COMPANY INFORMATION

CLIENT DATABASE

This is not our main activity. If CMIE/DART could do a good specialized job, it should be left to them to build- up such a database and we should be happy using it.

However from what little I know about their plans as of today their databases are geared for the

·         Share Brokers

·         Equity Research Guys

·         Financial Analysts

·         Investing Public

·         Mutual Funds etc

So the emphasis is on FINANCE (PBT/PAT/EPS/Net worth etc etc)

Whereas,

We need a database about clients which talks about their

·         Plant Locations

·         Org Structure

·         Comp Structure

·         Product Range

·         JV/Collaborations

·         New Products /Projects

·         Market shows

·         Investments etc etc.

This is the kind of company data which will.

 1.       Guide us as to which company we should send whose biodata (unsolicited) essentially matching a candidates background /experience etc. to what we assume is /will be a given company’s areas of interests.

2.       Enable us to thoroughly brief( even coach) a candidate before he appears for an interview with a given company.

3.       Enable us to “entice” a candidate in accepting an offer from that company/considering to join that company.

These are our objectives in building up a client company database. So our information needs about all companies are different.

(if we someday 10 years later can combine our Database on companies with CMIE/DART database, we could get into the MATCH MAKING BUSINESS at company to company level i.e helping . Oversease companies fine a suitable Indian Partner Company for technical collaboration/JV.)

however for the time being let us confine ourselves to above mentioned objectives 1st/2nd/ 3rd .

Our sources for building up such databases could be

·         Newspapers

·         magazines

·         Chamber of Commerce directories

·         eco time

·         kothari's directories

·         cmie reports directories

·         new issue prospectus

·         annual reports etc etc

Care must be taken not to duplicate work done by CMIE/DART.

This will be

·         Very wastefull

·         very expensive

·         very obsolete

idea is also not to key in any information. This too will be very time consuming and expensive

we have 2 choices.

1.       Scan all information and store it electronically with appropriate indexing then destroy original

2.       create 2000 physical files m east have 2000 boxes covering 1000 square feet office space one box/ company

we have a 3rd limited option as far as magazines business India/business world /Business Today /technocrat /fortune India /Dalal Street Journal /investment week etc

This option is,

1.       Find these magazines serially/chronologically in separate cabinet shelves

2.       before filing Key-in company wise information as follows

information about(company) name

publication name of magazine

issue date

page number

company officers whose names /designation appear in the article

name

designations

1

Thereafter, anytime, you want to know all about any given company, you just punch in the company name and electronic filing system will show on the screen.

Company name:

Magazine/publication

issue date

page

executives mentioned

business India

business world

You give this print out to a peon who will pull out all the relevant magazines/, issues Xerox all the relevant pages, put it in a plastic folder and give it to you, and return the magazines to the respective racks/shelves.

you can then give this folder along with the printout to candidate for his study before appearing for an interview or you may study the folder yourself for doing company research . once you know what new products /new projects a companies planning you could create a fictitious exec search request run the search program and come up with a list of suitable candidates.

OR

you could send this research folder to that company itself and ask this folder contains a research on your company would you like to have copies of similar research done by us on your competitors?

Up price is ₹500 per company.

That only 5 companies to respond positively each month and each asking folders on 5 competitors each that makes 25 folders multiply 500 is equal to ₹1,25,000

note in big amount but perhaps enough to justify one D/E operator with his supporting overheads

office o/h expenses will be normally 5 times the direct salary of a person. you may just break even.

but the fallout would be companies would come to know about us we could offer a placement service to carry out comprehensive project recruitment from Pune to president in a time bound manner.

but this manner of electronically filing/indexing information lends itself well only 2 magazines which can be subsequently stored neatly retrieved quickly returned to their shelf easily.

52 issues (weekly) by 12 shelf space so and 48 long shelf, we could store 4 years of each publication .

In 1 4 wide godrej almirah cabinet we could store about 6 to 8 different publications for a period of 4 years

Good enough since any information older than 4 years is bound to get obsolete or useless. So every year we can dispose of issues which are 4 years old and also delete from the electronic memory. For time being this seems better alternative then scanning
