JOB ALERT / CANDIDATE ALERT
System changes
Kindly Study enclosed note.
As soon as you are ready, I would
like to discuss this note with you / Mr. Nagle / our consultants to arrive at
final SYSTEM SPECS.
I would like to implement this as
urgently as possible.

ISSUE
- We are not getting either enough resumes or enough
job-advts on our website.
POSSIBLE REASONS
- Our resume-forms & our job-advt forms are too
long and/or too complicated.
- Our forms take too long to download.
- We have not adequately publicised our web-based
"match-making" capabilities amongst Corporates &
job-seekers.
- Our job-alert / candidate-alert messages are not
clear enough.
- Our job-alert / candidate-alert messages require
the jobseeker / recruiter to comeback & log into our website in order
to see / view.
- Our business-model hides the identity of:
- jobseeker from recruiter
- recruiter from jobseeker
- Our "Professional Fees" are not clear /
transparent UP-FRONT, on website.
Only deep-down, a small / vague
writeup is lying hidden.
In absence of total clarity of
what they would end-up "paying to us, the jobseekers & recruiters may
be hesitating to submit resumes / job-advts on our website.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
Whereas each of these issues will
need to be separately analysed – and addressed, in depth, I want to first – and
foremost – take up the issue of PUBLICITY.
For want of enough funds, we are
unable to launch a major publicity campaign in PRINT media.
For this reason, we have adopted
the strategy of NETWORKING / ALLIANCES.
We are in the process of forming
alliances with,
- Websites (Incl. Portals / Search-Engines)
- Colleges.
- Compu. Edu. Inst. (NACT Members)
- Placement Agencies
- Cyber-cafes
- S. Kumars. Com. Ltd.
- ISPS
- Cable TV Channels
- Cable TV Operators
- Virtual Colleges / Universities.
- S.W. calibre / Boston / IT-crunch etc.
Someday we would extend these to
- Print Media (Newspapers & Magazines)
- Employer Organisations (e.g. NASSCOM / MAIT / CII /
FICCI / NIPM etc.)
- Websites of Employer Corporations
- PC Manufacturers
- Telephone Companies
We are about to re-launch our MASS-MAILING
CAMPAIGN to both
- Active Jobseekers
- Passive Jobseekers
- Employer Corporations
- NACT Members etc.
We are also examining the
possibility of employing
SPIDERS / SOFTWARE ROBOTS
which can visit thousands of
jobsites and download resumes / job-advts onto
- our local harddisk
- our website itself (Ideal).
Here, we could consider taking
help of www.ezeenet.com (Mr. Atish Dedhia) who visited us in
early 1999.
One solution which I would like
to Immediately Implement is VIRAL MARKETING.
My plan consists of
- Get hold of 3/4 data-entry Vendors
- Get each of them to enter and upload on our
website, 100 / 150 job-advts, picked-up from various newspaper /
magazines.
- To begin with these will be only IT – Industry
job-advts.
- Target to upload 500 job-advts per day (15000
per month).
- Such job-advts. may even be picked-up from other
job-sites, if possible / convenient.
- Once this process picks-up speed, gradually start
deleting old advts. (Chronologically) from our website.
- Once we reach an uploading rate (of fresh advts) of
500 / day, we must ensure that no job-advt remains "live"
for more than 30 days.
- Although we will not reveal the identity of the
advertising Company to the job-seekers, we must display
- Source (Media) Name
- Date of Advt.
This will assure the jobseekers
that we are not uploading "fictitious" advts.
- Data-entry Vendors should be able to enter these
job-advts OFF-LINE and then upload all, at one go, at the end of
the day.
This requirement is very
Critical.
- Job-Advt must carry the unique "code"
of the Data-entry Vendor (which gets linked with each advt. no generated),
so that we know whom to pay for which job-advt.
Vendor-wise / date wise /
month wise / publication – wise / Corporate advertiser Name – wise / position
wise / function – wise / Industry – wise / Desig. level wise / Edu. Quali. wise
/ Age wise / city wise / Country – wise / Salary – wise
etc etc
Statistics must be generated
- Vendor – wise
- Totally / cumulative
- Any period – wise
- All 3 Categories of job-advt. Wise (Directly Posted
/ Hot Jobs / Print media)
WHY THIS
"SUB-CONTRACT" approach to building-up of JOB-ADVT DATABASE ?
Reasons
- Educating employers to come / post their job-advts
on our site is a slow-process, requiring
- Costly print-advts
- repeated mass-mailing to 14000 Ltd. companies
This "educating"
will take years before bearing fruits.
- Capable Software-robots (Spiders) which will
serve our purpose are no where in sight, & and when available, these
will be quite expensive.
- Sub-contracting will be
- relatively cheap
- fast
- can be implemented quickly
How – and where – does VIRAL
MARKETING come into picture?
Logic
- The more the no. of job-advts on our website, the
more the no. of "job-alerts" (emails) going out to candidates
registered on our website.
- If only 5% of candidates get job-alerts, the
word-of-mouth (or even "TELL A FRIEND") message that will
go out is
"Don't waste your time to
submit resume on 3pjobs.com. NO good. It is "apply, apply, no reply!""
Messages, such as these could
permanently damage the reputation of our website.
- NOW, suppose, 90% of the candidates get a
job-alert. The electrifying message that would spread around with
lightening speed, would be,
"You want a job, go to
3P. You will get a job-alert within hours of submitting your resume on their
website. Absolutely Surefire. Don't waste your time submitting resume at any
other website." "For a 10 minute, one-time effort, you will
get jobs delivered at your door-step for the rest of your life. They are real
COOL!"
- If 9000 jobseekers send out such a message
to 10 friends each, that is 90,000 and, in turn, when they
send out to another 10 friends each, that becomes 900,000
That is VIRAL MARKETING !
And, we must make this happen
amongst
1.2 million Software Pros
of 400 Compu. Edu. Institutes (NACT Members).
If the first 5000 NACT
Students (who are expected to submit their resume on our website, during
next 6 / 8 weeks) do NOT get a job-alert WITHIN HOURS,
then we have lost the battle!
But if they do, we can expect a MILLION
resumes in the next 6 months!!
But, what good are a MILLION
resumes on our website, if the CORPORATES (the job-advertisers) do NOT
get any CANDIDATE ALERT?
Absolutely, no good!
It becomes "good",
only if 14000, out of the 15000 job-advts, which we plan to
upload on our website, get a CANDIDATE ALERT.
If each of these Corporate
(advertiser)
gets a Candidate-alert, EVERYDAY
saying,
"Sir, HOME-DELIVERY
- You recently advertised a position/vacancy in
print-media as per
ADVT NO: ___________
(attached)
- We uploaded it on our website and made it
"accessible" (thru an automatic job-alert e-mail) to thousands
of jobseekers registered with us.
- From amongst these, the number of jobseekers whose
profile match your job-requirement, is
- Would you like to see / view their resumes? If so,
just CLICK.
- But then, hundreds of new jobseekers, keep
submitting their resumes on our website everyday.
We will ensure that each time/
everytime, a resume matching your
job-requirement gets posted on our website, you will get from us, such a CANDIDATE
ALERT
- This service to you is FREE. Only if you
wish to interview – and then appoint – one of our candidates, you need to
pay us.
click here to see our PROFESSIONAL
FEES
- If this communication comes to you thru snail-mail
(ordinary post), then it means, we could not find your E-MAIL ADDRESS
in the job-advt. which we picked up from newspaper / magazine.
This (snail-mail) is a terribly
slow process.
Why not, rush us your email
address, quoting the ADVT. NO. mentioned above. We will enter it in our
database so that
you will receive all future CANDIDATE-ALERTS,
directly by email?
- Before long, we plan to send you these CANDIDATE-ALERTS
as short-messages over your MOBILE PHONE NO, no matter where you
happen to be ANYTIME / ANYWHERE
So, please do send us your Mobile
Phone No.
With such a HOME-DELIVERY,
you have, now, an opportunity to revolutionize your recruitment process.
If timely / speedy recruitment is
your KEY RESULT AREA (KRA), you may want to start POST YOUR JOB-ADVT
/ CANDIDATE ALERT on our website, without waiting for us to pick it up from
newspapers.
When you do, you have scored an
advantage over your competitors!
With regards.
FUNCTIONALITIES expected
of modified job-alert / candidate-alert system
- Unification of all 3 types of Job-Advt posting VIZ:
- Direct by Corporates (Online)
- Hot Jobs by 3P (Offline &
Upload)
- Advt. jobs in Print-media (Offline entry by
Vendors & Then uploading by 3P)

- As far as jobseekers (who have submitted their
resumes on our website) are concerned, they would get "JOB-ALERTS"
for all 3 types of jobs.
- As far as "CANDIDATE-ALERTS" are
concerned, the scenario will be as follows:
- For "HOT JOBS" only concerned
consultant of 3P will get the alert.
- As far as "Directly Posted Jobs"
are concerned, Candidate-Alert will go directly to the concerned
Advertiser.
- As far as Job-Advts picked up, (then uploaded)
from Print-media is concerned, following should happen:
- If job-advt carried advertiser's email address
(which got entered by Data-entry Vendor), then the Candidate Alert
should directly go to that advertiser as email.
- If the job-advt did NOT have an email
address, the Candidate-alert will come to one person in 3P (as email)
which he will print out & post to the advertiser. Address label
should get printed automatically.
- Once print-media job-advertiser sends his email
address (as requested in Candidate Alert), a 3P staffer should be
able to upload / enter it in our server-based database (in that particular
job-advt.), so that, thereafter all future Candidate Alerts can go
directly to the advertiser.
- There should be facility to add MOBILE PHONE NO.
of print-media job-advertiser (if he communicates the same to us later on,
as requested in our alert-letter) in the database.
- In future this would enable us to deliver Candidate-alerts
over mobile phone (SMS).
- Print Media Advts
- There should be a possibility to delete it
altogether. Some job-advertiser may not like what we are doing and may
want us to:
- delete this job-advt.
- refrain in future for all of his jobs released
in newspapers
- we have to create "OUT-OF-BOUNDS"
list, so we don't get firing-letters!
statistics
Besides "statistics"
(mentioned on p=6) we should have following counters on appropriate pages of
our website:
|
ATTN: JOBSEEKERS |
Last 24 Hours sent out |
So far total |
|
NO. of "Job Alerts" |
[ ] |
[ ] |
|
ATTN: RECRUITERS |
Last 24 Hours sent out |
So far total |
|
NO. of "Candidate
Alerts" |
[ ] |
[ ] |
These would serve as powerful
magnets. This is our USP. We have to work towards a "self
fulfilling prophesy".

POST SCRIPT
I feel one of the reasons (for
poor no. of directly posted job-advts by corporates) could be that
- We are asking too many questions (fields) which the
advertiser does not see / feel have any relevance to the job-advt.
- In block "Executives", we are
asking Name / Desig. of Chief Executive
- Entire block on "Corporate Profile"
I feel, we should delete these
from here and incorporate the same in a separate (proposed) feature /
functionality called
CORPORATE PROFILE
- Submit your company profile.
- Edit your " "
This would be a User ID /
Password protected area, which a Corporate Manager (not necessarily HR
Mgr) can access where he can see, e.g.
- all past job-advts. posted by him
- all shopping baskets sent by him
- all Purchase Orders placed by him

This note is a
"corollary" to my note of even date on the subject of "Job
Alert / Candidate Alert Modification"
Pl. see enclosed (Annex: A). It
is a list of websites which provide "free" content to other
websites.
This is in the form of streamers
/ banners / headlines (fade-in / fade-out) rolling images etc. etc. on a wide
variety of subjects.
When you click on any of these,
it takes you to the "DONOR" website. So, ultimate idea is to
drive traffic to the "donor".
Still many websites go for this
(knowing fully well that the surfer will soon quit & go out of their own
website)
Reason:
- The content is absolutely free
- They don't have to spend "lakhs" to
develop / generate "content" on their own.
- It takes only a few minutes to "look-up"
for any specific content from
We too can exploit this
phenomenal business-model / this urge on the part of other websites by
providing them (from our own website) JOB ADVTS DISPLAYS.
We are, in any case, planning to
sub-contract / create 15000 job-advts every month (picked-up from print)
with the help of Vendors.
We are going to use this content
for sending-out JOB-ALERTS to thousands of our "members".
Now, suppose we provide this CONTENT
to
- Our partner Websites
- " " Cybercafes
- " " S. Kumar franchisees
And
- 700 small / local / regional NEWSPAPERS
And we supply it FREE!
Suppose, I enroll some of these
small newspapers as partners and give them User I.D / Password.
They login and click on "COMPOSE
YOUR OWN JOB-ADVT PAGE" (to beat "ASCENT" / "HEAD
START" / "AVENUES" etc. etc. – at no cost!).

We should make this an HTML
page which our partner website could straight away post on its own
website.
They can prepare & post a new
page (with new positions) as often as they wish!
This is like changing the WINDOW-DISPLAY
in the window of your show-room!
except, on your website, you can
change such display every hour! – if you wish.
Perhaps such "HOURLY
CHANGE" can even be automated!! No human intervention.
We should put-up and
automatically change such a page on our own website.
Without a Window-display,
no store can hope to attract "buyers". To make them "walk-in"
our store & explore, we must give them a "glimpse" of what
they would find inside!
With such a facility, even our CYBER-CAFE
partner, could take out a colour printout every morning & display it
prominently, next to his
computers (on the walls, even in
his shop-window!).
After all, he has to convince his
customers to come in & surf for an hour. We must help him in "selling"
his "cybercafe" in his locality. He may even print-out several
copies of this page & paste these on all the lamp-posts on his road (or on
all the walls of all the buildings).
Or, if he is very enterprising he
may even strike a deal with the chairmen / secretaries of all Corp. Hsg.
Societies to permit him to display these pages on the society notice boards!
NOW imagine, our being
able to convince 50,000 franchisees of S. Kumars to print such pages and
display in their cybercafes in 3000 cities / towns!
Shall we take this up together
with our JOB ALERT / CANDIDATE ALERT system change?

In this connection I enclose a

note following:

According to Mr. Arora, I-W@ can
also enable portals to provide their content to legacy mobile phones (i.e.
plain/ordinary & not WAP), "independent of mobile operators".
This is simply GREAT!
This means we do NOT have
to be dependent upon (tying-up with) ORANGE or BPL or anyone else! And we can
still deliver short messages on Candidate's / Recruiter's mobiles like,
"Login www.3pjobs.com and retrieve your matching job /
Candidate"
(4)
I would request you to quickly
discuss this with Cyril (the precise mechanism of what exactly jobseeker /
recruiter should DO, after getting such message, to be able to
see/view).
I would request you to
incorporate this feature in NEXT PHASE. In the meantime, can you pl.

Lifetree offers mobile Net
access on non-WAP phones
Neeraja Kumar in New Delhi
THE much-hyped WAP hasn't quite
lived up to the expectations. But there is hope yet. Delhi-based Lifetree
Cyberworks has come up with a solution for people wanting mobile access to the
Internet on non-WAP phones.
The company has developed
software tools which can provide Internet access to non-WAP mobile phones,
using the short message service (SMS). The tool, when installed by the mobile
service operator, picks up HTML tags from a Website and converts them into smaller
WML tags to make its own WML site. The content of this site, can be retrieved
by mobile phones through SMS.

Usage is expensive for the

According to the chief operating
officer of Lifetree Cyberworks, Sandeep Arora, the solution which has been
named I-W@ (pronounced as I-wa), can be deployed by mobile service
operators, Internet portals and corporate Intranets to provide Internet
connectivity to normal mobile phone users. The solution, has an in-built
intelligent Interpreter, which assigns easy to use interactive menu options,
just like in a WAP phone, he explains.
According to Mr Arora, I-W@ can
also enable portals to provide their content to legacy mobile phones,
independent of mobile operators. This means, that even if your local mobile
operator has not I-W@ enabled the network, mobile users from all over the
country can still access any site that has installed, the I-W@ software. This
solution can also integrate seamlessly with WAP-enabled portals, to provide the
same content on a legacy mobile phone, he added.
Since SMS works on packet
switching technology (the data is transmitted in packets), I-W@ can access
information at a much faster rate than WAP claimed Mr Arora. It also works out
to be cheaper, he added. WAP subscribers pay at least Rs 4 per minute as airtime
cost, over and above the WAP subscription fee. However, SMS based I-W@ costs
only Rs 1.50 per message. On the flip side, however, users have to send
messages each time they need to access an option.
Also since I-W@ works on the
existing infrastructure of the mobile operator, it is inexpensive for the
mobile operator to install and run, as compared to WAP, he added.
I-W@ also has an advantage over
WAP when it comes to selecting options. While on the WAP phone, you have to
necessarily scroll through the entire menu to select the option of your choice,
in I-W@ if you know the right option, you can access it directly informs Mr
Arora. (Continued on Page II)

UPSET! WE STILL HAVE CHANCE TO HACK...
The FM channels will be able to
network through the satellites, says Mr Awasthi.
Since it's a 24-hour channel with
news in several areas including current affairs, lifestyle, politics, health,
medicine, music, culture, sports, finance, etc, AIR is talking to several
content providers to be able to offer the best, according to Mr Awasthi.
On whether these content
providers would include those who have defaulted in the private FM operators'
bid, Mr Awasthi says: "We'll have to study the content providing
arrangement (cont.)."
...ing at big players such as
Zee. "We are focusing on small producers who've done good work for us
before." However, right now, it's an open game as far as tie-ups for
content is concerned.
Although no tie-up has been
finalised yet for providing content to AIR FM, Mr Awasthi says: "We would
like to have the tie-ups in place before we begin."
He adds: "We want to start
well." And for a good beginning, AIR is also considering an arrangement
with BBC, whereby the two broadcasters can share content. But, even if content
sharing doesn't work, AIR will ask BBC for its programmes. "Maybe BBC
could give our people some hands-on training," he says.
Beginning the FM venture with an
investment of Rs 10 crore, which will sustain it till March 2001, the next
budgeting will happen thereafter. On revenue generation plans, he says:
"We hope to make money out of FM. But can't say as to when and how we'll
break even."
Right now, the only thing that
AIR is sure about is that its FM channels will be informal, trendy and lively.
Complete with American-style breakfast show called 'Hello India'. Remember the
mini-skirt theory?
DoT to bar HFCL from next
round (Continued from Page 1)
DoT moved the division bench of
the court on appeal and the case is still pending before the bench. Industry
sources said HFCL is not very keen on reviving the licences as it comes with a
huge licence fee and have been riddled with controversies from the beginning.
The company is not looking forward to participate in the next round of bidding
and win some lucrative circles.
Moreover, HFCL is also upbeat
over the fact that the fixed phone service has been thrown open for unlimited
competition by the government early this year and accordingly any number of
players can be accommodated in each circle.

Lifetree has developed AutoWap

AutoWap is the sole tool required to WAP enable the site. No WAP developers are

Placement Agencies
I went thru the write-up (which I
gave you and you have uploaded) once again, "placing myself in the
position of a Placement Agency". The following questions came to my
mind:
- How do I submit / upload resumes?
- How do I, subsequently verify that, in reality,
these have actually got uploaded?
- How can I check for myself (independent of your
assurance) that name / contact info. is NOT visible to a recruiter
when he views short display / long display?
- Can I see how these (resumes) will appear / look,
thru a "PREVIEW" button?
- What do I have to do, to "edit"
these resumes?
- What will happen when I enter my USER ID /
Password in the (ALLIES LOGIN)? What
page it will take me to? What
will I find on that page?
- When I upload a resume, how can I be sure that it
is "registered / recorded" against my name?
- How can I be sure that 3P will not contact
"my candidate" directly, bypassing me? Can I leave "Contact
Info" blocks blank while entering the resume?
I feel we need to incorporate in
our write-up, the answers to these questions. In the following pages, I have
tried to do this to the best of my understanding of how your software-design
works. If, I am wrong / inaccurate in any of these answers, I request you to
modify / correct the same before uploading on the "Placement Agencies"
page.
Q.1. How do I upload /
submit resumes?
Ans. 1.
Step #1 $\rightarrow$ On the
homepage,
in the $\text{[ALLIES]}$ log-in
box, enter your Username & Password & click on $\text{[GO]}$.
The page which will open, has
following links:
- Submit Resume (Placement Agency)
- Edit Resume (Placement Agency)
- View your statistics (All type of Allies)
- Select Industry / Function (only for partner
websites).
When you click on "Submit
Resume" you will see following links:
- IT Professionals
- Non-IT Professionals
- Fresh Graduates
- College Students
Depending upon which type of
resume you wish to upload, click on the relevant link. This will open-up the
concerned
"Submit Resume"
Form
NOW start typing-in the
data.
Q. How do I subsequently
verify that, in reality, the resumes which I entered, have actually got
uploaded?
Ans.
Britam to supply correct answer
for this.
Q: How can I check for
myself (independent of your assurance) that the name / contact info. of the
job-seeker is NOT visible to a recruiter when he views short display /
long display?
Ans: On your own conduct a
"mock" resume-search on our website. Enter exactly the SAME
search-parameters (Search-criteria) as those of YOUR candidate. If done
carefully, he/she is bound to get shortlisted by our search-engine.
Thereafter, when the "short-display"
appears (upon clicking "Submit" button), you will find that
the name / contact info for all candidates gets replaced by Permanent
Executive No. (PEN).
By clicking on this PEN,
you will get to see the full-resume of the Candidate. Once again you will find
that the name / contact info. is not revealed.
To be 100% sure, click on
the PREVIEW button after entering the resume. Then you know for sure
what an online recruiter gets to see on our website.
Q. What do I have to do to
edit the resumes submitted / uploaded by me?
Ans: As mentioned earlier,
after logging-in thru the $\text{[ALLIES]}$ box on the homepage, click on link
Edit Resume (Placement Agency)
It will take you to a page with
following tabulation:
|
Date of Entry |
PEN |
First Name |
Last Name |
Member Type |
|
[ ] |
||||
|
[ ] |
Now click on the PEN
concerned and it will open-up that resume. Then go ahead and change whatever
info / data you want changed.
Q. What will happen when I enter
my User ID / Password in the $\text{[ALLIES]}$ log-in?
What page will it take me to?
What will I find on that page.
Ans: same ans. as for Q.1
Q. When I upload a resume, how
can I be sure that it is "registered / recorded" against my name?
Ans: By clicking on link
"View Your Statistics"
you will be able to see daily /
monthly details of each & every resume that YOU ever submitted, along with
PEN of each candidate.
$\triangleright$ How can I be
sure that –
Ans:
While filling-in (typing-in) the
"submit Resume" form, you should fill-in, in the "Contact
Info" box,
– your own address/phone no. /
email etc. $\text{+}$
This will ensure that if &
when your candidate gets shortlisted by an online recruiter (or by us, during
an offline search), there is no way we could contact him / her directly!

Can you anticipate any more
questions?

Our success is directly linked to
the no. of resumes & no. of job-advts on our website.
For a long time, I have thought
of / desired a software-spider that can go / visit all kinds of jobsites on the
web (to begin with Indian jobsites) and download resumes / job-advts.
Mr. Atish Dedhia
(www.ezeenet.com) does exactly this, aggregate the job-advts from hundreds of
CORPORATE WEBSITES (with their prior permission), aggregate these in a common
database structure and supply (as a service-provider) to monster.com /
https://www.google.com/search?q=careermosaic.com etc.. He will not
"sell" this software to us.
When Nimit visited "World
Conference of Internet Recruiters" in New York some 3/4 months back, he
came across several companies, selling such a "tailor-made" software,
meant for "jobsites". I have forwarded to Mr. Nagle, literature of
one such software.
A couple of days back, I came
across availability of a similar Software, on www.lexibot.com, which costs $
90/-.
As discussed this morning, pl.
download 30-day "free trial" version & rigorously
test it for downloading
IT-related job-advts (first priority) and IT-related resumes (second priority)
– start with Indian jobsites (a list of which I have sent to Abhi). Then move
on to USA websites.
I would like you to give me daily
feedback so that we can learn / decide how to go about on longterm basis.
In enclosed chart, I have tried
to describe various scenarios, where different levels of "benefits"
accrue.

Order Execution System (OES)
Applitech people will be here for
a meeting on Thursday ($22^{nd}$) at 10 am for a discussion on OES. Mr. Nagle
& Anagha (from VXceed) will remain present. Yourself, Vinod & Abhi
should also participate in this discussion.
Primary responsibility for
implementation of OES is yours. Therefore, you must study all OES
related documents & be ready with your questions (if any) on Thursday. A
few days back, Anagha had sent an email to Neeraj Rathi of Applitech. I
have asked Sunita to forward it to you also.
In OES, there are 20+ input
screens. Have you figured out which screen has to be entered by whom?
Unless you figure this out – and
fix responsibilities of each & every of our staff member in advance,
everybody will think, someone else will "take care"! – with no one
taking care!!
Not only you should fix this
responsibility in writing but you should also monitor it.

Magic Cube Search
Last week, Nimit tried to
demonstrate our Magic Cube search to a party in New York.
It just did not work! After
clicking on the cell, the short-display just did not appear! It was very very
embarrassing.
Then I decided to try it this
morning. I enclose my findings.
I feel there is something
seriously wrong either with our server or with our software or with both.
The norm on the WWW is:
– no surfer will stick around for
more than 6 seconds for a page to download.
This morning I could not even
log-into $\text{[ALLIES]}$ log-in after waiting for 4 minutes!
This requires your URGENT
attention.

Website
Yesterday I quickly went thru our
website and found that you have added "Counters" below:
No. of Resumes On this Site
It would look much better if
these are "boxed" as shown above. Then these would truly look like
counters – as on a petrol pump.
I suppose these counters
"charge / rotate / go-up" everytime a new resume gets posted (I mean,
we should not have to update the Counters thru manual intervention – as we were
doing 2 years back!).
Please confirm that the Counters
below "IT Exec. Search" & "Non-IT Exec. Search" display
only relevant resumes (and not all resumes).
You will recall that in one of my
earlier notes, I had requested.
that these counters should also
appear at the bottom of the "POST YOUR JOB ADVT." page.
Reason?
By doing this, we are trying to
induce the "Recruiter" to ALSO conduct a resume-search while he is on
our website.
I have also seen that you have
put-up the "Message" below the Counters. Should we not elaborate the
message to explain why "other" also appears again as
"Others" because of differences in spelling?
On our website, we should try our
best to remove, at least "apparent" contradictions!
I also draw your attention to my
notes dated:
- NOV. 9
- NOV. 10
- NOV. 13
- NOV. 15
- NOV. 16
- NOV. 17
(3)
In these notes, I had suggested a
few things (mostly related to adding a few words in the title-bars)
I find that these have still to
be implemented. I would request you to carry-out as soon as possible.
Since Search-engine spiders index
/ rank websites based on what words they find in these locations, it is VERY
VERY IMPORTANT to insert these "relevant keywords" in the titlebars.
Insertion of these will vastly improve the ranking of our website.
When we met last, you said Cyril
has already asked you to prepare time / cost estimate of further revision of
our website based on my email (dt: Nov. 4) to him – a copy of which was also
sent to you. Are you ready?

- Institute of Electrical Engineers

Such Institutes right in Lok Bharti complex

of A-1 (or A/2) Bldg !!
$\textcircled{4}$ Most of the
info/data asked for in enclosed form are already available in our RESUME forms.
So,
All that we need to add at the
bottom of the "SUBMIT RESUME" form is a block like:
$\text{\fbox{}}$ I am a Member of
$\text{\fbox{}}$ Please enroll me
as Member of
3/5
$\textcircled{5}$ Then we can
"extract" bare minimum detail info about that person from the Resume
Form and pass-on (as email) to the Secretary of the Concerned Institution as a
FREE Service !
In return, we can ask that on all
letterheads of that Institution, they print
$\textcircled{6}$ we can provide
for "Editing" of Member's Data also.
$\textcircled{7}$ Alternatively,
we can ask each Institute
4/5
to give us its OWN / UNIQUE form
which we upload / host on our website, for surfers to fill-in online.
we can even make it downloadable
& filled-offline.
$\textcircled{8}$ we pass-on to
the Concerned Institute (once a-week) the DATABASE created
$\textcircled{9}$ Also give them
a "Search-Engine" whereby they can search this data in a no. of
different "ways" offline, in their own office. They can even print
labels.
$\textcircled{10}$ As far as we
are concerned, we simply "extract" data relevant
5/5
to us & migrate it to our
MODULE 1 (NON-MEMBER DATABASE).
This would help us in offline
"headhunting".
The Institute benefits & we
too benefit !

Website Revision
Further to our meeting in your
office yesterday, I enclose a file containing our requirements in broad terms.
After Mustafa (Britam) / yourself
had a chance to study the same; I will, tomorrow, spend the whole day in your
office, when your team can ask me clarifications.
After these interactions, the
first thing to do for your team, will be to prepare an exhaustive / detailed
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENT
DOCUMENT
This should be far more detailed
than the one prepared last time.
It should include:
- Search parameter Page design
- Short Display "
- Long " "
- Magic Cube " (Prelim) design (where reqd).
- Home Page (Prelim) design
- Various Input forms (Resume Forms / Job Advt. forms

I enclose, two documents
submitted by them, after several rounds of meetings with our Consultants:

$\textcircled{2}$ FUNCTIONAL
SPECIFICATIONS (Input screen)
These "preliminary"
documentation gave us an opportunity,

whether they have correctly understood our requirements
$\triangleright$ whether there
was something we had overlooked in our specifications
I am sure, this time around, your
team will come-up with far more comprehensive document, so that, once signed by
both the parties, the "scope of work" gets frozen and your team can
work uninterrupted.

As far as text write-ups (HTML
pages) are concerned, I will give you these after you finalize & show me
the design of each page.
As for "Cost", I
request you to break-up the entire project in 3 phases:
Phase I $\rightarrow$ High

Phase II $\rightarrow$ Medium

Phase III $\rightarrow$ Low

Module I
Yesterday, you mentioned that
Anagha will start on this immediately (from yesterday itself) and complete this
task within 2 weeks (i.e. by 21st Feb). I request you to adhere to this
strictly.
Any delay will seriously affect
