Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

With regards,

Usage of Smart Phones in India

Enclosed find:

  • Relevant newspaper cutting
  • Summarized findings tabulation

This has relevance to our efforts to develop an Android Widget
(should we call it a “Tool”?) for JOBS ALERTS.

By now, you must have received my earlier handwritten note, enclosing UI for 2 pages on CustomizeResume.

Is that a feasible / correct approach?
By this, I mean:

  • Can people download tool from our site and then install on their smart phones?
    I don’t know technicalities involved.

I suppose, most users may prefer to go to the ANDROID MARKETPLACE from their smartphones and download JOBS APP directly.

Then, there are many other websites offering ANDROID-based apps.

We should upload “JOBS APP” on these websites as well, so people have a wide option from where to download.

Users of Android phones are always searching such websites for “What is New”.

However,

If downloading App from CustomizeResume on their PC and then installing on their smart phones (by SYNCING) is NOT feasible, then,

We may modify my write-ups (for 2 pages) and instead of Download button,

Provide a few links from where they can download.

But our page write-ups must remain in modified form.

Will JOBS APP work on any touchscreen device, like TABLETS?

Regards,
H. Parekh

Smartphones Used More for ‘Entertainment’

Users spend 72% of their time on gaming and internet-related activities: Survey.

An average Indian smartphone user spends about three hours a day on entertainment and internet activities but little time on voice calls and text messaging.

According to Nielsen Informate Mobile Intelligence, smartphone users spend 68% of their time on entertainment apps.

The remaining 28% of the time is used for voice calls and text messaging.

Younger users (15–24 yrs) spend more time on chat, social networking and internet browsing.

The survey also indicates that Android users download significantly more apps per month compared to other platforms.

🔑 Why This Document Is Important (Contextual Insight)

Hemen, this 2011 note shows that you were already:

  • Thinking mobile-first before it was mainstream
  • Correctly identifying app-store distribution vs website download friction
  • Designing Jobs Alerts as a mobile utility, not a portal feature
  • Using data-backed justification (Nielsen + ET)
  • Anticipating tablet compatibility early

This directly connects to:

  • OnlineJobsFair
  • ResumesExchange
  • MatchMaker
  • Today’s AI-driven job alerts & mobile agents
