COMPARISON SHOPPING TARIFF CHART DISPLAY

Date: 23-06-04

TARIFFF

To avail of JAM, a subscriber will need to pay, a combination of the following:

#1 Monthly Subscription

  • most likely a fixed amount

#2 Incoming Job-Alert SMS (5/10 per day)

  • Could be Re. 0.50 to Re. 1.0 per SMS or the mobile service operator may decide to send these FREE

#3 Outgoing "Apply online" SMS (Resume forwarding Service)

  • This is where, both MSP and we make our money
  • I am sure, all MSPs will charge #3. Actual "per click" amounts will vary from MSP to MSP.

As far as #1 & #2 are concerned, some MSP may charge #1 but not #2 and some other MSP may charge #2 but not #1.

You are also aware that the MSPs offer a wide variety of "Tariff Plans" (presumably to thoroughly confuse the subscribers!). They also keep changing these plans.

They (MSP) may also do this (frequent changes) in case of JAM.

Their main objective is that the subscribers, are not in a position to "compare" tariff plans of different MSPs and then figure-out, which plan is the "Cheapest". By making their "pricing" NON-COMPARABLE, MSPs hope that the subscribers will not abandon them (Chum) and migrate to a Competitor.

In case of JAM, the question of "distance" does not come into picture

e.g.:

  • 0-200 km
  • 201-500 km
  • etc.

But it is "conceivable" that the MSPs may demand from their subscribers, a 10%-20% "PREMIUM" for delivering JAM at say 8 AM & 8 PM (Subscriber PRIME TIME, when he is free!).

In course of time, we would certainly co-operate with MSPs to provide maxm CONVENIENCE to their subscribers, but not now!

For the moment, we want to keep things SIMPLE for our software and for our webmaster.

By keeping things SIMPLE (EASY-TO-PROGRAM), we would be able to keep a continuous track of

what kind of "monies" are MSPs earning thru JAM (on daily & cumulative basis)

what kind of "monies" are WE earning (from each MSP and of course Combinedly.) also on daily & cumulative basis.

So, we must pressurise the MSPs to keep fewer "variables" and keep these as simple/straightforward as possible - and keep these CONSTANT over as long a period of time, as possible.

On the other hand, our Software must be made capable of accommodating any "changes" in these "variables" at short notice.

This "variable" must also include, our "share" of the MSPs "revenue" on each transaction. This could be a

  • percentage (%) of the revenue earned by MSP
  • a lump sum "amount/transaction" (e.g. Rs. 0.50/Rs. 1.00/Rs. 2.00 etc)
  • (e.g. Rs. 10/= per month - in case of Monthly subscription).

I presume

  • each MSP has its own website and
  • on this website, they would display their "Tariff-chart/Tariff-Plan" for JAM.

If any particular MSP has any reservation/reluctance to display JAM TARIFF on its own corporate website, then we should convince him that it is in his own interest to do so!

Would you want to go into a hotel & order any food, if the MENU does not display the prices?

Unlikely.

The European hotels & restaurants, go to the other extreme and, along with the Menu, also display the prices in the roadside windows!

Their logic is simple.

If the Customer knows the "price" of each item, even before he enters the restaurant, there is a better chance (a higher probability) that he would feel inclined to walk in and order a couple of items!

Of course, if your prices are too high, the customer may walk-in the next restaurant! But, it can also happen, the other way around too!

But a "Comparison-shopping" is what the internet customers are demanding and that is what we should provide.

My Suggestion is as follows:

REGISTRATION

Clicking on this link, will take the subscriber (who wants to "register") to the relevant TARIFF PAGE of his service provider's website where he can see what he will have to pay for JAM.

So, even BEFORE registering (clicking \fbox{SUBMIT}), he already KNOWS, what he would have to pay for JAM.

If JAM has to take-off (like a rocket), then, I think, this transparency is a must.

Why make a subscriber,

first register, without knowing the "price/cost" implications on his monthly cash-outflow then get an SMS/email from the MSP, intimating the "charges" that he would pay, then

decide that he cannot afford these charges and just keep quiet!

Neither the MSP, nor WE, would be any wiser! We may even follow-up with him by email/sms - which would be a wasted effort. He may even get irritated with such follow-up.

And who has any care, time to follow-up and figure-out, why he decided not to join JAM?

At least, we don't have any resources, for such follow-up!

As far as I am concerned, the only question is

Do we make it possible for a BPL subscriber to get to see/view BPL's JAM tariff? (by taking him to BPL's website)

OR

Do we make it possible for him to see tariffs of ALL MSPs? at one go, in a neatly tabulated, COMPARATIVE CHART?

If we do not show him a neatly tabulated COMPARATIVE CHART, he could, of course, compile one himself by clicking on all tariff links, one-by-one, and noting down on a piece of paper!

What do we gain except making subscriber's life miserable? If he has made up his mind, he will somehow, get these info somehow or other, after spending a lot of time! and Curse us for making him do this "donkey-work"!

On the other hand, if we offer him a ready-made, Comparative Chart, he would "respect" us for simplifying his life and enabling to take a quick & considered, decision!

As far as we are concerned, what does it matter if someone is receiving JAM as a subscriber of BPL or as a subscriber of TATA?

We are not bothered if a BPL fellow migrates to TATA or vice-versa!

All that we are interested is that he "subscribes" one way or other! If he wants to migrate to some service-provider who charges "Lower Tariff" for JAM, it is OK with us!

What is really important for us is that in absence of any info/data re: the JAM Tariffs of his own service-provider, he decides "NOT TO SUBSCRIBE" - at all!

That would be BAD!

Inter-MSP "Chum" is not our concern. It is something for an MSP to worry!

What we are interested in is increasing the overall size of this circle (Total JAM subscriber-base).

But if the \substack{\text{big} text{Circle}} remains same size, but individual, \substack{\text{Inner,} text{Smaller}} Circles, keep changing their sizes (\text{grow bigger or smaller}), that does not bother us - nor help us!

And, I feel, the only way to get more & more mobile-phone subscribers to opt for JAM, is to show them COMPARATIVE-TARIFF CHART right at the outset.

PERIODIC FEEDBACK E MAILS

Feedback - cum - Resume Form

(Ref: My note dt. 07-06-04)

In this note, I had attached the form, one section of which, is

TENTATIVE PROGRESSIVE FEEDBACK.

I would like to modify this section as follows:

TENTATIVE PROGRESSIVE FEEDBACK

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for sending your resume thru JobAlert Mobile (JAM) service of https://www.google.com/search?q=World-Wide-Jobs.com, for consideration against our vacancy.

As far as your resume is concerned, we have,

Yet to evaluate it in depth

Kept it on hold

Added to our database

As and when required, we will give you further feedback and/or contact you on our own. We would appreciate, if you do not follow up. With regards

Name of Company

PS.

Added

In the meantime, you may want to visit our corporate website [blank box] and study it thoroughly to acquaint yourself with our products/services/joint-ventures/collaborators/financials/new project plans [blank box]

If you are keen on a position with us, we expect you to be able to tell us what you know about us, if and when called for an interview.

Added

Obviously, the new "Added" portion should be displayed (both to the HR manager & the candidate concerned) ONLY in those cases where, we already know the URL of that Company's website. Otherwise, this portion should remain blank.

And, we should not expect the HR manager to manually "Type/enter" his Company website URL in the box provided [blank box].

It should get filled-up, automatically.

HOW WOULD THIS FEATURE HELP?

TO HR/Recruitment Managers

  • If he does not know himself that his Company has a website, he would visit & find out more about his own company!
  • He may even find that, on his Co. website, there is no section for "Careers/HR Policy/Recruitment Policy" etc etc. He may introduce these.

He will study everything about his Company (from the website), so that it does not appear during the Interview that the Candidate seems to know much more about the Company than himself!

TO Candidate

  • In the message, there is a tantalizing hint that he may be called for an interview. This would prompt him to visit the website and learn everything he can, about the Company.
  • In absence of this paragraph - and the mention of Co. website URL - the candidate may not ever come to know that the Company has a website from where he can learn a lot.

TO WWJ/JAM.

Because of this new/added paragraph, I feel that many HR/Recruitment managers would feel like clicking on one of the 3 feedback links.

The key phrase in the last

Sentence is

".... We expect you......"

Of course, all textbooks on "How to appear for an interview? / How to prepare for an interview? / How to project yourself in an interview?" etc etc., all say the same thing, viz:

before you appear for an interview, study the company thoroughly,

But,

How many candidates ever bother to read those text-books & follow?

How-and-where can Candidates get info about prospective employers?

HR/Recruitment managers have not learnt to mention/incorporate this sentence (We expect you ----), in their INTERVIEW-CALL LETTERS! - which was, so far (until JAM Feedback form arrived on the scene!) their only chance to ADVISE the candidate, that he should come prepared!

NOW,

the "JAM Feedback Form" gives this opportunity to Recruitment managers, to ADVISE the Candidates, that it is in

his own interest to come prepared. (Who does not like to handout free advice?). And this sentence, stands translated as follows in Recruitment Manager's mind,

"Well, you Mr. Candidate, have been warned. Now, if you don't come prepared, it is your funeral!"

And, I feel no recruitment manager would want to let go of this "opportunity" - an opportunity to appear "Holier than Thou"!

  • an opportunity to place himself on a higher pedestal - as compared to the candidate (advisory capacity).
  • an opportunity to project to the Candidate, how "knowledgeable" he is about his own company!

Whatever his motivation, as long as we can get the recruitment manager to click on one of the links, our purpose is served.

Viz:

Each & every JAM applicant should get a feedback (any feedback, everytime he clicks "Apply Online".

Because, this would be an experience that he has never experienced before!

If JAM succeeds in delivering to a candidate, a feedback, everytime he clicks "Apply Online" that would be nothing short of Magic! - something that far exceeds his wildest expectation.

And that would start (put into motion), a word-of-mouth, Viral marketing. Then JAM would "market" itself!

Reena is trying to get the CD [or book] from MJ Corpol (Chennai), containing

15000 Corporate URL's.

So, it is a question of incorporating this database in WWJ and writing appropriate software - which I am sure, you can do.

To repeat,

Amongst all the possible "SUCCESS FACTORS" of WWJ/JAM, getting a feedback from advertisers, is the most crucial.

That is where WWJ/JAM would differentiate itself from the jobsites.

Let us do.

PS: We have decided that we will email to the candidate, full text of each job-advt which he clicks "Apply Online". How about attaching Company's website URL link, with such email?

17/06/04

Abhi 07-06-04

Feedback - cum - Resume

Yesterday I spoke to you about this.

We are agreed that corporate feedback will play a crucial role in ramping-up of JAM

Question is, how to get the advertisers to take the trouble to click on one of the feedback links?

Our "pep-talk" about "enhancing your corporate image amongst jobseekers" may work with some HR managers - but may not be with ALL!

So we need to provide some "Quid pro quo" to those reluctant/lazy ones. We need to give them some "incentive" to click.

This can be done by redesign of our Feedback - cum - Resume form and writing some additional lines of code

see enclosed, redesigned form.

You will notice that

I have considerably "elaborated" our note/instruction to advertisers.

stressed the "FREE" aspect of our service

introduced a condition that Only those advertisers, who take the trouble to click on one of the feedback links, will get to see/view

  • Functional Profile
  • Keywords

If not for anything else, just out of Curiosity (as to what do those blank boxes might contain), I expect that an HR manager will click on one of the feedback links!

And the moment he does, right before his eyes, those blank boxes (Functional Profile/Keywords), get filled-up with "values"!

Almost like magic!

Almost like an online "game"!

Once an HR manager has "experienced" this - and, hopefully, appreciated what he has just discovered, it is very likely that, he would like to "repeat" that experience, again & again.

The CHILD hiding inside HR mgr. takes over!

Even if he does not understand "HOW" this (filling up of boxes) happens, he will be only amazed by "WHAT" happens!

And he would want to see, whether this happens in every resume, again & again, without fail!

I hope, our little trick "mesmerizes" him and develops in him, an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

And if it does (-and I think, it will), then, next, it is the turn of the job-seeker to develop an OCD!

When he discovers that applying thru JAM, produces a "feedback" everytime he clicks "apply Online", he wants to click, again & again - just to know what kind of (Encouraging?) feedback he might get!

So, hopefully, we might succeed in setting into motion - a VIRTUOUS circle! - a rotating wheel that picks up speed as it rotates.

Let us ensure that this happens.

Remember my note to you,

MAKE LUCK!

Corporate Feedback-cum-Resume Forwarding Message (Step # 10/JAM Communication Flow-chart)

Enclosed find a draft of Combination-form, which Supercedes earlier form sent to you.

You will notice following:-

I have covered all the details (about the candidate) which you had incorporated in the draft shown to me yesterday

To your draft, I have added

  • Function Profile Tabulation
  • Short list of Keywords (Comma Separated)

Combined Feedback Section.

I feel that, even if a recruiter does not find time to go thru detailed text resume, with the help/addition of "Function Profiles" and "Keywords", he has now more than enough data to decide whether

  • Candidate is interesting
  • Resume (details) is worth reading
  • Genuine feedback (of course TENTATIVE) can be sent.

Feedback

I have purposely called it "TENTATIVE" to overcome the "resistance/reluctance" of an HR manager - who, at this stage, may not want to "COMMIT" himself to the candidate! - One way or other !!

By adding "you need not follow-up. As & When required, we will contact you", I am further inducing the HR mgr. to use the Feedback Form. NOW, with one stone, they are able to kill two birds!

Objective # 1

Impress the jobseekers that they are a "responsive" company. Let this "fact" circulate amongst millions of jobseekers so that a positive Corporate Image gets built-up.

Objective # 2

Put off the candidate! Get him off your back. Ensure he does not keep phoning you/emailing you, while giving him an impression that you have gone thru his resume - or at least glanced at it!

We are managing to meet this objective by some "Vague" responses! No one knows what exactly the HR manager "means"! But a feedback, nevertheless!!

To rapidly build-up reputation of JAM service amongst jobseekers as the only-service which manages to get a feedback everytime you apply - the FEEDBACK part is CRUCIAL.

If, somehow, Corporate HR Managers, fall for our "Feedback Trick" and start using it, then JAM would take-off like a rocket!!

Jobseekers would be simply "DELIGHTED" because this (feedback) is far above their highest "Expectations"! They have never come across anything like this!

Of course, as of now, we have nothing, by way of an "Incentive" which we can offer to the HR managers to "induce" them to use the feedback form - except that it is very simple and takes a second.

But, in course of time, we will think up of some "free/analytical data" which we can make available to HR managers - if they give regular feedback to candidates.
