Job searching — Archival Method

In my note dt. 02-01-06, I have proposed TWO U/I, viz:

  • Jobsearch Company Name Wise
  • Jobsearch Chronological

Over the weekend, I kept thinking about Rajeev’s suggestion re:

“Searching Archives by Position-Name”.

I have reached conclusion that this is the right way!

Chronological search does not make any sense what-so-ever!

Then, as far as Company-Name wise search is concerned, a company could have released 100/500 job advts. in a year, for positions, starting from

PEON

to

PRESIDENT!

It would be ridiculous to make......a jobseeker, first click on “W”

then click on WIPRO

then scroll thru 500 advts.,

to locate position of “QA Supervisor”

He is quite prepared to consider the position of “QA Supervisor”, in

  • WIPRO
  • INFOSYS
  • TCS
  • Pragati
  • Datamatic
  • Sterling
  • Spectramind
  • Progeon
  • Oracle

Not only presenting to him, a list of advertisers “POSITION-WISE”, make his search very easy & fast BUT, he is now much more likely to click-open, 10 advts of “QA Supervisor” (of 10 reputed companies), in order to decide, which one to “Apply Online”. So, if these 10 companies are already subscribers of Global Recruiter, we earn Rs. 10/- for 10 clicks (provided those advts. were “posted” & not downloaded).

The revised U/I is enclosed.

Job Posting – Archival Method

This has been organised as:

Alphabet Company Name Alphabet (Position) Position Name Job Advt. Display

This arrangement (sequence) is designed, keeping in mind that this tool is going to be used by HR Managers.

Their first—and obvious—choice is to look-up past/similar advts. posted by their own company—so they want to start with their own "Company Name". Then drill down to relevant advt.

They would be happy that someone is storing/archiving all of their past advts in ONE PLACE in a manner that searching ANY particular past advt. takes only a few seconds! (Like GMail).

They may even appreciate if you provide them with a facility/feature, to upload (from their harddisk), some advts, which they find missing from Global Recruiter’s archives!

Obviously, we are downloading advts from only 2/3 jobsites whereas a given Corpo. Subscriber may be posting advts. on many other jobsite.

He may be even releasing advts. in newspapers/magazines etc.

So, he would prefer to have a SINGLE / CONSOLIDATED / COMPREHENSIVE archive of ALL of his job-advts, at one place $\rightarrow$ and easily searchable.

Makes a lot of sense.

Please consider including this feature.

Next

HR Mgr of any sizeable/respected company would also know, which other companies are competitors to his own company.

So, he will be also tempted to look-up job-advts of his competitors and STEAL a few good ideas—by way of job-description etc.

And, someday, job-advts posted by Corpo. Subscribers of Global Recruiter, will also start pouring into the JOB ARCHIVE.

And when they do, these advts. will also carry "Approx. Gross Annual Salary Offered".

So, if I was HR Mgr. of WIPRO, I would certainly like to look up advts. released by INFOSYS, so that I know, what salary is Infosys offering to "Business Analysts".

In fact, over a longer period, we could even tabulate the trend viz.

Position

Business Analyst

Company

WIPRO

Job Advt No (Job Code)

Release/Posting Date

Gross Ann. Salary Offered

Jan 2005

2.6 L

April 2005

2.8 L

Oct 2005

3.0 L

Feb 2006

3.2 L

Such a ready-made / ready-reckoner / comparison shopping would be a GREAT HIT with HR Mgrs!

Incidentally, even any Mgr/Visitor, who has not even subscribed to any partner website of Global Recruiter, should also be able to "tryout/experiment" with Job Posting—Archival way. So that he knows—first hand—exactly how it works & how he can benefit. Only, if he is not a subscriber, he cannot SUBMIT when edited job-advt. is ready!

Job Advt Archival Search

Leave two months clear gap. i.e. on Jan 1, 2006, the month to be added will be "Oct 2005", and on Feb 1, we upload "NOV 2005".

Reason

NO other jobsite should get a temptation to start aggregation by downloading "readymade" database from our site!

Feature

How will users benefit? What are our advantages?

Job Search – Archival

A user interested in applying to a specific company, only, will find this a useful feature.

Our Advantages

Even as we are waiting for Corporates to come forward and post "structured" jobs, we can offer at least SOME kind of jobsearch to jobseekers—even though CRUDE (Not sophisticated).

By uploading some 500,000 jobs (advts) on Global Recruiter, search-engine spiders will index (maybe) 50 million keywords contained in these 0.5 million job-advts.

This would mean that, on almost any keyword/term used by a surfer on any search-engine, our website would always come-up amongst top 10! Great free publicity & lots of traffic!! (-a kind of Search Engine Optimization)

Feature: Job Posting — Archival

User Benefit:

  • Very fast job posting
  • No need to fill-in long form, asking for SAME info, again & again. For a given Corporate subscriber, most of a job-advt, contains same/static/repetitive info. There are small changes, here and there.
  • Own past job-advts are a pretty good "benchmark" for a HR mgr—especially if the vacancy/position/designation remains same. For same vacancy, job descriptions & man-specification, almost always remain SAME.
  • A small company manager, wanting to post his first job-advt, does not know, how to write a good "job-description". For such persons, referring to some other company's past job-advt for "copying" purpose, is a GREAT facilitator. For him, it is as easy as look-up a competitor's advt for a similar position, copy/paste, edit/submit. As simple as that! There will be constant/continuous refinement.

Our Advantage

Each such "Edited/submitted" advt. adds to our database archive.

Feature: "Resume Courier"

User Benefit

  • A jobseeker could pick-up email ID of employers (from their job-advt) from any source, such as:
    • Newspapers/Magazines (Ascent / Headstart / Your CV / Global Jobs / JAS etc.)
    • TV (in course of time)
    • Other jobsites
    • Corporate Websites etc. etc.
  • He has to simply enter all such email IDs (may be once-a-week, at a cybercafe), on any partner website of Global Recruiter on page titled "Resume Courier" & click submit. A kind of ONE STOP SHOP.

Our Benefit

  • This feature will encourage many jobseekers to "Register" on GR (i.e. any partner website of GR) – our resume database will grow.
  • In course of time, below each JAS printing, we will add "Courier your Resume using 'Resume Courier' service of IndiaRecruiter.net — FREE too".
  • Taking job info to millions thru JAS is no good, unless we also take/deliver their resumes to employers!

Feature: BenchMark

User Benefit

  • HR mgr. gets to find/view resumes which are very close match (relevant) to the resume of their own executive who has just resigned & replacement is required urgently.
  • Arranging in descending order of "Relevance" (like Google Search - PageRank algorithm), builds up trust/confidence/credibility, causing many "View-clicks"
  • Highly productive/efficient way of searching/shortlisting of relevant resumes

Our Advantage

  • This feature will set us apart/differentiate GR from all other jobsites. We will be in a CLASS by ourselves! No competition.
  • For comparing/shortlisting, no need for a "structured" resume database. Plaintext resumes will do—of which we have plenty + we can get plenty from Monster/Naukri.
  • This will impress Google/Yahoo.
  • Difficult to copy by Monster/Naukri.
  • Will generate many clicks because HR mgr. will keep transferring resumes from "Display" window to "BenchMark" window & click "RETRY"!

"Job Archive Search" for Jobseekers

  • Chronological
  • Company Wise
  • See enclosed U/I for both.
  • These (searches) will be on "Jobseeker" side of India Recruiter (and all other partner websites).
  • The idea came up, primarily to get search engine spiders to be able to index 5 lakh job-advts which we have downloaded so far (+ those which we continue to download—with 2 month gap). We hope, this will boost our pagerank/position on search engines.
  • Maybe each & every job-advt. should carry a link to WWJ.
  • We should not host this feature on WWJ—since we claim "WWJ is NOT a jobsite & does not offer jobsearch. WWJ makes jobsearching-online-obsolete."
  • LogIn (by jobseeker) required ONLY if he wants to "Apply online". All casual visitors should be able to try out the feature transparently to SEE how it works.

Subject: Simplified GuruAd — also known as (AKA) "Post Jobs — the Archival Way = short cut"

Notes:

  • Enclosed find pagewriteup & U/I.
  • Idea is to leverage our job-advt archive (database) to attract Corporate HR mgrs. to subscribe to partner websites.
  • Once again, any casual visitor should be able to tryout / test this feature, without requiring "Login".
  • REPOST button will not work if Login not done. A message will flash.
  • Ability to see/view one's own past job advts at ONE location is a tantalizing thought.
  • To be able to simply edit & repost an old/own advt. is very "productive".
  • Even a Company which has never posted any jobadvts in past (on any jobsite) and therefore, have no "database / archive" of its own, can also use this feature — by taking any other Company's Advt for the SAME POSITION & edit & REPOST! Many HR mgrs. will find this feature "irresistible" — especially those HR mgrs with poor conceptual/writing skills! — small companies too!

Post Jobs: Archival Way [the shortcut]

Dear Employer

This shortcut method of job posting is especially designed for you, if:

  • You recruit a large no. of employees every year (year after year).
  • Most of the positions/vacancies that you advertise are very similar to what you have advertised in the past (—with only minor changes).

Under such a situation, the fastest method (of job posting) would be to simply get hold of your old/similar job advt, edit it slightly and repost it. That’s all!

No need to fill-up a long/structured FORM, repeating a lot of "static" data.

You may ask:

Where can I find, at one place, all of my company's past job-advts, posted on major jobsites, arranged chronologically and "Position/Vacancy" wise?

Ans:

  • On this website (as also on all partner websites of Global Recruiter)
  • Searchable by Year/Month and by "Position", to find the "most similar" one.

Just "edit" online and "repost" with a click. And the edited Advt. gets added to your database, automatically! (P.S. You can edit, even your Competitor's Advt.!)
