jobs.com,

using their Job Alert Mobile (JAM) service.

Then we will send you the bill, mentioning the no. of JAB sent out.

To convince you, you will be charged nothing for the first 10 JABs.

Just say,

"Please JAB my job-advt $\boxed{\checkmark}$."

A partner jobsite may also decide/declare to adjust JAB charges from "Resume-Search" subscripiton amount lying to the Credit of Corporate? But how? I think

a jobsite would need a Corporate to ask for a separate "Advance" for JAB service. After each broadcast, an automatic email would go out to concerned corporate as follows:

Dear (Corporate Subscriber)

Job Advt. Broadcasts (JAB)

Your JAB account is as follows:

A/c NO: $\boxed{\phantom{XXX}}$ Date Activated $\boxed{\phantom{XXX}}$

Amount Deposited as advance: Rs $\boxed{\phantom{XXX}}$

Date of use

Job Advt. code.

$\dots$

$\dots$

The purpose for providing these columns is that, at someday, in future, JAB could cost Rs. 2 (instead of Rs. 1).

Q:

Could we allow jobsite to fix the "rate"?

I don't think so. Since "Service Delivered" (i.e. no. of JAM subscribers to whom JAB gets despatched as SMS) remains SAME, irrespective of from which partner jobsite, a Corporate activates JAB!

What are the different ways/methods by which a partner jobsite can/will make money?

CURRENT SCENARIO

  • Left Half: Resume-Search Subscriprion from Corporates
  • Right Half: Job Advt. Posting Subscriprion from Corporates

FUTURE SCENARIO

[ When jobsite joins GuruNet network ]

  • Revenue From Corporate Subscribers:
    • Advt. Posting
    • Resume Search
    • Job Advt. Broadcast (JAB)
  • Additional Revenue from Jobseekers:
    • Resume Blasting to Placement Agencies to Corporates
    • Email Job Alerts
    • For Attaching FUNC. PROFILE to Resume during Apply-Online. (Shaded Area)

This diagram should be made part of our "GuruNet Membership Offer" Folders which we will send to jobsites. They would think of joining when they see so many extra "Stream of Revenue".

Job-Alerts thru email

Many jobsites are currently offering this – and charging a fixed monthly/quarterly/ annual subscription to jobseekers. We too should have this feature on GuruNet.

While offering all these services/features, our problem will be to devise a foolproof billing/payment/account-keeping/activation software. To understand look at following:

USERS →

Corporates

Candidates

SERVICES $\downarrow$

Fixed Annual (or Quarterly) Subscription (Advance)

Job Advt. Post Resume Search

E-mail Job-alerts

Pay-Per-Use Charge

Job Advt. Broadcast [JAB]

Next look at following:

Service

How will it get "Activated"?

TO Jobseekers

Email Alert

"

Prepaid/Fixed Sum (M-Q-A) STOPS when Period gets over

Resume Blast - Corpo. - Pl. Agencies

These, being "ONE-TIME" activities, will get activated after receiving from partner jobsites, a "SPECIFIC SIGNAL" ($\odot$) (AS opposed to "PERIOD-BASED SIGNAL" ($\oplus$))

- Prepaid but "Amt" of advance will correspond to No. of Corporates or Agencies selected for blasting

Attach FUNC. PROFILE graphs

"Period-Based" Signal from jobsite

Prepaid/Fixed Sum for M/Q/A STOPS when Period

I feel even "Attach Func. Profile graphs to resume" service should be made a Fixed Monthly/Quarterly/Annual subscripiton - payable by candidates in advance to partner jobsites.

Why get into the trouble/hassle of keeping count of "No. of Apply Online" clicks? - then keep adjusting PREPAID amount paid/balance etc. etc.? Too much overhead.

If we do this, then the only "Pay-Per-Use" services remaining, will be

  • JAB ( For Corporates)
  • Resume Blasting (For Jobseekers)

I don't think any candidate would want to blast his resume again & again to placement agencies/corporates. But you never know what jobseekers will do, if, for a Onetime" fixed amount, they could be entitled to "Unlimited" blasting for a month or a Quarter! so, we may be better off, keeping it "Pay-per-Use".

To really simplify matters - at least till GuruNet really becomes very popular Amongst corporates & jobseekers - we should even consider making JAB as a "Fixed

Charge" service for 3 month. Then we can figure out, how many jobs actually get "broadcast" to how many JAMMERS. If the load becomes too much, we could later convert JAB into "pay-per-use" (-involving all counting/ accounting/billing/balance-calculation problems).

With bandwidth/hosting & hardware prices falling all the time, I believe, more & more service-providers would want to change-over to a "Fixed Monthly/Quarterly charge", irrespective of usage. This is already happening in mobile-phone services.

Earlier I spoke of a "Revenue-earning feature" "Attaching FUNC. PROFILE graphs to resumes when delivering these to advertisers. I even put it under "Pay-Per-Use".

I looked upon this as an additional source of revenue from jobseekers.

On second thought, I think it is a bad idea to

make it "Pay-per-Use"

payable by jobseekers.

I think, this feature/service must be made FREE!

We may not even mention it anywhere on GuruNet pages.

we just quietly process each resume thru GumMine to generate FUNC. PROFILE graphs.

But we don't send regular ImageBuilder to employers.

We simply attach FUNC. PROFILE graphs - with a brief note, explaining its significance and how percentile-score makes an HR mgr's life so easy & increase his productivity manyfold.

Jobseekers need not even know that we are attaching their FUNC. PROFILE graphs to the advertisers.

for obvious reasons:

If we intend charging a job-seeker for this "optional" service, then first we would need to convince him how it would help him - besides explaining, how these profiles get generated in the first place - not an easy task.

If a particular candidate's percentile score is "Low/Poor", in any case, he does not want ANYONE to see his profile - certainly not by a recruitment manager!

Even if a candidate gets high percentile score and therefore, he is keen to show it to Recruitment Manager, there is, earlier-mentioned hassle of counting/accounting/ billing/payment/balance etc. etc. A very complicated proposition indeed.

On the other hand, let us see what happens, if we simply attach & send the profile, along with each & every "apply online" click, without the knowledge of the Candidates?

We can claim/boast to Corporate job-advertiser that, we are giving-them this FABULOUS/FANTASTIC, "Value-Add", absolutely free-of-cost!

We can claim this like CRISIL or S&P or DUN & BRADSTREET's

"Rating" given to all Companies.

No Company can influence this $3^{rd}$ party - independent - unbiased rating.

Because, above-mentioned companies DO NOT accept any money/fees from the companies which they are rating! Hence the rating-companies (CRISIL etc) do not

stand to gain/benefit by rating some company high (AAA+) and some company low (-BB).

This independence/neutrality gives "credibility" to their ratings. The ratings are above suspicion!

We must claim the same to Corporate job-advertisers by saying, "we do not accept any fees from jobseekers for rating/creating their function profiles. We do not create FUNC. PROFILES of only those candidates who pay us (i.e. to our partner jobsites)."

  • We rate all of them.
  • We don't show them their rating.
  • We don't share FUNC PROFILES with them. We do it, purely as a Value-Add for you, to increase YOUR productivity.

And, last & most important point,

  • You can get these FUNC. PROFILES of candidates ONLY from GuruNet partner Jobsites. No other jobsites can give you these—neither Monster nor Naukri.

Hence, if you Value these "Ratings," you better post all of your job-advts on GuruNet jobsites!

23/24

no one can search/see their resumes!)

$\to$ Or from GuruNet to WWJ

(In any case this does not serve any purpose, because, on WWJ there is no resume-search!)

Of course, what we will directly download from Monster/Naukri or any other jobsite, including $3\text{P}'\text{s}$ so far accumulated $\text{att}$ resumes, will go into GuruNet database.

When a candidate conducts job-search, the short-display must show, against each job-advt, its "Source" i.e. name of jobsite (as done in JAIS). This will convince the candidates that GuruNet does "aggregate" jobs from many jobsites (of course, since he has no independent method of finding whether all of these jobsites are "partners" or not, he will simply think/believe that they are partners!)

It is very important to give to both jobseekers & to Corporates, an impression that GuruNet has a large no. of partners—especially to Corporates.

We must also use this "gimmick" to convince "potential" partner jobsites to join GuruNet.

24/24

All we need to do is to provide some User ID/Password to such "potential" (but hesitating) job-sites and tell them,

Sir,

Now conduct a job-search and see for yourself, how many thousands of job-advts. we have.

Also see the "Sources". Most of these sources are our partners!

You can also conduct a "resume-search" and in the short display, against name of each candidate, you will find the name of the "partner" jobsite from where this resume came!

But if bulk of job-advts & resumes have come from Monster/Naukri, they are unlikely to believe what we say!

So, we would (at least to login with), need to download job-advts & resumes from a large no. of small jobsites—in order to create an impression, that many jobsites have joined GuruNet!
