SAMPLE JOB ADVTS

Abhi

SAMPLE JOBADVS 20-09-04

Sometime back, I mentioned that WWJ has very little to offer to a job-seeker by way of "Experience."

On all other job-sites, the moment he enters "job-search criteria" and clicks, he is able to SEE/EXPERIENCE, dozens or hundreds of job-advts.

So, he "Expects" a similar experience on WWJ too.

But WWJ, kind of leaves him "high & dry", since we do not show/display any job-advts!

When a person's (legitimate) expectations are not met, he feels very frustrated-very cheated! He feels, he has been taken for a ride!

The more I think about this, the more I am convinced that, genuine job-seekers may be keeping away from WWJ because of this feeling of NON-FULFILLMENT.

One way to overcome this feeling of bewilderment (What next?), is to introduce a page as attached.

Such an arrangement would have following advantages:

Now he can see (experience), the actual job-advts that he could expect to receive - if he becomes a JAM subscriber. So here is VISUAL proof - not a mere "CLAIM"!

This is further reinforced by display of "Job Alert SMS" right below - corresponding to that job-advt.

We should seriously explore the possibility of highlighting (in different colour), within the body of the advt; those words, which he has picked/selected in his "job-preference".

So he is able to see our "match-making" logic in a transparent manner. Here is the proof that matchmaker has done a good job in picking that job-advt.

If he is not happy with the job-advts displayed, he will go back & try another combination of keywords (in job-preference form) - and then immediately SEE another set of job-advts.

Now, he is able to immediately see, how a particular keyword/s, affects the selection of advts. So this "instant-effect" induces him to experiment again & again, till he reaches

the "optimum" mix of keywords. From our point of view, HIS "trial & error" experimentation, has great value. This enables matchmaker to deliver "relevant" jobs - which is our USP.

The jobseeker - thru his frequent "experi-mentation", helps US achieve OUR USP!!

He spends his time/effort to ensure that he gets most relevant job-alerts. We too benefit.

If we store all the keywords that he experimented with before zeroing-in / finalizing on the final set, then, someday, we may even be able to develop an "EXPERT SYSTEM", which would be able to even suggest/recommend the keywords that any jobseeker should select, based on his resume (the keywords contained in his resume).

Storing all earlier keywords in the "sequence" in which they were picked/ discarded/replaced, will tell our Expert System, how human brain works!

Thru this page (Sample Job Advts), we are adding "Interactivity". This element is very important - because this is what he is used-to, on all job-sites.

We just cannot say/imply that

because we are NOT a jobsite, therefore we don't offer "Interactivity"! That would be arrogant.

Whether it is WWJ or any other site, a visitor expects Interactivity. No one wants to visit a "BROCHURE" website!

Being able to view a job-advt and its corresponding SMS alert simultaneously has another advantage viz:

MANAGING CLIENT EXPECTATIONS.

Now we are CONDITIONING him, by saying, "Look, we have restriction of 160 characters so, what you will get to see on your mobile, will be the SMS shown below. NO more. But rest assured, this SMS is backed by a true, blue-blooded, detailed job-advt, as you can see."

Of course, SAMPLE JOB ADVT. page will require an Online database of maybe 10K job-advts, all the time, besides Matchmaker.

Next > button will reveal the next "matched" job-advt.

Please give this proposal a serious thought, as soon as you are free from TATA trials.

SAMPLE JOB-ADVTS.

Dear

Thank you for indicating your job-preferences which are:

City

Industry

Using these, our Matchmaker software has picked a few job-advts as shown below. Are these relevant to your needs? If not, modify/edit your job-preference-then once again check the SAMPLE JOB-ADVTS. Although you may never achieve 100% relevance, repeating this process 2/3 times should yield an optimum mix of job-advts.

Creating a "buzz".

Ref = My yesterday's note re: Happy Birthday.

Some more points:

Maybe (loud thinking) we ought to have a provision where the SENDER can enter his/her own birthdate in "My Detail" block as follows:

MY DETAILS

Name : [Line]

Birth Date:   DD   MM   YY

Email : [Line]

Mobile No: [Line] [Submit Button]

The moment he clicks submit, the names of celebrities (for his own birthdate) will pop-up in a window.

This is the "proof" that the software works! Only if the sender gets convinced that the software works, would he feel like entering names of his friends.

PROVISION for "ADD" additional celebrity details

We would need to provide

this in TWO (2) parts

  • a "PRIVATE" list "box"
    • This is where the "Sender" or the "Recepient" could add names/ data, which belong to friends/relatives/ sweethearts etc., which they do NOT wish to share with general public. They want these to be their own personal/ private "SECRET"! This is a very common "cliques/sub-groups" amongst collegians.

Hence, we need to assure the sender (and/or recepient) that any names/details added into this PRIVATE Box, will NOT be shared with anyone else and that we will NOT add these names to COMMON/PUBLIC database.

  • a "COMMON/PUBLIC" List-Box
    • This is a box in which, sender/Recepient could add data/names of PUBLIC celebrities (eg. film-stars/ sports champs/Models etc), which entire world knows. WWJ would be free to add these into our COMMON/PUBLIC database (Birth-date wise), so that this database keeps growing thru contributions of all people using this feature. Everybody benefits by everybody's contribution.

Recognition

Why would/should any Sender/Recepient take the trouble to "contribute" new names/data to the "PUBLIC" box? The "free-riders" would want to enjoy the benefit (of this service) without having to contribute anything!12

And we can neither have any RULE which says34

"you can use this s5ervice - only if you add 5 new names/data to the PUBLIC box".6

To bypass such a ru7le, people may enter "Junk" data! - and we have no one to monitor/validate any data entered by anyone in the PUBLIC box.

So Obviously, such a negative incentive will not work.

But what might work is a positive incentive. We may be able to motivate people (to add new data to PUBLIC box), if we give them credit for their contribution.

eg. PUBLIC DATABASE

Celebrity

Birthdate

Contributed By

Incidentally, as far as PUBLIC box is concerned, we cannot have a field for "E-mail ID"! (as shown in my yesterday's note).

It would be virtually impossible for anyone to get hold of "private" email IDs of

  • Shah Rukh Khan
  • Ratan Tata
  • Sachin Tendulkar etc. etc. !

And, in any case, they are unlikely to be looking for jobs, so we have no use for their email IDs!

"FREE" service

Somewhere, we must mention that this (Happy BirthDay) service is FREE.

Creating a buzz

Creating "smart-mobs"

Creating online "communities"

If WWJ/JAM has to succeed - really take-off in a big way - we must succeed in generating a "buzz" (around WWJ), especially amongst young generation (Age 16-25).

We must get them to,

make them visit WWJ

Use WWJ Get (illegible word, possibly 'them')

talk to friends about WWJ (on mobile)

get them to give us email IDs of friends

get them to use PULL SMS / PUSH SMS services from WWJ

They won't do any of the above, unless they feel, it is FUN - and then want to share this FUN with their friends.

Most of them are not looking for a job and are not interested in job-alerts.

But someday, they will. We don't have to tell them that!

In the meantime, how do we make them visit WWJ? - and get some FUN?

As follows:

Dear Young Friend:

Amaze your friends with your knowledge.

Tell them the names of Celebrities who share their birth-date - besides wishing your friends a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

All you do is to fill-up the form below. We will do the rest (i.e. automatically sending out birthday greetings to those friends whose email IDs you enter below - along with the names of celebrities born on same day as your friend).

Of course, we will mark to you, a copy of each HAPPY BIRTHDAY email that we send out on your behalf - so you can also call-up your friend. What is more, you can \boxed{ADD} to the list prepared by us, details of any other celebrity - or even common-friend - that you may remember.

Have fun.

Hey, WHERE/WHEN is the party?

Abhi

The following have to be important features of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

It has to be FUN/MOD

Sender should be able to

  • Edit the "message"

(every relationship between any 2 persons, is UNIQUE and therefore Sender wants his/her own unique message - in own unique style/language to go to other person).

Again, a person certainly does not want the \text{SAME} message to go out year-after-year! Instead of \text{FUN}, it will become \text{BORING}!

Sender would also like to \text{VARY} the message from person-to-person.

  • \boxed{\text{Add}} names/details of other celebrities born on same date, to the list.

I have a feeling that youngsters would want to "Show-Off" their knowledge (of film stars/models/other celebrities etc) to their friends, in order to "impress" them.

\frac{6}{7}

we have to turn this "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" feature into some kind of an "EGO TRIP"!

Similarly, even the \boxed{\text{Recepient}} should also be able to \boxed{\text{ADD}} details of celebrities (or even common friends) born on same day - and then bounce back the email to the "\text{SENDER}".

Of course, "Recepient" also wants to show off his/her CURRENT/UP-TO-DATE knowledge!

In this process (back & forth bouncing), we want to \text{capture} as many \text{NEW} names & email IDs as we can! That, really, is our goal! For this reason, we \text{MUST} automatically receive a copy of each \text{GREETING} that gets bounced back with addition of new names! And we should automatically \text{UPDATE} our database, so that the \text{list of DATE-WISE} celebrities, keeps growing for ever, without any effort on our part!

So, Users \text{Create} their database and they also \text{Consume/Use} their database! Everybody contributes his/her own knowledge, whereby, everybody \text{benefits/gains}.

This feature will build powerful community.

\checkmark \checkmark  Job Alerts on WWJ

Effects of "Quality" (Relevance)

\text{Vs.}

Effects of "Quantity" (sheer numbers)

There is no denying the fact that to an individual jobseeker (who registers), quality/relevance of job-alerts is quite important. For him, it is this quality/relevance, which would \text{differentiate JAM} from conducting dozens of jobsearches on jobsites - which throw up hundreds of irrelevant job-advts on his screen.

But that is provided he "registers"!

But how do we get him to "register" in the first place?

How do we get thousands to "register" in the first place?

That is where the \text{QUANTITY (NO)} of job-alerts, comes into picture.

Before a person registers, the first thought that crosses his mind is, "Will I get \text{ANY} job-alerts at all? How do I know? What is the guarantee?"1

So far, we have nothing on our website, that would remove this "doubt" from the mind of a potential jobseeker!2

Remember, what is his experience so far?3

He goes to any jobsite, enters4

his "search-criteria" and clicks "SEARCH", and \text{Voila}!

He sees, dozens of job-advts in front of his eyes within seconds - (relevant or otherwise!)

But here is an undeniable "proof" of the site's ability to throw-up/deliver jobs! He is convinced.

Jobsites do \text{NOT} have to bend backwards to prove this point.

But, on WWJ, there is no jobsearch - there is no way for him to "know" that there are any jobs at all and that, there will be any job-alerts at all!

It is, as if, WWJ is telling him, "You have got to believe me

because \text{I AM SAYING SO}! When I say, you will get job-alerts, can't you trust me?"

This is in sharp contrast to what he is used to "hear" from other jobsites, which proclaim from roof-top, "Come One! Come All!

Jobsearch is free.

We have millions of jobs.

Test & find out yourself - in a second.

And to top it all, we charge you \text{nothing} to "\text{apply Online}."

This (\text{Competition}) means, we will need to \text{Convince} potential \text{JAM members}, that, when they register, they \text{WILL / SHALL} get many job alerts.

And I feel the only way to convince them is to host a page like enclosed. Each frame will change once in 10 seconds – enough for him to read the SMS and the **fig.**s.

Obviously, we will show/display only those jobs where both nos are respectable.

And these alerts need not be yesterday's only. Initially, these could cover last 10/15 days (if we do not have enough showing big nos). When we have plenty, we can reduce to yesterday's alerts only.

And, to begin with, you may even enter fictitious/cooked-up figs! Remember that what we are attempting

is to create, A SELF-FULFILLING PROPHESY!

Once jobseekers see such respectable/large nos and get impressed, they will start registering in thousands! By that time, you would have also "relaxed" some of your "match-criterias," so that would, actually start generating large no. of job-alert! That is what we want. Then there will be no need to enter/display "fictitious" figures!

Pl. remember, – at this stage, QUALITY of job alerts is not critical. It is the QUANTITY which is critical – In order to convince the jobseekers, to register, in the first place! We can always tighten the match-criteria later.

We have to, somehow, convince the "potentials" that, already, a large no. are benefitting and if they don't join, they will get "Left out"!

Useful Information

One of my advantage is that I get plenty of time to read newspapers/magazines and dig-up information which could be useful to our business.

I recently came across some such useful info which Deepa has converted into graphs and will soon install icons on your desktops to access. These are:

IT Jobs - who is hiring how many?

and

Eighth Annual India Salary - Increase survey by HEWITT ASSOCIATES

As far as the Salary survey graph is concerned, it should help you in properly advising your clients/candidates, during salary negotiations. If you feel advisable, you may even email this graph to your clients!

Infotech companies went on a recruitment binge in 2003. While Infosys added 2,600 employees in the December 2003 quarter, others added more as well. More significantly, their employee utilisation rates have remained pretty much on the higher side, close to 80 per cent as they have been fast expanding their client list as well.

Downloading & Creating a Structured database of Job Advts.

During last 2 months, Samata had been downloading from Naukri. I believe about 120,000 have been downloaded so far. (We also have 30,000 earlier sent by Sajida).

Occassionally I myself helped download ads from Monster India, whenever we found time.

Alltogether, in \text{\sout{Aug}}, Sept., we probably managed to download 3000 job advt/day - no more.

There were problems of

Internet Connection bad/not at all

Samata had some other urgent work.

Now that we have settled down comfortably in new office, with a 512 kb line, we must take-up this job on priority & in right earnest.

Our target should be 10,000 job advts/day

This will require 2 persons/2 machines.

Vittal should be one of them.

And, if Deepa cannot be spared full-time for this work, I suggest you take any "temporary/contractual" SSC boy for Rs. 1500/- p.m.

His target must be 5000/day (Same as for Vittal).

I would like this arrangement to be implemented & stabilized by next weekend i.e. 21^{\text{st}} Sept. That is enough time to buy a new PC (bare configuration).

Of course, clicking on a mouse is NOT "human use of human beings" - and should be used only till such time that

we get MYRIAD modified (at a price of course) so that, for 5 minutes every morning, you instruct it which job sites to visit & download, automatically.

develop a Spider on our own

Download Some spider free-ware, mentioned in FOSTER'S book "Recruiting on the Web" (now available with Kavita)

May be, Abhi may wish to set a target for implementing such a \text{\sout{spider}} - and "free" Deepa & Vittal to do some "human"

work!

As far as job-advts. are concerned, our first target is Indian job sites, starting with Naukri / Monster / Jobs Ahead / Job street / Jobsdb etc.

Today's advt. in Times of India, Speaks of 90,000 jobs (advts) available on Timesjobs.com!

In Google, if you type

"India + job sites"

you will get a list of 200+ job sites!

Our spider should be able to download job-advts from all of these.

Earlier, we had tried "Infogist.com" "https://www.google.com/search?q=lexsl%C3%B4t.com" (?) for Spiders (commercially available) but did not succeed because, at that time, our concentration was on downloading of

RESUMES.

And to access, resume database all job sites require SUBSCRIPTION & PASSWORD.

But this is not the case with job-advts.

Job - Advts fall under "PUBLIC" category & can be accessed/downloaded by anybody without a password/subscription.

Gradually, we must extend our efforts to USA - based job sites & download USA-based jobs (IT jobs only).

This is because all Indian IT professionals want to migrate to USA ( - except for those working in \text{3p} !).

If we succeed in downloading 2.5 lakh job advt/month (@ 10000/day x 25 days) and 10 Lakh in next 4 months, then we have a large enough database for

Conventional job-search feature on Jobseeker.com \text{\sout{Cour next website URL}}

"Functional - profile" job-search >

Match - Theory job-search >

Job - Alert as SMS on mobiles - (17 million now, 70 million by 2007)

"Job - Descriptions" for GuruAd module

"skill-wise keywords" for self-learning software

Mailing List of Advertisers to promote Recruit guru

"Job-Market Analysis" graphs (Trends) (sample given to Deepa 2/3 months back) for publishing in Newspapers/websites etc. to give us LOTS of FREE publicity!

Delivering JAWS (Jobs Across World Summary) to

  • Newspapers
  • Cyber Cafes
  • Other websites
  • TV channels etc

on Jobseeker.com, there will be a "Configure Your JAWS" page, which subscribers will fill-in & start getting JAWS at desired frequency.

Creating database of "Company-wide Vacancies advertised over the years. This will help, both Recruit guru & \text{3p} to market their services. Data mining at its best!

I am sure, you can think up of many other uses.

But one thing is most important. Whatever no. of job-advts. get downloaded during the daytime must get "AUTO-CONVERTED" & "UP-LOADED" on Jobseeker.com, SAME NIGHT! This process, too, must be automated. There should be no need for human intervention.
