ADDITIONAL POINTS ( I )

“FRESH GRADUATES” feature
27/07/2011
Additional points (1)

► In my “concept note”, I mentioned that ALL 40 lakh fresh graduate “records” become available under “Resume Search” from DAY ONE itself (i.e. as soon as a record gets uploaded into database.

As a corollary, when a recruiter selects / clicks on any PEN in the search results, that “record”

► becomes “visible”
► becomes “downloadable”

You would have noticed that I am using the word “record” instead of “resume”.

Because, what we have received is a string of 25 “fields” for each candidate.

Even though it is a “record” and not a “resume”, we must ensure that, when it is “viewed” by an employer, its “cosmetic presentation” / display is EXCELLENT.

It must look like a well-designed / well-arranged RESUME – and not a “record”.
This is very important issue.

Matching Resumes when a job gets posted

You can call a “Job Posting” action, as some kind of PASSIVE “Resume Search” action.

Post Job
A recruiter posts a job and expects that jobseekers (interested/suitable) will “discover” that job during “job search” and apply – even as the recruiter is passively (lazy?) waiting!

Resume Search
Recruiter has no time. He is in a hurry. He cannot wait for some jobseekers to discover his “posted job”.

So he actively conducts a resume-search, to, himself discover, matching/suitable resumes.

This is the reason why “CRITERIA / FIELDS” in both,
➤ Job Post
➤ Resume Search
are nearly identical!

So, about 2 years ago when we launched CustomizeResume, we decided that as soon as a recruiter posts a job, we will immediately show below, a set of “Matching Resumes” fetched from our resume database.
May be around that time, other jobsites

also introduced this feature.
A “Job Post” was equated with “Resume Search”.

A software was written and this was even implemented.

But, within a few weeks, we had to withdraw this feature!

Simple reason.

We had just VERY FEW resumes for matching!

As a result, every time a recruiter posted a job advt, a message flashed,

“Sorry! No matching resumes found.”

This was very embarrassing!

So we discontinued it.

But now, in case of “FRESH GRADUATES” (only) we can re-introduce this concept.

This is because, as soon as a fresh grad. “record” gets uploaded, it becomes instantly searchable in “Resume Search”. No matter what job gets posted, we will always have plenty of matching fresh grad. resumes to display & amaze the recruiter!

FRESH GRADUATES CONCEPT NOTE

July 24, 2011
Shuklendu
cc: Nitin / Hardik

By leveraging 54 lakh candidate records recd. from Ajay, we were able to boost traffic.

Next week, it should increase further when we
▸ get 4 Mb email broadband connection
▸ upload "Is this Your Resume?" page

Now, we are about to receive 40 lakh candidate records of
FRESH GRADUATES
from Ajay.

We must leverage these in the same way, to boost traffic many-folds.

You already have a SAMPLE database of “Fresh Graduates” sent by Ajay.
Enclosed find a hard copy of same.

How can we leverage these?

By uploading these 40 lakhs into a separate (this is important),
 “Fresh Graduates Resume Database”

▸ By uploading SEPARATE / DISTINCT pages for
 • Jobseeker Registration – Fresh Graduate
 • Job Search – ”     ”
 • Resume Search – ”     ”
 • Job Posting – ”     ”
 (UI enclosed)

▸ By sending out promo emails to these 40 lakh (– there will be a small change in write-up of current template), inviting them to visit/login/Edit

▸ By giving/offering to them, a STRONG INCENTIVE to visit/login/Edit
(see UI of “Make Employers Notice You”)

▸ At some future date, uploading
 “Job Street” page.

Why is all of these necessary?

▸ On job-portals around the world, fresh graduates are “MOST ACTIVE” user group.

▸ India alone produces 3.5 million fresh graduates every year (nearly 10,000 / day!). This will keep rising. But since jobs are not getting created at even 10%, the balance 90% will become VERY ACTIVE.

In my earlier folder (dt 26/05/11), I had already proposed, UIs for
 • Resume Search / Fresh Graduates
 • Jobseeker Register / ”     ”

These pages stand “revised” as per new UI enclosed herewith.

Points to Remember:

▸ Fresh Graduates have rarely anything in the nature of a “Text Resume”.
So I have avoided this block in “Registration” page.

▸ For fresh graduates there will be no raw score / percentile score / graph

▸ For fresh graduates, all forms must be
very SIMPLE / SHORT / CLICKABLE (no typing?)
Someday, “Registration” could be from a mobile phone?

Whereas, in case of “Experienced Professionals” database of 54 lakhs, we could not make their resumes “searchable” in
Resume Search,
all these got edited with text resumes,
in case of “Fresh Graduates”, we could
make all 40 lakhs searchable from day 1!

This is because, there is no
 – text resume / function / keywords
 – raw score / percentile score
 – graph

▸ For a long time to come, there will be VERY FEW
 • Jobs posted by registered employers directly
 • Resumes               “       “    “  fresh graduates

Hence, matchmaking for “My Job Alerts” page, will be only between
 • 40 lakh database supplied by Ajay (Annex A)
 • 3 lakh jobs (RSS feed) (Annex B)

Our software should match, from both of these annexures, following fields:

 A (40 lakh database) | Annex: B (RSS job ads – 3 lakh)

Annex AAnnex B
#10 → Key Skills#11 → Keywords
#15 → Level = Entry Level / Fresh (by Default)#7 → Experience (desired) = 1 / 2 years only
#16 → Current Location#10 → Location
#17 → Course (Highest Edu) (Degree name)#9 → Education ("only Degree" name)
#18 → Specialization (Whatever candidate mentioned)#9 → Education (Any words – other than "Degree name" – which match)

Additional Notes:
  • 👉 See promo email draft and UI of page
    "Make Employers Notice You"

My purpose is two-fold, viz:

1. To motivate 40 lakh fresh graduates to visit our site and EDIT their resumes by entering their
% marks obtained in final year exam”.

I have purposely restricted the drop-list to cover 41% to 100%.

Let me know if you'd like the full 7-page content compiled again with this updated scan, or turned into a polished blog draft for SEEM – the SAVIOUR.

My purpose is two-fold, viz:

I have purposely restricted the drop-list to cover 41% to 100%.

Page 6/7

2. To get Google spider to visit
“Make Employers Notice You” page,
then click on each % (e.g. 41 42 43 etc),
then click on “Name Links”, open the resume
and index all the words contained in each resume!

No Login required!

This will vastly improve our site-position in (most) ANY search term in Google!

Out of sheer curiosity, even human visitors would keep clicking and seeing resumes!

And, as promised, when any recruiter conducts a “Resume Search for Fresh Graduates,”
we will list, right on the top of the search results, those candidates who have furnished their “marks %” details.
Rest will get listed below (in alpha order).

I further propose that, even without login, any jobseeker should also be able to conduct a
“Fresh Graduate - Resume Search”

Page 7/7

He should be able to “SEE/VIEW” the result-tabulation with all details

but,
since he is not logged-in as an Employer, he cannot click open any resume.

Such an arrangement will provide a very convincing proof of our promise!

I am sure, after reading these notes, you will have a few questions.
It is entirely possible that I have failed to envisage your technical problems.

So,
let us meet in your office, sometime next week (after Hardik uploads
Is this Your Resume?” page)

► We should try to upload Fresh Grad. applications (UI) by end August.

Dear Ajay,

▸ We have your details on www.CustomizeResume.com

▸ But, we do not have your
“Percentage (%) marks obtained in final year exam.”

▸ This is a key criteria for Recruiters to decide whether to call you for interview or not.
If in doubt, conduct a "Resume Search" by entering some % marks!

▸ We strongly recommend that you EDIT your resume on our website and enter this vital data.

▸ Just login using:

… and EDIT.

▸ And do not forget to visit “Make Employers Notice You”.
Names of your many friends may be there!

JOB ALERTS ON MOBILE

Job Alerts on Mobile

During the last 30 days, we had approx. 9000 visits to our site.
But only 4/5 "Jam alert" SMS.

I am unable to figure out why jobseekers are not using this excellent (and FREE) service, which eliminates their dependence on PC/Internet connection.

All the jobseekers have mobiles – and I am sure all of them send many other SMS everyday.

And I have only ONE instance of a candidate phoning for explanation of how JAM works. Unfortunately, in his case, there were NO MATCHING JOBS!

Maybe, we will get some more feedback when we put our phone no. and email ID below EACH page.

But instead of trying to decipher why jobseekers are NOT sending JAM alert SMS, we should ask ourselves...

"What can WE do to simplify JAM?
What can WE do to make it very easy for jobseekers to use JAM?
How can WE eliminate the 'friction' (in the process) of JAM?"

Maybe the answer is:

▶ Eliminate SMS

▶ Introduce a simple icon ![Job Alerts]
Which can be installed on any smartphone thru a small downloadable s/w application

▶ Touching the icon straightaway loads the candidate's “Job Details on Mobile” screen
(– not the “Matching Jobs” screen)

▶ If he is not a registered candidate, touching “Job Alert” icon will flash a message:
"To see your matching job-alerts, first register on www.CustomizeResume.com – and enter this mobile number."

▶ “Job Details” display on Smartphone will have [Apply] button at the —

bottom, touching which will email that candidate’s resume to the job-advertiser.

Touching on [NEXT] button will reveal the next matched job.

Maybe I have OVERSIMPLIFIED the entire process (– my advantage is my computer illiteracy!).

But then, why are smartphones getting so popular – and set to eliminate plain phones within 2 years?

Reason:
Smartphones are as easy to operate as switching on a light bulb or clicking on a TV remote – (both of which are context that even villages understand & regularly interact with).

I have tried to explain my idea in the enclosed diagram.

I hope, between them, HP Labs and Sentient Systems, can bring about a revolution of a “level playing field” for millions of jobseekers.

UI for revised “Google Loves Us” page

▻ Enclosed find the revised U/I.

▻ I have deleted many search terms and added a few (Down from 36 to 24).

▻ I have grouped in blocks of 3 – to improve legibility. Grouping – to the extent possible – also places similar terms together.

▻ Instead of adding many “ZEROS” in the last column, I suggest we write “Millions” or “Billions” (except one case).

▻ I have purposely separated out, link for “Google Loves Us” & placed it at bottom. I suggest, for this term, we use a slightly bigger font.

▻ Clicking on “Hemen Parekh” will insert this term in Google and display that page.
