(Sent)Mr. Milind DalalDGM - Head, Value Added ServicesBharti Airtel LimitedMumbaiDear Mr. Dalal,
JAM [Job Alert Module]
This refers to our discussions yesterday. I now await your specifications for the service/content to be delivered, which you have in mind. This will enable me to work out:
▷ feasibility▷ time-frameAt this stage I have the following comments:
▷ If the job-alert SMS are not relevant, then the subscriber will be put-off. That may affect the Airtel brand (negative word-of-mouth).
▷ For the job-alerts to be relevant, job-adverts
note down the email ID (of the job-advertiser company), visible on his mobile screen, then close his mobile, find a computer/internet connection, log into World Wide Jobs,
➝ enter ➝ enter email ID into Outlook Express, paste his resume and then click “SEND”.
A jobseeker expects to use his mobile instrument as an “online transaction tool” (and less as an information locating device) and he expects to be able to complete this transaction, even when he is sitting in front of his boss or travelling in a train!
On top of it, If he is a software engineer, he wants to be able to apply immediately against a Microsoft job in
then we run the risk of irrelevant job-alerts getting pushed! This must be avoided at all cost.
▷ If — and when — a jobseeker does receive a perfectly matched / interesting job-alert, he wants to be able to “Apply Online” i.e. apply immediately from his mobile.
He cannot wait for PHASE 2 of our application/service to be launched “later”!
He knows that if he does not / cannot “apply” today, that job will get filled by tomorrow! You are aware that HR managers are under tremendous pressure to fill-up those vacancies within 24 hours of posting job-adverts on Monster / Naukri / Timesjobs!
Nor can we expect a jobseeker to
need to be matched perfectly with the job-preferences specified by the jobseeker. This is the reason why, on World-Wide-Jobs.com, at
▷ Register page, we insist that the jobseekers spell-out their job-preferences in terms of:
-
cities / posting locations (14 major cities)
-
functions (29 major functional areas)
-
designations / positions (free text)
-
experience (Min. years) ( ” ” )
-
keywords ( ” ” )
-
no. of alerts / day
It is obvious that all these details / options cannot be accommodated on the small screen of a mobile. And a mobile’s keypad is not designed for extensive typing.
If we compromise in the job-preference details to be acquired from the jobseeker,
California! As of now, we are not stripping job-adverts from Monster USA or CareerBuilder etc. but there is no technical difficulty in doing so.
Of course, in the job-alert SMS, we can display the “Job ID” and ask the candidate to enter that Job ID in World-Wide-Jobs,
See the full job-advert and then “Apply Online”. This can be done easily.
If there are any questions, please feel free to phone (M) 98, 67.55, 08.08.
In the meantime, I wonder if you can spare a few minutes to look at Profiles
With regards,
Hemen Parekh
