Software Development Logic.

PATTERN OBSERVED

CONCLUSION / DEDUCTION

Software Development Logic.

In 4 out of 12 resumes, the very first set of words (right at the top) were: - Resume / Bio Data / Curriculum Vitae

These words appear 30% of times These words help to confirm that the document is indeed a Resume Absence of these words is not significant. The document may still be a resume!

If you come across these words, just ignore!

NAME

More than 90% of the times, the next set of words are: Bold and/or Capital and/or Large font size, and written as Rajesh Varma (bold) VIKAS KOHLI (capital) SAWANT NITIN MAHADEO (") AMIT KUMAR SINGH (") ABHIJIT P. SALVE (") Sachin Gangadhare (bold) Paul Anthony Chirmal (") Pramod Perkar (") Vinay Bagri CFA, ACA (Large) Hemant Ambokar ( ? ) MOHAN MURTI (Capital) Dr. Sunil Motival (bold)

These words denote "Name" of the candidate The set consists of either 2 or 3 words Occasionally the set may start with a "salutation" such as "Mr" / "Ms" / "Dr" - If salutation-word is ignored then the first word is usually "First Name" If the set consists of only 2 words, the second word is usually "Last Name" / "Family Name" / "Surname". In a few cases, the first word may be 'Last Name' (eg. SAWANT) The second word, always starts with a capital letter Usually, there is no 'comma' or 'full stop' between First & Second word.

As a next step, search for Bold / Capital / Large font words (distinguishing characteristic) Search for "salutation-word". If found, ignore. Place first word into "First Name" field Place second word into "Last Name" field (In case the set consists of 2 words only) In case set consists of 3 words, place second (Middle) word into "Second Name" field

  • CH 2.1 -

Logic / 2

PATTERN OBSERVED

CONCLUSION / DEDUCTION

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT LOGIC.

ADDRESS

Usually the "Address" block follows the "Name" block

There is no resume without "Address-Block". It is always present.

Compare with "CITY-MASTER" database and locate line word contains "City-Name" check that this is followed by PIN code.

Occasionally this block may have a title such as 'Address' / 'Permanent Address' / 'Correspondence Address'

100% of Address blocks contain "City Name & PIN".

Search backward upto set of words denoting "Candidates Name". This is the point where "Address-Block" starts / begins.

Sometime "Address" may be found under "Personal Details" / "Personal Info" block

This is a sure way of locating / finding the Address-block

Search forward upto line containing character "@". Place this line in field "E-mail" ID (Last word could be .com / .net etc.)

Usually Address-block, comprises of: - Building No. and/or Bldg. Name - Street / Road Name - City Name / PIN (always) - Phone No. / Mobile No. - email ID

Great majority of Address-blocks consist of 3 lines

Search for lines containing "Phone" / "Ph" / "Contact" etc. & place in "Resi-Phone" Field.

Most commonly occuring words are: Road / Vihar / Towers / Floor / Complex / Society / Hsg / Lane / Colony / Nagar / Apartment / Apt. / Behind / Opp. / Above / Co-op / Sector / Plot / CHS / Flat / Blvd / City / Extension / South-North / East / West.

City Name / PIN usually occurs in Second or Third line.

Search for word "Mobile" or "Ph" followed by 10 numerals (or 12 incase of 9) & place in "Mobile Phone" field.

Address-block usually ends with email ID & occasionally with Ph.No / Mobile No.

The Address-block can be presumed to end with the line that contains character "@" - unless the next line starts with words "Phone" / "Ph" / "Mobile" / "Contact" etc.

email almost always contains, Yahoo / Rediffmail / Hotmail (India times)

Address-block fonts are usually the smallest in the resume.

Maxm no. of lines in a Address Block, is SIX.

Every resume (without exception) contains e-mail line, as a part of Address block

Address block may contain "Fax. No"

Logic / 3

Pattern Observed

MAIN BLOCKS

Altogether there are 9 MAIN blocks (- There are a few 'minor')

These blocks occur as follows (from "most frequent" to "least frequent"): -

Search for the first (occuring) MAIN title and flag it. Then continue forward till you hit the second (occuring) MAIN title. What lies in-between (these two titles) is the "Content" of the first main title. Place this content in this field.

These are variously differently described. Although "descriptions / titles / headings" differ, based on similarity of their "contents", I have grouped these as follows (kind of "synonyms"):

$\checkmark$ Education / Edu. Qualification (12)

Repeat the process again and again until entire resume gets "processed".

Objectives / Goal / Target Job

$\checkmark$ Experience / Work Experience (12)

Summary / Career Profile / Profile etc

$\checkmark$ Job Profile / Job Responsibility (4)

While "parsing" the resume in this way, look out for MINOR titles (List given elsewhere) - which are usually in Bold / Capital letters and/or in large font sizes. At this point create a separate para, within the Main Block.

Experience / Work Experience etc

$\checkmark$ Profile / Career Profile (3)

Role / Key Role / Key Result Area etc

$\checkmark$ Projects Handled (3)

Achievements / Key Achievements etc

$\checkmark$

Skills / Computer Skills etc

These "Titles / Headings" (or their equivalent Synonyms) appear in bold / Capital / large fonts just above each block, signalling the "start" of each block.

As a very first step, quickly look-up (by Comparing?) ALL the various font-sizes used/employed in entire resume. Remove all that content which is in the MOST FREQUENTLY used font-size. What remains would be:- - Main Block Titles - Designation - Minor Titles - Person's Name - Company Names - Work Duration (Period)

Project work / Projects Handled etc

Edu / Edu.Quali / Academic Profile etc.

Such a block continues till we come across, another "MAIN" title.

Personal Details / Personal Info etc.

"Minor-block titles" may be part of a MAIN block or these may be "stand-alone"

Sometimes even a "MAIN" block, may form part of another "MAIN" block!
