Mr. Neville Taraporewala
Chief Manager - Response

The Times of India Building
Dr. D. N. Road
Mumbai - 400 001
19 June, 1999
Dear Mr. Taraporewala:
Many thanks for your letter dt.
June 7.
As for your suggestion for some
kind of business relations with regard to your website www.timesjobsandcareers.com,
I feel there could be interesting possibilities.
Besides providing banners on
respective home pages, we could also consider exchanging the JOB - ADVT.
DATABASE on each others sites.
I believe your Job-Advt. Database
consists of only those advts which have appeared in the print-media of The
Times - Group publications. As against this, we scan and upload Job-Advts which
have appeared in several newspapers and magazines, including The Times Of India
- Mumbai edition.
How would this help?
- We, at 3P, will save the effort of scanning
the job - advts. appearing in the Times of India
- www.timesjobandcareer.com will be able to attract a
much larger no. of surfers to its site by offering a rich database of jobs
available across the length and breadth of the country.
If you feel like exploring this
idea further, I would be happy to come over and meet you.
[Handwritten note at the bottom:]
Had a meeting with Mr. Sunil
Rajshekhar - V.P. & Mr. Taraporewalla on 14-7-99. & also sent an email
on 19-7-99. They will send us a proposal by end of July.
(There is also a handwritten
date/signature at the top: 5/2/13)
Incidentally, during the current
month, the daily average no. of visitors (not hits) to our site has been $9000
+$ so far. On $14^{\text{th}}$ June, our site - rank was as follows:

Times Approach
Online submission of resume.
Online allotment of Resume No.

Option of Public Vs. Private
Resume
No separate forms for software
professionals / fresh
No download facility.
Resume hosted for 3 -12 Months.
Submit Resume
Conflict Area
Senior candidates will shun
"public" option for fear of boss finding out, especially if
candidate knows that his employer has "registered" with the Times
website for executive-search.
Submit Resume
Integration
3P, as a recruitment firm,
earns "Professional Fees" from each appointment made by client
Corporation. This business model requires that the candidate-identity must not
be revealed to a Corporate until & unless it accepts 3Ps "terms"
and agrees/undertakes to pay "Professional fees".
If 3P has to become a
"Service Provider" to Times, this would require :
- Elimination of "Public Resume"
option
- Online allotment of PEN to replace
candidate's identity
EDIT RESUME
Edit Resume
3P Approach
Candidate cannot view his entire
resume on website, but can see all the critical "Search Parameters"
He/She can modify any of the
search parameters - can also cut & paste full resume in the block provided.
Edit Resume
Times Approach
Candidate can view his entire
resume and can selectively edit any field of his choice.
This is definitely a much more
comprehensive approach.
It is also possible to completely
delete [incomplete text]
Edit Resume
Conflict Area
There is no major conflict
between the approaches adopted by 3P and Times.
Edit Resume
Integration
It would be possible to evolve a
new procedure which incorporates the best features from both the approaches.
JOB SEARCH
Job-Search
3P Approach
3P has segregated jobs in
four basic catagories [sic].
- Hotjobs
- Overseas Jobs
- Corporate Jobs
- Job Advts.compiled from leading Newspapers &
Magazines
Candidate can search on basic
fields like Position/Company/City
To search from the database of
Job advt. Compiled from Newspapers & Magazines candidate can apply filters
like [incomplete text]
Job-Search
Times Approach
Times has two broad
categories for the Job advt.
- Indian Jobs
- International Jobs
On both the databases simple
search can be made using two filters
- Industry
- Function
On both the databases advanced
search can be made using following filters
- Industry
- Function
- Country
- Annual Pay & Perks
Job-Search
Conflict Area
There is no major conflict
between the approaches adopted by 3P and Times.
Job-Search
Integration
It would be possible to evolve a
new procedure which incorporates the best features from both the approaches
EXECUTIVE SEARCH
3P Approach
Search can be conducted freely
by any surfer without revealing identity.
Common Search by..
- Industry
- Function
- Designation-level
- Posting City
- Age (max.)
- Exp (min.)
Executive Search
Times Approach
Search can be conducted only
by those Corporates who pays monthly/quarterly "charges" to
Register & Obtain Login Name & Password
Simple search by..
Industry + Function + Designation
Advanced search by..
Industry + Function + Designation
Age + Exp.+ Edu.Qualificatio [incomplete text] Options .
Executive Search
Conflict Area
Times-method discourages
all, but very serious and very convinced Corporates to search.
This drastically reduces traffic
of corporates, & discourages "research/experimentation".
Curiosity-factor is ignored.
Executive Search
Conflict Area
Disappointment with
search-results will lead to disenchantment on part of corporates.
Corporates cannot have "respect"
for "Public" resumes ! What kind of (Indian) executive wants
the world to know that he is desperately looking for a job-change ?
Executive Search
Integration
Search must be made totally free/
unrestricted to any Corporate without having to
- Reveal identity
- Obtain log-in name/password
- Pay "charges"
Let there be hundreds of "headhunt"
sessions on our site everyday !
Executive Search
Integration
Ensuring "confidentiality"
of resume -bank should not be thru the mechanism of "restricted access"
but by replacing identity/ contact information of each candidate by a unique
code such as PEN.
Shopping Basket
3P Approach
At the end of head-hunt session,
corporate fills-up a shopping-basket with short-listed candidates &
forewards [sic] to 3P.
At this stage, corporate has to
furnish all information about
- himself
- position to be filled.
Shopping Basket
3P Approach
In order to receive full resumes,
corporate must accept 3P's "Terms".
3P conducts "preliminary"
interviews of short-listed candidates & recommends to client those it
considers "suitable".
Shopping Basket
Times Approach
Corporates are able to establish
direct contact with the candidates, conduct interviews and offer appointment
without intervention of Times.
No payment of "Professional
Fees" to Times.
There is no "evaluation"
by Times and therefore no value addition to the selection-process.
Shopping Basket
Conflict Area
Executive-search is not a "core-business"
for Times. It is only incidental to its main business. Times
supplements print-media with electronic media as a value-enhancer.
Executive search is the only and
core business of 3P and website is its new business process medium.
Shopping Basket
Integration
- Corporates to conduct unrestricted headhunt
on resume database (without payment of any fees) and fill in shopping
basket.
- Shopping basket to get automatically transmitted
to 3P while simultaneously sending an e-mail to client saying 3P
will provide the service.
Shopping Basket
Integration
3P to act as back-end
service-provider by attending to each shopping-basket received thru Times
website, in exactly the same manner as it does at present.
ORDER EXECUTION
Order Execution
3P Approach
The entire work-flow and process
to be completed by 3P
- Sends "Terms" to the client.
- After client accepts the terms, sends detailed
resumes of candidates.
- Ascertains interest of candidates in the new
position.
Order Execution
3P Approach
- Arranges and Organises interview.
- Conducts preliminary evaluation.
- Assists client in salary negotiation.
- Conducts antecedent checks.
Order Execution
Times Approach
Times role is limited to
providing a platform where Corporates & Candidates can find each other.
Times is not in the
executive-search business and has no role in Order Execution.
Order Execution
Times Approach
The terms of business (fees,
etc.) are settled directly between Corporate & Candidate.
Times gets no share of the
professional fees.
Order Execution
Conflict Area
There is no conflict between the
approaches of the two. Times is happy to forward the shopping-basket to 3P
and be absolved of any litigation that may arise subsequently.
Order Execution
Integration
Timesjobsandcareers will
declare 3P as the strategic partner and Service provider for
job-advt and resume databases.
Order Execution
Integration
Corporates will deal directly
with 3P for settling terms of business (professional fees, etc.) and for
execution of the entire job-search/headhunt process.
Order Execution
Integration
The services rendered by 3P
(resume database creation, organising interviews, etc.) are absolutely FREE
to jobseekers.
