Deepa – Vikram – Abhi                                                                                                                                  7/5/2004

AT THE COST OF REPITITON

·         “ENTRY-LEVEL” JOBS

In this case, “job-mining” will be simply reduced to extracting

“ACTUL VACANCY/POSITION – NAMES” from Advts.

And then matching with a predetermined (but expandable) list/table of some 150/200 entry-level jobs ( I have given some to Deepa)

If there is a match, that advt. would get classified as “Entry level Job-Advt”.

For such advts., theoretically, there is no need to extract/determine

·         Industry-Name

·         Function

·         Designation-Level

But may be we cannot help extracting these “Unwanted” details, because we cannot build a special/separate “JobMiner” for “Entry-Level” Jobs only!

We have only ONE jobminer!

Unless, of course, we make the jobminer to work/operate as follows:

#1          Extract “Actual Position/Vacancy Name”

#2         Match with list of 150/200 entry-level job-names

#3          If match found, Segregate these job-advts in a bin called (E) (for Entry-level jobs). No further

processing on this bin except extracting of “CITY” & “COUNTRY”

#4       Transfer “un-matched” job-advts to a bin called (F)

#5        Get jobminer to work on/process, bin (F), to extract other fields, Such as

·         City/Country

·         Function

·         Industry Name (From “Company Name” mapping)

·         Designation-Level

·         Age (max)

·         Exp (min)

·         Edu. Qualifications

·         Keywords (skills)

#6        Create database tables

Employing GURUMINE logic/concept into JOBMINE, we should face little difficulty in extracting all the above-mentioned “fields”, except

                            INDUSTRY – NAME

For any given job-advt, “Industry-Name” will have to be found/allotted as follows:

(# 1)         JobMiner extracts “Company-Name”

(#2)          This “Company-Name” is matched with 6.3 Lakh Companies listed in DCA CD

                                                                                                           (COMPANY NAME TABALE)

Along with the full text of job-advt, place this Company Name into a tool where HCP can allot it, one of the 51 Industry-Names. Reading full job-advt (or clicking on URL of that Company’s website) will tell me enough about that company, to decide which “INDUSTRY” it belongs to.

Allot one of the 51 “Industry-Names” mapped by HCP using tool developed by Vikram

(B)

No match

In case of (B),

(#3)         Add this NEW Company in the COMPANY-NAME TABLE along with, Industry-Name allotted by HCP.

AT this stage, my assumption is,

“Most of the Companies posting job-advts on Indian jobsites must be INDIAN Companies and must have been covered by DCA CD of 6.3 Lakh Companies”.

From some 50000/60,000 job-advts., we have extracted some 15300 company-names.

Next thing to find out is

“How many of these 15300 are covered by DCA CD ? ”

Obviously, for all those covered by DCA CD, we can allot appropriate “INDUSTRY-NAME” (one of the 51, which, I have given to all 6.3 Lakhs Companies)

I assume 90% - 95% must be covered. Remaining 5% - 10% can be loaded in new tool (Industry-Name Allotment Tool), along with full job-advt text. It will take me a few days to do this.

Of Course, the real problem we will face, will be in respect of

AMERICAN Job-Advts / American Companies

Here, we do not have anything (any database) like our DCA CD.

But I am sure, such a CD/database does exist – may be even, on Internet/WWW.

Either American Govt or Seme professional trade body in U.S.A. must have compiled such a database, listing companies and their “Industry-Classifications”. Afterall, American Industries are the most “Database/Statistics” Conscious, in entire world.

Deepa must “research” on the net and locate this, so that we can quickly “map” even the American Companies against our 51 Industry-Names.

                                                                                                                                                                Hemen Parekh

P.S.             Although, I have, in my past notes, stated that, “CITY/COUNTRY” does not matter for

“ENTRY-LEVEL” Jobs, I am having second thoughts on the Subject.

At this stage, I feel, we should allow FRESH GRADUATES/College Students, to select

“CITIES/COUNTRIES” where they wish to work.

This becomes relevant, when we say that for this group of jobseekers, we would present

                  ENTRY-LEVEL AMERICAN JOBS as well.

Now, if I am a “programmer” or a “Male Nurse”, I may like to Select

Of Course, I am not suggesting that we link the “Position” with “Country” Once he select any Country, then all those “Positions” which he has ticked he will get job-alert.

While one the Subject of “ENTRY-LEVEL” job-alerts to be used for generating millions of “Apply Online” Clicks, from lakhs of unemployed graduates,

Question arises,

“How many job-alerts should we send to an unemployed subscriber of JAM everyday?”

Suppose he has chosen 20 entry-level positions in which he is interested, and also chosen

ü

ü

INDIA

UK

Then,

           Do we DAILY send him

20 positions X 3 Countries X 10 alert/day

= 600 alerts / day ?

This is clearly unworkable ! – considering that we intend to lure lakhs (if not millions) of unemployed graduates to become JAM subscribers.

Any clever Suggestions ?

Jobseeker.com

-          We had thought of this URL for our sister-site (to RecruitGuru). It is not available.

This morning I looked-up availability of interesting/significant URL’s and came up with enclosed list. The better-sounding ones are all taken.

But, amongst those available, I like best

Ø  World-wide-jobs.com

Ø  World-jobs.com                       (next best)

This is because:

Ø  For jobseekers to feel curious/interested in a website, the word “jobs” has to be present in the URL.

In India, we have

·         JobsAhead

·         Jobstreet

·         Jobsab

·         Naukri (hindi for “job”)

·         3pjobs

·         Hotjobs (USA)

·         Jobbex  (USA)

·         Jobboard (USA)

Ø  For a great majority of Indian jobseekers, word “Career” has none/little significance. “Job” is what is understandable/Sought after across the length & breadth of country.

“Job” is Synonymous with ROTI-KAPADA-MAKAN-MARRIAGE ! Naukri is even better understood, but a little “derogatory/demeaning” -implying low level clerical / blue-collar jobs !

Ø  Our sister-site will be an AGGREGATOR/CONSOLIDATOR/COMILER of jobs from all over, starting with India-based jobs & gradually expanding to cover jobs from those Countries where Indians like to go, viz

à  Gulf

à  South East Asia

à  USA

à  Europe.

In short, we want our new Site to become, a

                                                                                ONE STOP SHOPPING

When it comes to searching/hunting for jobs !

We have already compiled (downloaded) over 160,000 jobs so far (from Naukri/Monster) and continuing to download 5000/day. As soon as Abhi locates/develop a web-spider, We could download 20,000 job-advts/day & Vittal can be free for other interesting work.

Ø  Why do we need to build-up a job-advt. database of 5 lakh advts?

Ans:

Ø  No india jobsite has such a large job-advt database – individually.

Ø  Monster/Naukri/Jobs Ahead will never think of downloading job advts. From each other’s websites ! That would be worse than suicide !!

Ø  So in the absence of an AGGREGATOR website (like www.directemployers.com in America), Indian jobseekers, are forced to visit all the major jobsites – and that too daily-. There is no “ONE STOP SHOP” available to Indian jobseekers.

Ø  If some Indian jobsite were to become such a “ONE STOP SHOP”, I think, jobseekers, in future, will only visit that jobsite & no other ! If they can find ALL jobs advertised on Monster/Naukri/Jobs Ahead/Jobstreet etc. on

                                                                                        www.world-wide-jobs.com

then, why on earth, should they want to visit each of these sites?

Ø  Since

                                     www.world-wide-jobs.com

would, be, by nature, an “Aggregator” only, it would not have any EGO/PRESTIGE issue about downloading advts from any no. of jobsites & displaying.

We would be doing a great SOCIAL SERVICE to jobseekers ! – FREE

We would be doing a great COMMERCIAL SERVICE to employers, too ! – FREE

Both should love such a FREE SERVICE.

Ø  Monster/Naukri/Jobs Ahead etc. Cannot object (to our downloading – aggregating- & permitting Search by jobseekers & permitting online Apply by jobseekers) either.

We are doing a great service to them as well !

And all info (job-advts) which we are downloading is PUBLIC DOMAIN !

And we are republishing without any change/modification !

And we are giving credit (displaying employer name/email ID + SOURCE too), We are on safe legal ground.

But why go thru all this trouble ?

Ans:

Ø  To get those 21 Lakh jobseekers (whose email ID’s we have) to submit their resumes on

www.world-wide-jobs.com

Corrots

à  Download Image Builder

à  Get mailing list of 31171 Companies (only if CAREER HISTORY section filled-up ONLINE.

Ø  Having got 21 lakh resumes, “Sell” each for Rs. 10/= (per download) to Corporates. By selling each resume (on an average) 10 times per year, earn

                                                                                                                        Rs. 20 crores/year !

                                                                                                                        (year-after-year)

Ø  Get “Salary + Designation” details of 21 lakh jobseekers & create

à  Salary Profile Graphs

à  Designation Profile Graphs

And annually sell 10 lakh graphs @ Rs. 20/= each to Corporates & earn Rs. 200 lakhs

                      (year after year).

Do you agree that, we should book

                                                             www.world-wide-jobs-com ?

DIGITAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (DNS)

Our “Computerisation” & “Communication” from the basic threads of our digital nervous system.

Our DNS must necessarily, encompass and integrate, into ONE/SIGLE/HOMOGENEOUS network,

Ø  All of our physical locations (HQ + Regional offices)

Ø  All of our PARTNERS/ALLIES/AFFILIATES/VENDORS/CLIENTS/CANDIDATES etc.

Ø  All of our EMPLOYEES (working from our office or from home), our Consultants/our Experts etc.

Ø  All of our networks Viz

-          Internet

-          Extranet                        thru VSAT or VPN

-          Intranet

Ø  All of our DATABASES

Ø  All of our APPLICATION-MODULES

(Finance Module=Mktg Module: Sales Module: order Execution Module: HR Module: etc. etc.

SECURITY

Our DNS should incorporate

·         Fingerprint recognition on all keyboards & mouse, coupled with Voice recognition.

Each person entitled to access our DNS would be subjected to these recognitions – (in addition to individual passwords ?).

Each “deletion” of recognition when such a person “Severs” his/her relationship with 3P.

·         No floppy drive / CD-ROM/tape back-up or any copying duplicating device at any computer at all regional offices.

Automatic detection (at HQ) if someone attempts to attach such a device (at Regional offices or at HQ)

·         No local “processing” at regional offices.

All database & applications to reside ONLY at HQ.

Regions to log-into HQ server to query/process data/enter data/send emails/receive emails/send out letters/raise invoices/submit offers etc. etc.

Anything & Everything to be done ONLY on HQ Server, with comprehensive LOG of who did what, when, why, for whom etc.

Only “print” command will enable local printing.

Thru such a “tight integration”, there should be no need for regions to send to HQ, any reports, of any type.

Central processing should enable HQ managers to View, on their own screen, at any time, for any region, all

MIS statements/Tabulations/Graphs etc. for Control & historical purposes.

·         Each regional manager can also see/view on his screen, the same MIS REPORTS (about his region only) that the HQ Manager Sees.

They should be able to see/discuss/work-upon the same MIS report, while engaged in Video-Conferencing.

Simultaneous, Combined Video-Conferencing of all regions & HQ, should eliminate need for monthly/quarterly/annual physical conference of regional heads, with HQ Staff. This will also enable all regions to get ALL-INDIA picture and exchange sales tips/business tips/business intelligence etc.

·         Attendance-recording systems at all regions must be integrated with HQ System. This, to be further integrated into Salary-payment system.

Regional Manager will give “print-commands” (to Central Server”) to print Salary-Cheques or Salary-transfer to an employees’ local bank account.

·         All cheques Collected from a local customer (by the reginal staff) to be deposited into a local (separate) bank account, which cannot be operated by any local staff (including Regional Manager) (DEPOSIT ACCOUNT)

From this a/c, Finance Manager at HQ, will, make transfers to another local bank account (WITHDRAWALS ACCOUNT), from time-to-time. This a/c will be operated by the Regional Manager.

Except for minor, day-to-day expenses, all regional expenses (against valid bills) will be made from the local account by cheque payments.

“Print” Commands for Such cheques will be invalid without making all relevant entries into the Central HQ Server (even though Cheques may be printed locally)

Finance Manager at HQ must be able to see on his Computer-Screen, bank balance positions of all regional accounts at anytime.

COMMENTS

Ø  Only following fields are “Mandatory”

à  Last Name

à  First Name

à  Current Company Name

à  Current Actual Designation

All the rest of the fields are “OPTIONAL”

Ø  Barring “Last Name” & First Name”, & “DOB” all fields should be “EDITABLE”.

However, we must clearly laydown

à  “Who” can edit

It more than one person can edit, should we record the name of the person who edited & when ?

à  If only one person is authorised to edit, how should info-be sent to him/her ?

Ø  Even the FIRST-TIME ENTRY, will/may be done by

à  Different persons, at

à  Different point of time.

Should any attempt be made to capture

à  Who made that “first” entry                                                    ?

à  When                                                                                                ?

à  From what source                                                                        ?

à  In what context                                                                            ?

(i.e. for which assignment)

So that, in case of doubt, next person “accessing/viewing” this database, could go back and ask the person who made the ORIGINAL entry ?

Ø  Obviously, there are many “fields” which must not be “edited”, once (originally) entered – although new/additional data Can be added”

eg:

à  Past Companies worked for

à  Membership held

à  Edu. Qualifications           etc. etc.

So, it is absolutely essential to define at the outset itself

à  What fields are mandatory

à  What fields you can edit/overwrite

à  What fields you cannot over write

à  Where you can ADD additional data

à  What fields must be “free text”

à  What fields should/must have “dropdowns”/Radio-buttons.

Ø  Let not 97 (or whatever number of) fields intimidate you !

These (many) are only “provisions” and to forward the very first sheet to a client, a Consultant would only need,

à  Name of Candidate

à  Name of Current Employer

à  Current Designation

( - may be picked up from a newspaper/magazine/directory/tv broadcast  etc. etc.)

Only when a client gives us feedback (as to which candidates he is interested in and who we should get in touch to find out, if he/she is interested in our client’s position and if yes, obtain resume/conduct prelim interview), then only,

-          The work of filling-up some more “fields” starts.

And, I presume, a Consultant would, even at this stage, fill-in ONLY those fields, which he/she would need to CONSTRUCT the “Excel” sheet dynamically.

Abhi has promised that a consultant can construct a UNIQUE  excel sheet by selecting

à  Any no. of “fields”

à  Arranged in any “order”

97 fields could give us “millions” of permutations/combinations of excel sheets ! – practically unlimited options, created dynamically !!

Non-Member Database

Search Tool

Ø  This was installed on your computer 10 days back – I hope you have used it

Ø  As of this morning, thru this tool, you can search 106552 records using

à  Desig-Level

Or

à  Function

Ø  By today evening, you should be able to search all of these by “Industry” also.

Non-Member Database (Search Tool)

Ø  In my yesterday’s note, I had mentioned that, thru this tool, you can now search ( Designation Level wise and Function wise),

106,552 records

Ø  Out of these (106,552), some 92000 records have also become searchable this morning thru Search-parameter,

INDUSTRY – name.

Ø  I also enclose a statement which shows the “break-up” of “Designation-Level” wise records as on 19/7/2002 and 27/8/2002 (today)

(54,894)                (104,453)

Ø  From newspapers/magazines etc, Deepa is daily marking names/Company-name/designations-(actual), of 20/30 Senior Executives. Data entry of these, has been Sub-Contracted to Sushma.

Ø  Our efforts to “purchase/buy” readymade, non-member databases is Continuing. We are targeting to add 25000 records every month.

Ø  You are aware that NON-Member Search tool has facility to Search by

-          Company Name

-          Person’s Name

Ø  Most important thing is that not only you should use this Search tool frequently

But,

You should continuously EDIT, the records also. Without editing on an ongoing/sustained basis (Whenever you Contact one/more of the executives listed therein), database will become OBSOLETE. It will also mean DUPLICATION of effort – and EMBARASSMENT if the executive whom you contact, Says,

“Hey, what is going on in 3P? Only last week, I told Mr/MS ------------/ your Colleague that I am now working with so-and so- and my phone No. is so-and-so and my designation is so-and-so” !

Don’t you guys have some system to note this down ? How many of you are going to ask me same info again-&-again ?”

This would create a very POOR image of 3P – and that is why “Editing” a record (whenever you come across a change) is Very VITAL.
