Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

RESUME COURIER V.2.0 (SUBJECT LINE)

SUBJECT LINE — 28/01/06

(From Rahul → Ranav → Saurabh)

1️ Observations from Job Ads (AScent / IT Companies)

Two days ago, I studied several job ads in Ascent — mostly from IT companies — and found that most of them contain a specific instruction (usually at the bottom of the ad):

“Email your resume to ________, clearly mentioning in the Subject Line the position applied for (or Job Code), years of experience, city/location, etc.”

Occasionally, some ads also ask for mentioning Educational Qualification in the subject line.

2️ Purpose Behind These Instructions

The foremost purpose is to segregate and sort incoming email resumesposition-wise or vacancy-wise.

This is an important, time-saving step for large companies that:

  • Release multiple job ads simultaneously, and
  • Have several HR managers handling different functions or openings.

Hence, they want to ensure each HR manager receives only those resumes relevant to the vacancies they are handling — and not the entire bunch.

“A sensible thing to do.”

Subsequent Sorting Logic

Once each manager receives only the relevant resumes, the next step is to conduct finer sorting based on:

  • Years of experience
  • Educational qualification
  • City of residence

For big/reputed companies receiving thousands of resumes daily, such further sorting is essential to filter only those that truly meet the advertised criteria.

4️ Anticipating Intelligent Automation

“I would not be surprised if these companies carry out this sorting either:
• Using an army of data-entry operators (to key in the relevant values into a database), OR
• Through a very intelligent sorting software.”

Someday, we should develop such software and make it available to HR managers.

5️ Current Relevance to ImageBuilder

To some extent, ImageBuilder already enables HR managers to identify suitable resumes faster by providing:

  • Better-arranged data (experience, education, etc.)
  • Profile Graphs for visual clarity

Proposed Enhancement for “Resume Courier” Feature

Hemen Parekh proposes a new column in the Resume Courier system:

S.No

Advertiser’s Email ID

Subject Line Format

1

advertiser@company.com

e.g., JobCode / Position / Exp / Edu / City

2

With this, the system would ensure resumes automatically reach the concerned HR manager.

7️ Mandatory Rule for Candidates

“To ensure your resume reaches the concerned HR manager, type the Job Code, Position, Experience, Education, and City in the Subject Line — in bold capital letters. Without this, your resume may get rejected.”

Predictive Feature Proposal

Once this structured data flows into the Resume Courier backend, the Pattern Recognition module could track frequency distribution of candidate applications and deduce:

  • Candidate’s preferences
  • Most-applied-for positions
  • Regional hotspots

→ Allowing the system to recommend suitable jobs automatically.
