Relationship Between

What will be the Change?

Jobsites & Newspapers

WWJ will aggregate/pool ads from no. of jobsites & deliver daily feed (JAS) for printing in papers. WWJ becomes a central "CLEARING HOUSE / EXCHANGE" between Jobsites & Newspapers & removes dependency to contact directly with help from WWJ.

Jobsites & Jobsites

GuruAd (A GREAT CONVENIENCE for Corporates) Jobsites will PULL (XML) GuruAd from WWJ. Every job-advt "approved" by any Corporate on any participating/partner jobsite, will automatically become part of Job-database& a part of JAS. GuruJob (A GREAT CONVENIENCE for Jobseekers) Any jobseeker clicking on this link (on any partner jobsite), will be able to conduct a jobsearch on a combined/consolidated/unified/single Jobs database which gets created/generated by: * Jobs downloaded by WWJ from "Non-participating jobsites" * Jobs approved (using GuruAd) on all "Participating/Partner" jobsites. As no of Participating/Partner Jobsites (rises) increases over a period of time, our dependence on "Non-Participating" jobsites decreases!

(Diagram illustrating the proposed scenario)

Job-Advts Posting on https://www.google.com/search?q=Monsterindia.com

I presume, by now, we should have received our Password / User ID, to enable us to start posting the job-advts. If not, Raju to follow-up.

Enclosed pl. find a "Draft" format of a typical job-advt. to be prepared / posted. Feel free to modify the draft. What is most important is that all consultants use the same STANDARD format.

You may also wish to look-up the FORMAT, designed& incorporated in CAC (Consultants' Assistant) Search tool designed by Vinay.

Once you finalize the draft, you may handover sufficient no. of photocopies to each consultant and ask them to fill-in the details (by hand?). They will need as many photocopies as the no. of assignments which each consultant is handling.

As per details given to me by Sri Ram, the no. of assignments being handled (by his team) are: Venu - - - 19 Sai - - - 16 Pranati - - - 3 Usha - - - 18

56

So, Sri Ram's group has to prepare 56 job-advts.

I would like Raju to give me similar break-up, consultant wise.

How soon can these advts be ready for uploading?

LESSONS FROM EBAY

Handwritten Notes

Top of page:

VEE - lay-er-new

There are quite a few similarities between what we are trying to do in VEE and what eBay as started.

  • Although we expect existing jobsites to join VEE, others can also join to "easily" start a jobsite - without having to "develop" on its own.
  • Although we don't expect to earn extra revenue from VEE directly, we expect it to support WTJ - where we will make money.
  • Even eBay is now into "classified"!
  • Helping others create websites (competing too!) is a "big change" in strategy for eBay.
  • It is same with us! - an extension of our mission VEE: "All Jobs Must Reach Everywhere!"
  • We are not asking any commission from VEE partner jobsites.
  • VEE partners will have their own "branding, co-name, colors etc"

Printed Article (eBay has a new way to help sellers)

eBay has a new way to help sellers

VERNE KOPYTOFF

Meg Whitman, eBay's chief executive, said that soon, sellers can set up stores outside the company's online marketplace.

The company last week intended to introduce a service called Prostores.

Prostores allow sellers an easy way to create a dedicated online store with a unique Web address and a choice of designs.

"We want to see our members grow, even off the eBay marketplace," Whitman said, speaking at her company's annual sellers conference last week in San Jose. The conference was closed to reporters to the South Bay during the first two days.

The new offering is intended to fill the desire by many eBay users to sell their products on multiple places online, an option that eBay hopes to generate revenue at a time when growth is slowing.

The company's U.S. business, in particular, is slowing, because of the inability to penetrate adequately to accelerate growth, compared to robust international markets, experiments with new kinds of commerce, such as selling classified ads and adding new payment methods.

Providing users a way to create an online store outside the marketplace is a big change in strategy for eBay. For the past company has spent the past 10 years trying to lure sellers to its site for their business, away from tools go elsewhere.

Prostores plugs out the new product as an extension of its Instant, Helping sellers go elsewhere.

However, Whitman said, "The growth of our sellers is the focus of our company."

Prostores offers several tiers, costing a minimum of 6.95 per month. eBay's signup page will cost 14.95, 24.95, and 106.95 for online products.

The service allows users to create online stores with their own branding, including their own logo, a change from current eBay rules. eBay's name need not appear.

Only fixed-price items can be sold in Prostores.

Previously, eBay product allowed users to create stores within the eBay marketplace.

However, in addition to being on an eBay address, those stores allow only minimal branding or customizing.

Prostores is expected to have such a store can integrate with existing eBay tools, where users can more easily manage the listings, order processing, eBay's online payment service, PayPal, is integrated as well.

Earlier, some members were skeptical of the new product.

The new offering is intended to fill the desire by many eBay users to sell products in multiple places online, not just on eBay. In helping them, eBay hopes to generate some revenue at a time when growth is slowing.

Most members complained that the plants are volatile and refund merchants coming too deep as a whole on eBay.

The users feared that the company would raise fees in the Prostores in the same way that by time, it would be too late for users to switch to another company's service.

Many users also use for casual users who work from their houses, said Ruth Lozowy, who uses a web site of their houses on eBay from her home in Cary, N.C. "It sets you can be dependent on the eBay but have been raised in the past."

Most of the apprehension comes against the backdrop of what eBay did four months ago. Users complained vociferously when the company began prominently promoting some experiment with search as eBay search tool, including Overstock.com and Amazon.com's Marketplace.

In other news, eBay also unveiled a service called Powersellers - a term for eBay's largest customers - to buy liquidated, refurbished and close-out goods from smaller sellers. Smaller sellers will not have access.

The so-called Reseller Marketplace will allow Powersellers to buy discounted merchandise in bulk.

REWRITING THE RULES

Rajeev / Rejji

GuruNet Business Rules

In one sitting, it is impossible to anticipate and write down all business-rules.

In enclosed pages, you will find some. As & when some new ideas come, I will keep sending notes.

In the meantime, pl. study enclosed as soon as you can, so that, we may delete each point (pros & cons) and reach a conclusion.

GuruNet (VEE) Business Rules / Features / Processes

GuruNet will consist of a Virtual network of websites – mostly jobsites – to begin with, only jobsites.

Partner jobsites would need to have following processes on their websites currently

  • For Corporate-clients (Subscribers)

Job Adut. Posting }

Resume Search } PAID

  • For Jobseekers

Resume Posting } Mostly

Job-Search } FREE

Resume Blasting (Free or Paid)

Partner jobsites would agree to POOL into GuruNet’s common/central database

  • All resumes getting posted by jobseekers
  • All job-advts “ “ Corporates

This would mean, from any partner jobsite,

  • A corporate would be able to conduct

a resume search on COMMON/POOLED resume database

  • A jobseeker would be able to conduct jobsearch on COMMON/POOLED job-advt. database.

This (Pooling of assets) is the CORE principle of GuruNet.

It is only thru POOLING, that GuruNet can succeed in attracting a large no. of jobseekers and large no. of (paying) Corporates.

It is only thru POOLING, that GuruNet can expect to rival/overtake Monster/Naukri.

For GuruNet, hosting platform will be Recruit-Guru.Com (RG)

On RG, there will be “Online” registration by willing jobsites (Application for Membership).

Before activating MEMBERSHIP of any applicant website,

  • There will be some kind of online/offline “verification” re: genuineness of applicant (we do not want any pornographic/dubious /fly-by-night website to become Member).
  • There will be receiving of a “License-fee” from applicant. This will be thru cheque with a covering letter. In any case, we are not expecting thousands of members, so we will not provide online payment.

The license-fee, to begin with, could be a very small amount of Rs. 100/= per year (which could be raised gradually in subsequent years).

The “License-period” (of One year) will start from the day we “activate” the service. This means next license-fee amount will fall due on anniversary.

Hence, license-periods will not coincide (may not coincide).

License-Fee (even a nominal amount) is necessary to establish

{RecruitGuru as Licensor}$$

{Partner Jobsite as Licensee,}$$

in order to protect our Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) over softwares technologies (our ownership)

to be able to “terminate” any member’s license, in case of breach of any license-conditions/terms.

We may even decide to draw-up and enter into a brief (2/3 page) offline/hardcopy “License Agreement” on stamp paper to protect our legal rights.

All job-advts and resumes flowing into the COMMON / CENTRAL database, would automatically become

{PUBLIC DOMAIN INFORMATION}$$

to which, no partner jobsite/s, individually or collectively, claim any ownership / copyright.

When a job-advt or a resume arrives into CENTRAL / COMMON database from a given jobsite, a copy will remain in the LOCAL / INDIVIDUAL database of that website.

That concerned partner/member may decide whether or not to retain that record/document in its own database and when to delete it.

Under no circumstance the entire COMMON / CENTRAL database, reside on the local webserver of any partner member.

5/24

How long to retain any given job-advt or any given resume in the COMMON database, will be decided by RG at its sole discretion – although RG will laydown a “GUIDELINE FOR RETENTION” and make it known to all members thru an ADMIN TOOL.

On Recruit-Guru.Com itself, there will be no provision for any of the processes, VIZ

  • Job Posting / Resume Search (Corporates)
  • Resume Posting / Job Search (Candidates)

The UI for all the above-mentioned processes will be “identical” as pulled from RG.com

{Displays will also be identical.}$$

The advantage is that if any change is required to be made, it need to be done ONLY on RG server.

New features (eg: Job Advt. Broadcast) can also be added from one single source (i.e. RG).

Subscribing Corporates will be able to download full resumes (those that get shortlisted, at the end of a resume-search).

Q:

If, after subscribing to Monster, we are able to download thousands of resumes automatically, then how will we prevent someone else playing the same trick on us?

Ans: It’s very much possible to stop someone playing the same trick on us.

Jobseekers (conducting jobsearch) will be able to - download full job advt

- email “ “

- apply online

Even though this service is FREE, they would need User ID / Password.

For jobseekers, a RESUME-BLASTING service will be incorporated (to send resumes to placement agencies).

By keeping a substantially lower “price/charge” for resume-blasting as compared to Monster / Naukri / JobsAhead, our partner jobsites will be able to attract a large no. of jobseekers to take advantage of this service. This will enable them to make money.

7/24

In Resume-blasting service, a partner website

fixes price

collects money, then

activates

so we will need a signal from partner before we could email resume.

Points to be decided:

No other jobsite displays the names of the placement agencies - hence a jobseeker is “kept in dark”. If GuruNet displays these names, it will merit “credibility”.

Most jobsite offer only one-or-two options, such as

  • Blast to 500 agencies
  • “ “ to 1200 agencies etc.

and charge between Rs. 500 to 700.

Can we think of an option, where a jobseeker himself decides & selects agencies ($\checkmark$)? In this case, he is not forced! If he selects 212 agencies, he sends cheque for Rs. 212/= ! NOW, he feels he has the control.

2/4

Resume-Blasting to Corporates (End-Employers)

I don’t think any site offers this option. If GuruNet offers, then it will “differentiate” itself from run-of-the-mill jobsites.

GuruNet must “differentiate” itself from all routine jobsites – and not merely in the size of its job-adut. database/resume database, but also in terms of its “features” & the “convenience” it offers to both jobseekers & Corporates. It must make their life “Simple”.

We can provide a droplist (or more than one droplists) of Corporate-Names and then a jobseeker can select ($\checkmark$) any no. of these.

Once jobseeker has paid the partner-website – and we get signal – we blast the resume to the selected Corporates.

In this feature, jobseeker bypasses the intermediary Viz: Placement Agencies. His resume directly reaches the employer!

The dropdown lists could be:

BS 500 or ET 100 Top Companies

{OR}

Most frequent job-advertisers (as found from our database of job-advts – constantly updated) arranged in descending order of the no. of advts. released / posted. The “No. of Advts Released (Cummu)” itself could be displayed against the name of each advertiser (incl. Placement Agencies).

This (descending) arrangement will tell the jobseekers

{“Who is hiring the most?”}$$

He will think his chance (of appointment) is better/higher if he applies to such companies.

“Resume-Blasting to Employers” could become a feature which enables a partner jobsite to make more money. At least, we must promote it as such.

If GuruNet can boast of many features whereby Jobsites can make money, they will be willing to join VEE.

Job Advt. Broadcasting (JAB)

This could, perhaps become THE MOST POWERFUL feature to enable partner jobsites to make TONS of money!

And this is one feature which Monster/Naukri CANNOT offer!

When a Corporate posts a job-advt. on any partner jobsite, at the bottom, there will be a message:

"Dear job-advertiser:

Thank you for posting your job-advt. It has become "searchable" by all jobseekers conducting jobsearches from all partner websites of GuruNet.

But this is still, a "passive" method. Your advt. will just sit there in the database, waiting for some jobseeker to come by and discover it! There is no way it can shout/announce its presence!

Do you want your advt. to go out and reach-out to most suitable candidates?

On their mobile-phones?

within next 15 minutes?

And then started getting resumes within next 30 minutes? - instead of 30 days!

We will do this for you - for just Rs. 1/2 per candidate to whom we deliver your

Job - Advt. Broadcast (JAB)

We will deliver your JAB, thru our associate

www.World-Wide-Jobs.com,

using their Job Alert Mobile (JAM) Service.

$\{Then we will send you the bill, mentioning the no. of JAB sent out.

To convince you, you will be charged nothing for the first 10 JABs.

Just say,

"Please JAB my job-advt $\checkmark$"

$\longrightarrowA partner jobsite may also decide/declare to adjust JAB charges from "Resume-Search" subscription amount lying to the credit of corporate? But how? I think

What are the different ways/methods by which a partner jobsite can/will make money?

CURRENT SCENARIO

[Diagram with a circle split in half]

  • Left: Resume - Search Subscription from Corporates
  • Right: Job Advt. Posting - Subscription from Corporates

FUTURE SCENARIO

[ When jobsite joins GuruNet network ]

[Pie Chart Diagram]

  • Left Bracket: Revenue From Corporate Subscribers
    • Advt. Posting
    • Resume Search
    • Job Advt. Broadcast (JAB)
  • Right Bracket: Additional Revenue from Jobseekers
    • Resume Blasting to Placement Agencies
    • Email Job Alerts
    • For attaching FUNC. PROFILE to Resume during Apply - Online.

This diagram should be made part of our "GuruNet Membership Offer" Folders which we will send to jobsites. They would think of joining when they see so many extra stream of Revenue.

Job Alerts thru email

Many jobsites are currently offering this - and charging a fixed monthly/quarterly/annual subscription to jobseekers. We too should have this feature on GuruNet.

While offering all these services/features, our problem will be to devise a foolproof billing/payment/account-keeping/activation software. To understand look at following:

USERS SERVICES ↓

Corporates

Candidates

Fixed Annual (or Quarterly) Subscription (Advance)

Job Advt. Post

E-mail Job alerts

Resume Search

Pay-Per-Use Charge

Job Advt. Broadcast [JAB]

Next look at following:

How will it get "Activated"?

- Prepaid Advance - No fixed period - STOPS when "advance" gets exhausted

TO Jobseekers

Prepaid/Fixed Sum (M-Q-A) STOPS when Period gets over

Resume Blast - Corpo. - Pl. Agencies

These being "ONE-TIME" activities, will get activated after receiving from partner jobsites, a "SPECIFIC SIGNAL" $\odot(as opposed to "PERIOD-BASED SIGNAL")

- Prepaid (but "Amt" of advance will correspond to No. of Corporates or Agencies selected for blasting

Attach FUNC. PROFILE graphs

"Period-Based" signal from jobsite

Prepaid/Fixed sum for M/Q/A STOPS when period over

I feel even "Attach FUNC. Profile graphs to resume" service should be made a Fixed Monthly/Quarterly/Annual subscription - payable by candidates in advance to partner jobsites.

Why get into the trouble/hassle of keeping count of "No of Apply Online" clicks - then keep adjusting PREPAID amount paid/balance etc. etc.? Too much overhead.

If we do this, then the only "Pay-Per-Use" services remaining, will be

  • JAB (For Corporates)
  • Resume Blasting (For Job seekers)

I don't think any candidate would want to blast his resume again & again to placement agencies/corporates. But you never know what jobseekers will do, if, for a "Onetime" fixed amount, they could be entitled to "Unlimited" blasting for a month or a Quarter! So, we may be better off, keeping it "Pay-per-use".

To really simplify matters - at least till GuruNet really becomes very popular amongst corporates & jobseekers - we should even consider making JAB as a "Fixed

charge" service for 3 month. Then we can figure out, how many jobs actually get "broadcast" to how many JAMMERS. If the load becomes too much, we could later convert JAB into "pay-per-use" (involving all counting/accounting/billing/balance-calculation problems).

With bandwidth/hosting & hardware prices falling all the time, I believe, more & more service-providers would want to change-over to a "Fixed monthly/Quarterly charge", irrespective of usage. This is already happening in mobile-phone services.

Earlier I spoke of a "Revenue-earning" feature $\starAttaching FUNC. PROFILE graphs to resumes when delivering these to advertisers. I even put it under "Pay-Per-Use".

I looked upon this as an additional source of revenue from jobseekers.

On second thought, I think it is a bad idea to

make it "Pay-per-use"

payable by jobseekers.

I think, this feature/service must be made FREE!

We may not even mention it anywhere on GuruNet pages.

We just quietly process each resume thru GuruMine to generate FUNC. PROFILE graphs.

But we don't send regular ImageBuilder to employers.

We simply attach FUNC. PROFILE graphs - with a brief note, explaining its significance and how percentile-score makes an HR's life so easy & increase his productivity manyfold.

Jobseekers need not even know that we are attaching their FUNC. PROFILE graphs to the advertisers.

For obvious reasons:

If we intend charging a jobseeker for this "optional" service, then first we would need to convince him how it would help him - besides explaining how these profiles get generated in the first place - not an easy task.

If a particular candidate's percentile score is "Low/Poor" in any case, he does not want ANYONE to see his profile - certainly not by a recruitment manager!

Even if a candidate gets high percentile score and therefore, he is keen to show it to Recruitment Manager, there is, earlier-mentioned hassle of Counting/accounting/billing/payment/balance etc. etc. A very complicated proposition indeed.

On the other hand, let us see what happens, if we simply attach & send the profile, along with each & every "Apply Online" click, without the knowledge of the candidates?

We can claim/boast to Corporate job-advertiser that, we are giving them this FABULOUS/FANTASTIC, "Value-Add", absolutely free-of-cost!

We can claim this like CRISIL or S&P or DUN & BRADSTREET's

"Rating" given to all Companies.

No Company can influence this $3^{rd}party - independent - unbiased rating.

Because, above-mentioned Companies DO NOT accept any money/fees from the companies which they are rating! Hence the rating-companies (CRISIL etc) do not

stand to gain/benefit by rating some Company high (AAA+) and some company low (--BB).

This independence/neutrality gives "credibility" to their ratings. The ratings are above suspicion!

We must claim the same to Corporate job-advertisers by saying, "We do not accept any fees from jobseekers for rating/creating their function profiles. We do not create FUNC. PROFILES of only those candidates who pay us (i.e. to our partner jobsites).

  • We rate all of them.
  • We don't show them their rating.
  • We don't share FUNC PROFILES with them
  • We do it, purely as a Value-Add for you, to increase YOUR productivity.

And, last & most important point,

  • You can get these FUNC. PROFILES of candidates ONLY from GuruNet partner jobsites. No other jobsites can give you these - neither Monster nor Naukri.

Hence, if you Value these "Ratings", you better post all of your job-advs on GuruNet jobsites!

I think these arguments will impress Corporate Advertisers. Then, when they really find these FUNC PROFILES a very important “INPUT” for their decision,

"Shall I call this guy for interview or not?"

then, more $\&more, they would post their job-advts on a partner jobsite.

May be less $\&less posting on Monster/Naukri.

And, since, jobsites make their money from Corporates, they too will be very happy that,

Whereas earlier they were getting only 10 job-advts posted on their site every-day, now they are getting 100!

Not only we succeed in making partners happy and prove our point, that by joining us they will make more money,

We will also succeed in getting many more job-advts (to serve our WWJ/JAM Community) thereby reducing our Vulnerability to Monster/Naukri shutting-off downloading!

Flow of job-advts

This (Flow) will be bothways i.e.

Advts. getting posted on partner jobsites will flow to WWJ database and then used for matchmaking/generating JAM

Advts. being downloaded (by GuruSpider) for purpose of JAM, will also flow into GuruNet (VEE) Jobs database and become searchable by jobseekers.

In both these cases, "Source" must be the jobsite concerned.

This "two-way" flow of job-advts. will make both, WWJ $\&GuruNet stronger. This flow will include JAB advts. (posted on partner jobsites) also flowing into WWJ.

Flow of Resumes

There will be NO flow of resumes

either from WWJ to GuruNet

(we have promised JAM members that

no one can search/see their resumes!)

Or from GuruNet to WWJ

(In anycase this does not serve any purpose, because, on WWJ there is no resume-search! )

Of course, what we will directly download from Monster/Naukri or any other jobsite, including 3P's so far for accumulated advts $\&resumes, will go into GuruNet database.

When a candidate conducts job-search, the short-display must show, against each job-advt, its "Source" i.e. name of jobsite (as done in JAS). This will convince the candidates that GuruNet does "aggregate" jobs from many jobsites (of course, since he has no independent method of finding whether all of these jobsites are "partners" or not, he will simply think/believe that they are partners!)

It is very important to give to both jobseekers $\&to Corporates, an impression that GuruNet has a large no. of partners - especially to Corporates.

We must also use this "gimmick" to convince "potential" partner jobsites to join GuruNet.

All we need to do is to provide some User ID/Password to such "potential" (but hesitating) jobsites and tell them,

Sir,

"Now conduct a jobsearch and see for yourself, how many thousands of job-advts. we have.

Also see the "sources". Most of these sources are our partners!

you can also conduct a "resume-search" and in the short display, against name of each candidate, you will find the name of the "partner" jobsite from where this resume came!"

But if bulk of job-advts $\&resumes have come from Monster/Naukri, they are unlikely to believe what we say!

So, we would (at least to begin with), need to download job-advts $\&resumes from a large no. of small jobsites - in order to create an impression, that many jobsites have joined GuruNet!

  • Using 10:90 rule, it is obvious that a large no. of jobsites are in the "LOW/LOW" corner. They have very few clients posting very few advts.
  • Since jobsites derive nearly all of their revenues from Corporate-clients, it is equally obvious that these jobsites will be VERY amenable/willing to join VEE, if VEE can offer them 2 solutions, which will get them, many more "paying" clients.

Q: What (feature of these jobsites) would attract/motivate to

  • Subscribe to such jobsites
  • Post their advts.

Ans:

Corporates would subscribe and post their advts on only those jobsites where, they know that a very large no. of jobseekers visit regularly for jobsearch.

It is obvious that a jobseeker would visit - and conduct jobsearches - Only on those jobsites where he has posted his resume.

Corollary

If any jobsite has many more resumes posted on it, then, those are also the jobsites, more visited by jobseekers (for jobsearch).

Conclusion

Hence, unless Corporates are satisfied that a particular jobsite has thousands of resumes - and therefore, likely to have thousands of daily job-searches, - these Corporates are unlikely to post their job-advts on that site.

Conclusion

Therefore a jobsite would have to prove/satisfy its "potential" Corporate clients that

  • It has a very large resume database

and

  • A large no. of jobseekers DO conduct thousands of jobsearches on it daily

Therefore

  • "If you post your job-advt on my site, it will get noticed/discovered by a large no. of job-seekers, who will then "Apply online" to you. You will get a huge response."

How can a jobsite prove these points to a Corporate Visitor?

  • By displaying on its homepage 2 Counters :
    • No. of Active Jobseekers (Resumes Database) [Blank box]
    • Daily Ave. No. of Jobsearches conducted [Blank box]

[Combined fig. of all jobsites participating in VEE]

If these counters show impressive numbers, then Corporates will get attracted.

And, of course, to begin with, we will populate these counters with our own resume database of 4/5 lakh jobseekers!

On top of that, before launch of VEE, if we succeed in downloading 5/7 lakh resumes from Monster then our counter can show a very "respectable" fig. of 10/12 lakhs!

Such a fig. would put VEE in 3rd position, behind Monster & Naukri.

But getting Corporates interested in just posting their job-advts (on any partner jobsite) is still, a PASSIVE approach.

A Corporate HR manager thinks,

"Sure! If I post my job-advt on your website, it may get noticed, it may get discovered by those jobseekers who conduct a jobsearch. So, it is a matter of chance/luck.

But, for each jobseeker who visits and conducts a jobsearch, there maybe 10 others, who don't bother to log-in regularly, and conduct jobsearches. They will never get to see my job-advt!"

Therefore, although I will post my advt. in the hope of getting discovered by those 10%, I am interested in reaching out to the remaining 90%.

Pro-actively, I want to "discover" them! - by conducting a "Resume-Search" on your database / shortlisting suitable resume / contacting them / offering them jobs.

And I would/could do all of these only if you have a large resume-database that I can search. That is where 90% passive jobseekers are hiding (Those, who are not actively conducting job-searches).

Because, they are not going to discover me! I have to discover them!

So, I am less interested in posting a job-advt.

But

I am much more interested in conducting a resume-search.

And I am willing to pay for resume-search

CONCLUSIONS

  • A corporate is more interested in... (The text is cut off here)

... Resume Search & less in job-advt posting

  • He will subscribe to "Resume-Search" (and be willing to pay for it) if there is a large resume database
  • He does not want to shortlist, same guy again & again, during each resume-search (- something that is bound to happen if the resume-database remains STATIC/STAGNANT/SAME SIZE).
  • He wants to discover newer & newer faces, during each search.

This could only happen if the resume database keeps GROWING RAPIDLY.

And VEE's resume database cannot "grow" rapidly, unless all partner jobsites contribute to that growth - by making available their resumes to the COMMON/CONSOLIDATED pool.

Even if VEE rule/condition, does not insist that a partner contribute (to the common pool), his PAST/EXISTING/CURRENT database of resumes,

this rule must insist that, from... (The text is cut off here)

... the day a jobsite enrolls as a "partner", whatever resumes get posted thereafter, MUST/WILL form part of common pool.

Let us examine

Diagram: A 2x2 matrix similar to Scan_0001.jpg.

  • X-axis: No. of Resumes Posted (Low, Medium, High)

Low

High

High

Monster, Naukri, Jobs Ahead (Some 3/4 jobsites)

Med

Low

40/50 Jobsites

This representation / visual is even much more true as compared to the visual on p:1.

Those 3/4 jobsites who have resume-databases running into a few millions are also the ones having largest no. of Corporate clients (-who want to conduct resume searches).

Next see, what could happen!

Diagram: A 2x2 matrix with a curve.

  • Y-axis: No. of Clients (Low, High, Huge $\uparrow$)
  • X-axis: No. of Resumes (Low, Med, High, Huge $\rightarrow$)

Low

Med.

High

Huge

Huge

Monster/Naukri

VEE (Collectively)

High

Med

Low

Individually (30/40 Jobsites)

(A curve starts near "Low" on both axes (30/40 Jobsites) and moves up and right, past Monster/Naukri, ending at "VEE (Collectively)" in the Huge/Huge quadrant.)

Individually these 30/40 jobsites were no where - a mere speck on horizon - totally "ignorable" by giants like Monster/Naukri - not worth a second look!

No competition to Monster/Naukri!

As far as Corporates are concerned, these 30/40 jobsites do not merit a second look. These are NOT worth investing their time - effort - money!

But what happens when they choose to form a VEE?

Collectively / Unitedly, - and pooling together their resume databases (forget duplication!), they could overtake Monster/Naukri!

Now their Collective resume database could well rival those of... (The text is cut off here)

... Monster or Naukri. Such a collective resume database would be large enough to interest the Corporates - make them think seriously to subscribe to VEE. (- even though a Corporate cannot "directly" subscribe to VEE and can only subscribe to an individual jobsite).

But, still, in effect, a Corporate Subscriber of any partner jobsite has full/unrestrained "access" to the collective/common database of VEE.

Diagram: A lever diagram.

  • Fulcrum (Pivot): Small triangle slightly closer to the right side.
  • Left End: Resume Database of an individual jobsite (Small downward arrow with $\downarrow$ symbol).
  • Right End: VEE's Collective Resume Database (Larger downward arrow with $\downarrow$ symbol).
  • Leverage Line: Labeled "Membership Leverage" with an arrow pointing from the left side towards the right side/fulcrum.

What is the clear/unambiguous message?

  • By Contributing its own/small resume database to VEE, a relatively marginal/unimportant jobsite, is able to leverage its "membership" a "thousand fold" in terms of attracting Corporates.
  • Whereas, Individually, none of these insignificant jobsites could ever dream of competing with Monster/Naukri, now, collectively they could "take-on" anyone! Those, who, till yesterday were "underdogs" suddenly acquire respectability! This could be a powerful incentive/motivator to some of these smaller sites.
  • By forming VEE, it is possible that market-share of partner job-site goes up.

Diagrams: Two pie charts.

BEFORE

  • Chart: Slices labeled Monster and Naukri are significantly larger.
  • Remaining area is broken into many small slices labeled Small Jobsites.

AFTER

  • Chart: The slices for Monster and Naukri are smaller than before.
  • A large new slice is labeled VEE Members.
  • Remaining area is labeled Other/Non-Members.
  • But, in trying to convince many small jobsites to join VEE, our more important/powerful argument will be:
    • Each of you are, today fighting... (The text is cut off here)

with the rest of you (—never with Monster / Naukri, because there is no way you can).

Even after formation of VEE and your becoming a partner, you will still need to compete with the rest for attracting Corporate Clients. There is no running away from this fact.

But, VEE will expand the PIE!

Even if your market-share remains SAME (say 5%) as BEFORE, now this 5% means

Many more clients

Much higher subscription-revenue.

So, let us not fight on "gaining/losing" our individual market-share % to each others.

Rather, let us join hands to form VEE to increase the SIZE OF THE PIE.

How will this happen?

How will PIE grow bigger?

As of today, maybe, altogether there are no more than 5000 corporate-subscribers between all jobsites put together (including Monster + Naukri).

Maybe 4000 out of these 5000 are subscribing to Monster/Naukri (80:20 Rule).

But, if VEE is able to offer a viable/sizeable "alternative", with its collective resume matching those (databases) of Monster/Naukri,

But, at 50% subscription-rates (as compared to what Monster/Naukri are charging currently),

then,

two things will happen

Monster/Naukri may be forced to drop their subscription-rates

drastically (to meet competition from VEE), to prevent migration of their existing corporate subscribers to VEE.

and

Another 10,000 Corporates, who earlier never thought of using jobsites [for ad-posting/resume-searching] because of high subscription-rates, would now become subscribers (mostly of VEE).

E-recruitment PIE could very well double-or triple!

We just signed-up with Monster for job-posting + resume search for Rs. 1 lakh/year.

Even for a recruitment company like us (whose business entirely revolves around resume-search/job-posting), amount of Rs. 1 lakh was felt quite "high".

Then what about thousands and thousands of End-Employers, who need to appoint no more than 10 executives/year?

They don't need to post more than 10 job-ad- / year and/or conduct 10 resume-search per year.

Will they ever spend Rs. 1 lakh/year?

On the other hand,

for such "low usage" corporates, would Monster/Naukri agree for a subscription of Rs. 1000/- per year?

But, what would happen if VEE offers them

Rs. 100 for each job ad-posting

Rs. 100 for each resume-search

("Pay-per-use" instead of a huge/fixed time-based - annual-subscription).

Would not e-recruitment market EXPLODE?

Even your neighborhood "pharmacy-store" would happily post a job or conduct a resume search!

There are millions of such small businesses in India - who have never heard of Monster/Naukri

but, at such (pay-per-use) prices, they would hear about VEE!

Q: Who (which jobsites) would be willing to share/pool its own resume database with VEE?

Ans:

It is obvious that those who have least to lose but most to gain (by joining), will happily join.

These will be job-sites having a very small resume database... just not "enough to attract Corporates".

By joining VEE, now they are able to tell potential Clients

"Look, on my jobsite, you can conduct resume-search on 10 lakh resumes and for a meagre Rs. 100 per search! What do you say?

And what is more - based on no. of searches conducted, I will send you a quarterly bill when you pay up. NO upfront down payment (one year) of Rs. 1 lakh!"

But he cannot say this to any Corporate unless he joins VEE!

Of course, VEE shall not/must not dictate to a partner jobsite what it wants to charge its clients and how (when) it wants to charge. VEE

has no role to play in the "PRICING" decisions of its partners - nor any role to play in the "MARKETING/PROMOTION" decisions of its partners. We can suggest but these (decisions) are their prerogatives.

But one thing is clear.

If a jobsite can exchange a brick for a jade, it will!

If it has nothing to lose and everything to gain, it will join VEE.

And then, we are not asking them to "deposit/pool" their past/current resumes (—but they are welcome, if they want to).

If, as a small/insignificant jobsite, I know that I am getting no more than 20 resumes/day, would I object to deposit/pool these, if, in return, my Corporate client can search 10 Lakh resumes?

I would simply jump/grab such an opportunity.

For VEE, this is then the "Target Group". The "quality" of the group is Immaterial. What matters

most (to VEE at the beginning is the QUANTITY - of partnering jobsites.

VEE must be able to show to the world - and especially to potential partners - that it has succeeded in tying-up with a large no. of jobsites - even if these are

  • no more than "brochures"
  • no more than URL's

A large no. Impresses. It lends credibility.

A large queue makes people believe that there must be something "valuable" for which such large no. of people have queued-up!

Once, we can sign-up enough no. of "LOW/LOW" jobsites, it would become easy to rope-in "Medium/Medium" sites.

This is also the logic behind offering TAS to a large no. of low circulation/small town newspapers.

Once we get a large no. of such "what Do I lose?" jobsites to sign-up, our bargaining power (vis-a-vis medium size jobsites) goes up.

Then, we can tell them

"We can have only one rule for all partners. We cannot make exception now - when already 25 jobsites have already joined up.

They have all agreed to pool, not only their job-ads but also their resumes.

If we make an exception in your case, it would be unfair to them. VEE is a fair/transparent organisation, where, thru ADMIN TOOL, each & every partner will know the Corporate activities & statistics, not only of his own jobsite but of all partner sites. In a partnership, there can be no hiding of facts. Without total transparency, there can be no trust & no team-work.

We would be happy to welcome you as a partner of VEE, only if you fully subscribe to our "value" viz:

Wealth can only get "co-created" thru co-sharing of information/knowledge, on an equal footing by all participants"
