One of the major problems faced by Placement Agencies (and to a less extent, by End Employers) is to post same job-advt, again & again, on various job-sites. This is a very tedious and time-consuming task. This is a PROBLEM.

Compose one single job-advt on Recruitgum (GinniAd)

Chicken checkboxes bearing names of various jobsites

And GinniAd should take care of the rest. within minutes, same job-advt should get automatically posted on all jobsites (check-boxes) selected.

We should consider offering this transaction/feature FREE (at least initially) on condition that, all resumes received in response to such an advt. get into the Subscriber's PRIVATE database automatically- AFTER getting processed/extracted - also automatically- . So, whereas composing Advt is FREE, we make our money in "Extraction" (i.e. provided extraction is not FREE!).

This will require that "E-Mail ID" mentioned in the job-advt is HARD-CODED and

In the enclosed graph, I have shown "SOME" of the possible scenarios - but not all.

I may not have even envisaged ALL possible scenarios.

Some of these scenarios can be tackled thru messages/validation/stopping further process etc, until "plottable" data-points are entered.

In other cases, where "data-points" are "plottable" (technically) but do not make SENSE (at least at first glance), you will need to Enter/type some

"Explanations"

on the graph itself, so that jobseeker and the recruiters, quickly grasp what exactly happened - what "caused" a funny-looking graph. Graph must be self-explanatory. A Recruiter should not have to "ascribe his own interpretations" to the graph, nor should he need to tell the candidate to "Explain" these apparent "anomalies".

If the background of all pages is LIGHT BLUE, then what colour of text characters/alpha. will contrast and stand-out? Black or White? will need to be experimented.

While parsing, some fields may fail to extract altogether, leaving field blank. These should be highlighted in some manner so as to draw the attention of jobseeker to these fields in order to EDIT.

Within the text resume, we should highlight (by different colour?) those "words/values" which were picked up by our parsing software & entered into "Contact Details" block.

This will go a long way to impress the candidates (– and recruiters) with the powerful logic of our parsing software.

We should not have the counter say:

because 99% (or more) of the job-advts uploaded will be thru RSS feeds (or Spiders to be developed in future) from various job portals. Therefore our counter will read:

Both Dish TV and Tatasky have tied up with some job-portals to deliver job-advts on "ACTIVE" channels. If we have to overtake, we must deliver JOB-ALERTS (not job-advts) & tie-up with BIG TV (Reliance Adag). Candidate will only need to select a Service Provider on our website. As simple as that!

Special note on "Search-Results" display of "Conventional Job-Search"

  1. We are downloading job advts from a no. of portals (RSS feed + page scraping/spidering).
  2. Currently (at any given time), we have over 2 lakh job-advts
  3. In "Customize-Resume", these will be thoroughly "cleaned-up" (Q-client of "X" etc) and a proper "database" will be created.
  4. This database will become "Searchable" thru "Conventional Job-Search" parameters.

(3) I suggest we do not spend time right now on downloading resumes from {Naukri}.

For the moment, let us concentrate on uploading as many Profiles/Images/Videos on as many sites as possible. Currently, about 30% of our traffic is ORGANIC i.e. people finding/clicking on Search-results in search engines ({Google Analytics}). Let us try {\&} increase this percentage.

We are all agreed that we have too many links on our homepage. So, a visitor gets lost! {A} web-visitor's "Span-of-attention" is very small. So, we run the risk that, upon arrival, he clicks {some 2/3 WRONG (i.e. not immediately useful) links} and QUITS! {The USEFUL links just don't get clicked!}

{In V 2.0, we will address this problem - but that is a few months ahead. But, on internet, "few months" is like a "few light-years"! Websites are proliferating at the rate of "Thousands/Day" and existing ones are "morphing" at the rate of "Millions/Day."}

We need to do Something NOW to attract visitors and get them to click the RIGHT links and spend more time. {With this in mind,}

Observation on Naukri (cont)

Could this (emphasis on Jobseekers), be the reason why, Naukri has managed to get millions of jobseekers to register?

Has Naukri, rightly "figured-out" that getting jobseekers to "register/submit Resume" is the "Starting Point"? - and, if they succeed in doing this, Employers will follow?

Could they have also figured-out - and once again, rightly - that different kinds of job-seekers have, different kinds of job-needs and therefore, providing a large no. of "WAYS IN WHICH TO DIRECTLY ZERO-IN ON THE DESIRED JOBS", (providing options), would attract more job-seekers?

We were focussed on "Simplifying the life of recruiters by making IndiaRecruiter, a Recruitment Process Platform" - whereas, Naukri focussed on "Simplifying the life of Jobseekers - by making it extremely EASY for them to zero-in on the right jobs fast."

Observation on Naukri (Cont)

Now that, thru Job-Aggregator, we are in a position to offer OVER 2 LAKH JOBS, (\sim probably more than any other website), then, should we seriously consider "copying" Naukri's strategy? of offering "umpteen options" to jobseekers to zero-in on their desired jobs fast?

In any case, we are parsing and Creating a Very detailed/broken-down database of all downloaded jobs.

And, we have planned to make ALL of these jobs "searchable" thru our "Conventional Job Search".

Except that

our "Conventional Job Search" is crammed with too many "Search Criteria"! - Whereas Naukri's Search-bar has only 4 criteria, viz:

  • Keywords
  • Exp
  • Location
  • Functional Area

I have taken same "Search-Criteria" as in our current "Conventional Job Search" - only rearranged in such a way that any one (and ONLY ONE), may be selected at a time, to display results.

Will this presentation of OPTIONS, make jobseeker's life easier/simpler? I don't know.

There will always be some jobseekers who wish to SIMULTANEOUSLY apply MULTIPLE Search criteria to drill-down to a very short SHORT-LIST.

Search-Engines too, return MILLIONS of pages, but no one has time/patience to go beyond 3rd page!

What may be ideal solution could be that a jobseeker can START with his ONE/TOPMOST criteria and then, be able to gradually narrow down the SEARCH-RESULTS by applying Successive FILTERS. I think we had this functionality but removed it. Was it, because it was not intuitive? - and ended-up being more confusing!

Pl. apply your mind.

This last one is equally important in order to attract jobseekers to submit their resumes.

Our Current version has following shortcomings:

Hardly anyone clicks on Sample Profile link (one amongst dozens on homepage) to get an idea about graphs/analytics etc.

There is no "interactivity" / "playing around" with Profiles shown.

With my proposal, we will overcome these shortcomings - and hopefully motivate jobseeker to Submit Resumes.

Enclosed find my preliminary thoughts on what each site will host.

Global Recruiter will host only the bare minimum/essential features needed for Corporates & Jobseekers.

In that way, it will be like most other job-portals, except that GR too will be able to generate graphical profiles.

With bare minimum "Submit Resume" data, it will offer just ONE function/skill profile (which candidate will need to select from a droplist).

As & when Candidate submits additional data in Submit Resume,

additional graphs/profiles will get generated.

During "Apply Online"/Resume Blast, profiles will get emailed to the extent generated.

Once this is implemented, we will work on Resume Parser (AumMine). Our goal would be to require jobseeker to

In my earlier note on this subject, a few days back, I had mentioned of Job-portals which show a message:

"The candidates who saw/ viewed this job-advt., also viewed following advts"

In "Resume Search-Text wise" we also have a Column reading NO. of times downloaded. Although, we do not have such against the job-advt. This was because Job-advts get automatically deleted after 30 days. But, even if we in V 2.0, we should provide such a column. This (mob psychology) is also the reason, we decided to have STATISTICS COUNTER wherever possible, of which, "No. of online users" on this page, would be the best, as also "NAMES of Corp. Subscribers currently logged-in."

We must fully exploit this "herd-mentality" amongst visitors.

This (overload of useless/irrelevant) Information also applies to Job-portals.

The no. of results/records, thrown up during a "Job-Search" or a "Resume Search" are just too many. People don't have time to go thru all the results in order to shortlist those few which are "relevant".

"Frequency-of-Usage" of SEARCH-PARAMETERS would be the simplest - and the crudest - way to anticipate a user's "Intentions"

"Raw-Score/Percentile Score" do lend some precision.

"Match-Index" would be still better ("Matching" found "resumes" against an Advt)

There is also one of my old notes which tells a HR Mgr:

  • Upload "Resume Rater" image with write-up on as many blogging sites as possible. Pl- ensure that www.IndiaRecruiter.net is mentioned prominently in the write-up. Best would be hyperlink. If that is not possible, see if it can be bold/italics etc.

I believe this is missing on some of the images which you have uploaded so far. Pl- check. Can these (write-ups) be edited?

  • I think www.thinkdigit.com allows upload of Videos. If so, pl. do.
  • What about uploading entire "Resume Rater" software tool on thinkdigit - Widgetgallery (Konfabulater)?
  • To start blasting new promo email to Candidates (203,458 job-advts). Best (most potential candidates for pushing email) are those 3 lakh whose resumes you have downloaded from Naukri/Monster over last 8/10 months

  • Authors can add their photo/brief biodata in, what is called, a "Resource box". I suppose we can add our homepage link, here. V. IMPORTANT
  • Articles can be 2500 words max.
  • Users/Visitors/Webmasters can download such "published" articles & re-use/re-print, by giving "credit" to the author.
  • I suppose Search engine spiders, visit & index such articles, providing "backlinks" to our website.
  • "ezines" are an excellent way to promote our website, because articles stay there for ever (whereas classified advts get deleted after a few days - sometimes also difficult & time-consuming to post/renew).

Search engines parse each webpage, separate Keywords - then index

(Two handwritten tables follow, illustrating a simple keyword-document index structure)

This database gets "accessed" when anyone types any keyword in search-bar. All documents where this keyword appears, gets displayed in search-results. ISYS also works like this.

The Internet told me to do it

Recommendation System (Recommending Jobs to Jobseekers and Resumes to Recruiters)

  • It is "human nature" to be guided by "Expert Recommendations" while taking any decision. Take a look at Investments - whether in property, shares, gold etc. Newspapers, magazines, TV, Internet are full of so-called "Experts" recommending what you should do. And such "recommendations" are eagerly tapped-up by the investing public.
  • See the above article. This trend is catching-up on the internet as well. I have seen job-portals, which say,

  • Underlying assumption is that "SIMILAR people have SIMILAR tastes (likes/dislikes etc."
  • In V 2.0 of IndiaRecruiter I propose that our "Recommendations" operate at the following Two levels:

AT INDIVIDUAL level

At this level, we will compile the “search-parameter-selection-history” of every (logged-in) user, whether a jobseeker or a recruiter.

What “search-parameters” did he select during his search? (of course, only if he clicked SUBMIT button after selecting).

store these & arrange each parameter in the descending order of the FREQUENCY with which, it was used by THAT user. (PERSONAL USAGE HISTORY).

Then, everytime he returns to the “search-page” (i.e. logs in), display the SEARCH PARAMETER DROP-LISTS in the descending-order of his own “personal usage.” so his “favourites” always show-up on the TOP of the drop-list. We might, if possible, show inside a bracket, the no. of times, he has selected that parameter in the past.

This fig. inside bracket, will assure him that we are not pulling a fast one on him! It only shows that “we care to remember”!

This system will apply to both jobseekers & recruiters.

AT “COLLECTIVE WISDOM” level

At this level, we want to “recommend” to the user, what SIMILAR people have been “doing”.

Let us, first take the case of Jobseekers.

What kind of jobseekers are SIMILAR (–to one another)?

These are Jobseekers, who are:

1 belong to SAME “function”.

2 have SAME “raw score”

3 have SAME “desig. level”

4 have SAME “Edu level” (or even SAME degree/diploma)

5 belong to SAME “Industry”

6 draw SAME “salary”

7 are of SAME “Age” etc. etc.

Till we have LAKHS of resumes in our database, such FINE BREAK-UP, would be meaningless.

Hence, to begin with, we will take, only the first two “attributes” VIZ:

and within that function

SAME “RAW SCORE”

Each CELL will store “Job-Adves Viewed History” of all the candidates within each CELL – arranged in descending order of “No. of times that Adve was Viewed”

So, the most frequently “Viewed” (Job-adve) by SIMILAR co-professionals will show-up at the TOP and the least frequently Viewed will be at the BOTTOM.

NOW we are ready to tell that user:

“Here is a list of Job-Adves which were most frequently Viewed by your co-professionals”

There is no need to tell the user, what is our definition of his “co-professionals”.

If he opens/views, we add that “instance” to our table. Of course, this “Recommended Adve. Display Table” will be below the normal display table of Job-Adves which meet his current Search-criteria. And, if he opens/views any of those job-adves, those too, must get added to the CUMULATIVE SEARCH HISTORY – (CELL WISE) – SIMILAR CANDIDATES.

This (above) logic can be extended to Recruiters conducting Resume Search at INDIVIDUAL LEVEL by compiling his own “search criteria History”.

But, at COLLECTIVE – LEVEL, how do we compare SIMILAR Recruiters?

There is nothing like “same function” & “same score”?

What, if anything, is COMMON between any two recruiters – so that we may treat them as SIMILAR?

As of now, I find that “INDUSTRY” is the only common thread between recruiters – and we are capturing this info. in registration form.

But, when 2 recruiters belonging to SAME industry, log-in to conduct resume-searches, they could well be conducting searches for altogether “different” types of resumes

eg: one is searching for “SALES” candidate and other is “ “ “R&D” candidate.

So, we will need to compile “FUNCTION-WISE” Resume Search History of all recruiters belonging to SAME INDUSTRY. Once, such a search (say for “SALES” function) returned a table containing 49 resumes, then

WHICH resumes did that recruiter open & view?

eg: All recruiters from AUTOMOTIVE Industry, while conducting Resume search for function SALES, opened & viewed following resumes

we have very poor response to our promo email campaign. I suspect, most of our emails get treated as SPAM and get filtered and/or deleted.

In long-term, I feel, we may need to switchover to promo FAX campaign. Since faxes cannot be detected by Anti-spam Software - and get deleted - these will get "printed" on the recipient's fax-machines, without hindrance!

Once printed, somebody is bound to read!
