OPERATION "LOCK-IN"
Objective: To lock-in
thousands of cybercafes into our cybercafe program.
How:
- By creating for them a
"Revenue-stream/flow" which is substantial/irresistible, when
they join our Cybercafe Program.
Method:
- Create a "Resume Forwarding Service"
which will work exclusively from the premises of only those cybercafes
which become our "partners".
- Under this service, the visitors of a partner
cybercafe can instruct 3P to forward their resumes to
- Certain Companies whose job-advt:
appear on our website (He will
shortlist these Companies job-advts., after a normal job-search).
- Specific Companies by their names displayed in a
drop-down list.
- A Cybercafe will fix its own "rates/tariff"
for the Resume Forwarding Service.
- He will enter this "tariff" in an
ADMIN TOOL/PERSONAL PAGE, before starting this service
- OR
- He gives this "rate/tariff" to us
and WE enter into the ADMIN TOOL before ACTIVATING
this service (as far as that particular Cybercafe is concerned).
- Cybercafe owner will be at liberty to change the
"rate/tariff" at anytime he chooses (of course, thru
the ADMIN TOOL only).
- 3P webserver will NOT initiate the
"despatch" action unless and until
- Cybercafe owner has actually collected cash from
the Visitor
- Cybercafe owner clicks on FORWARD button
- Even though, we are not asking for any share/%age
of the tariff collected by a Cybercafe, we most certainly want to compile
statistics on each Cybercafe re:
- how many resumes we received
- (and for how many candidates) we despatched
- how much money did that cybercafe earned from this
service.
- (We should be able to do this for any period for
one or for all cybercafes).
- So far, this (what I have described) is GENERAL
THEORY of LOCK-IN. Now, what I describe is the SPECIAL THEORY of
LOCK-IN (With apologies to Albert Einstein! )
- This Special theory will cover our strategic
alliance with https://www.google.com/search?q=S.Kumars.com Ltd (SKCL).
In future, it may cover other similar alliances.
- Under this special theory, daily/weekly or
monthly "revenue" earned by a particular Cybercafe will
be shared between the partners (parties) concerned in some
fixed/predetermined - but variable, proportions.
- The parties concerned are:
- SKCL franchisee Cybercafe. [ ]%
- SKCL itself [ ]%
- 3P [ ]%
- Although, online payment gateway (to 3P) is
not envisaged, 3P must be accumulate/aggregate
"Resume Forwarding
Revenues" earned by all SKCL franchisee Cybercafes put together,
for any given period to determine its (3P's) own "share"
and
- When that "share" is received by
Cheque (D.D), to be able to enter it in the ADMIN TOOL, so
that, we may know, for each period (Say - month) what amount is Outstanding
from SKCL.
- If we do not receive our "share"
by a predetermined period, we should have the facility/tool to "shut-off"
the resume-forwarding service to SKCL franchisees. Here, we will
not be dealing with individual franchisees of SKCL but with (parent
body) SKCL only.
- Under "General Theory" our
tie-up/agreement is directly with individual cybercafe. and, although, we
are NOT asking them to "share" with us, any part
of their earning from "Resume
Forwarding Service", we must
still have the facility/freedom/tool to "Shut-off" this
service for any particular Cybercafe, if we have reason to believe that he is
acting in some "unethical" manner or has stopped displaying
our home-page as his default browser page.
- [The remainder of this page is blank/lined.]
Q. Why should/would
Cybercafes jump for this program?
Ans:
- In a manner of speaking, it is at "OUR
COST/EFFORT" that a cybercafe is able to offer ONLINE
APPLY/RESUME FORWARD SERVICE to its Visitors.
- He incurs NO COST but manages to collect
lots of money, at our expense. He does NOT have to share his
earnings with us.
- This income to Cybercafe comes at the end of each
day - in cash!
- Here there is no question of "you get paid,
IF & WHEN, we succeed in appointing your candidate".
- Who wants to keep track of endless "to-morrows"
& follow-up with 3P?
- Besides this ("Resume Forwarding Service"),
Cybercafe can – and most certainly will – charge a Visitor,
different/Varying "CASH" amounts for
- Submitting/Posting Resume [ ]
- Editing Resume [ ]
- Conducting a "Job search" [ ]
- Opening email box (to check whether there are any
job-alerts/interview-call letters etc) [ ]
- As far as these (other) Services are
concerned, Cybercafe can independently fix any amount/tariff and neither
has to inform us NOR has to share any revenue with us !!
- This whole program (Resume Forwarding Service -
and other services listed above) are directed to MASS-MARKET of
Several hundred MILLION unemployed people (42 million registered
with 914 employment exchanges – June 1999).
Being "unemployed",
they have no access to internet thru an office PC!
- Their only access to internet is thru a Cybercafe!
- (% of surfers in India, accessing internet thru
Cybercafes, went up from 7% in 1998 to 35% in 2000!)
- As far as Cybercafes are concerned, collecting
money from these "hopefuls" is the name-of-the-game.
- This will be an especially convincing argument (on
part of the Cybercafe) if he is able to show/demonstrate/convince, a
visitor that
- There are several hundred/thousand job-advts. on www.3pjobs.com, which seem "ideally
suited" to him
- There are 50,000/100,000 Companies
whose names/details are ACTUALLY
VISIBLE on www.3pjobs.com, to whom he can "choose"
to send his resume.
(This is possible by taking
CD-ROM of Department of Company Affairs (Rs. 2492) which lists
- 5.5 lakh registered Companies
- 70,000 Limited companies. I am sure 100,000
of these have email addresses as well).
- NOW for the first time, not only a person
has a choice, from amongst 1 Lakh Companies, to send his
resume
- but
- he can send to 500 companies (VOLUME -
(Volumes he could have never targeted in the past - even if he knew the
existence of these Companies & their addresses)
- he can do this for a nominal cost of may be, Rs.
1/- per company (ECONOMICS).
So, what a Cybercafe... offers
him is a UNIQUE combination (UNBEATABLE), of
[DIAGRAM: Triangle with
three corners labeled]
- COST (Rs. 1/application!)
- CHOICE/OPTION (1 Lakh Companies to choose
from
- Target Volume (500 Companies - or more!)
This is "DIRECT/TELE
MARKETING" in its ultimate form! - a Jugal-bandi of computers &
Telecommunication. And, today, any fresh graduate, whose parents have spent Rs.
1 lakh in giving him School/College education, would be more than
willing/happy/anxious to invest, another
Rs. 500/=
for securing his future! This
amount (for an individual) is affordable. For cybercafe, it is a FORTUNE!
Q. So, what do WE
get in return for helping a cybercafe earn lots of money? what is in it, for
us?
Ans: There is no free
lunch in the world. You cannot get "something" for
"nothing".
Imagine, if we could have 3P's
homepage as the default page (of browser)
- in 10,000 cybercafes
- on 50,000 computers (5/cafe)
- at least 12 hours/day!
That is one hell-of-a-lot-of PUBLICITY,
something we cannot "buy", by spending CRORES of rupees on
newspaper advts.!
What we get in return, is a BRAND-EQUITY
This could make 3P the most recognisable brand in India!
Next, this should bring-in
millions of resumes on our website, a valuable database, which we will continue
to sell, again & again, to these Corporates who will conduct a
resume-search on our website & then send us a Shopping Basket.
In the beginning, this ONLINE
SALE will require some manual back-office effort (receiving
cheque/forwarding resumes) but in course of time, even this will get automated
thru a payment gateway.
Next, this will provide "Synergy"
to our other "Partner Program" e.g: If we have a database of 1
Million resumes on our website, a large number of other (Vortal) websites,
could come forward to become our "partner websites"
Q. What would it COST
us to implement "Operation Lock-In"?
Ans: One-time Costs
- Developing web-based System/Application
- Creating database of 1 Lakh Companies (from
DCA CD-ROM?)
- Creating a "starting database" of 20,000
dummy job-advts for subordinate & entry-level jobs.
- MS-SQL & other "Messenger"
Software
- Webserver (?)
Repeat Cost
- Monthly rental charges of webserver (capable of
being scaled-up from despatch of 500 resumes/day to 500,000
resumes/day!)
SUCCESS FACTORS of OPERATION
"LOCK-IN"
The most important success factor
(in this operation) is the ability of a Cybercafe owner to "lock-in"
his visitors. His visitors must return to him again & again, for life
time.
If we help the cybercafe owner to
lock-in his customers, in turn, he will be, more than willing to remain "locked-in"
with 3P!
He must know that, as long as he
remains locked-in with 3P, he can expect a perpetual/ever-increasing flow of "easy"
revenue.
Such a realization would ensure
that he never "leaves" us.
So, how do we ensure that "his"
customers remain "locked-in" with him?
We can ensure this by giving to
each partner Cybercafe, a unique CUSTOMER SERVICE PAGE
There will be one page for each "Customer"
of that cybercafe.
This page will be created
automatically, the first time, when a Visitor submits his resume to 3P thru
that cybercafe.
Thereafter, everytime that
customer, uses any "Service on 3pjobs.com", that page will "record"
that activity automatically and create a CUSTOMER HISTORY.
This "History"
will comprise
- Name/Contact info/PEN
- History of Resume entry/editing
- History of job-searches conducted
- History of "Resume-Forwarding"
requests made
- History of "job-alerts" sent out
to that visitor by 3P
- History of "getting-shortlisted"
by a recruiter (thru shopping-basket)
- History of "interview-call letters"
sent to that candidate by 3P
- History of all the money earned by that
Cybercafe from that candidate.
All of these "history-pages"
should be chronologically arranged. Now take the case of "Job-Alerts".
Once a Customer has submitted his resume, he will start getting job-alerts. He
will never come to know about these, unless he "opens" his email
box frequently.
Now, let us assume that he has
submitted his resume to a particular Cybercafe, which is physically located
- next to his residence (if unemployed)
- next to his office/factory (if employed)
- next to his bus-stop or his rail station.
In other words, some place which
he is likely to pass-by at least once, during the course of the day.
This makes it very
easy/convenient for him to drop-in his cybercafe EVERYDAY and inquire
with the cybercafe owner if there is ANY MESSAGE for him, from 3P.
Using Visitor's PEN
cybercafe owner open the jobseeker's PERSONAL/HISTORY PAGE and gives him
an answer within seconds.
Now, if there is one-or-more
job-alerts in his name, what will the jobseeker do next?
Obviously, he will log-into the
"Resume Forwarding
Service" Page (special page),
- enter the job-advt. no's.
- pay tariff to Cybercafe owner
- submit/despatch.
So revenue, again & again
for the Cybercafe owner!
And, most certainly the jobseeker
would also want to check, everyday, whether, there are any INTERVIEW-CALLS
for him.
This is even more
important/crucial for the jobseeker's point of view. Having sent his resume to
500 companies (thru Resume Forwarding Service), he MUST check EVERYDAY,
if there are any call-letters (emails).
So, he must, once again, log-in
to "access" his mailbox (in fact, I expect Cybercafe
Manager to do this for him!)
So, once again, daily/repeat
revenue from each job-seeker!!
We can go, one step further:
Suppose, we tabulate (daily),
each partner, Cyber-cafe-wise,
- all "job-alerts"
- all "interview-call" letters (Only
those sent-out by us & not those which a corporate might send-out
directly on his own) (in respect of resumes received from that cybercafe)
AND,
we despatch this TABULATION,
daily to each partner Cybercafe
THEN,
Cybercafe manager can take a
printout & display on his notice-board, first thing in the morning.
So daily-visiting customers,
simply need to look-up these tabulations to see, if their PEN figure
anywhere.
This is quite like
- SSC results displayed on school-notice boards
- Sikkim/U.P. Lottery results displayed next to
lottery-tickets-vendor (or even newspapers).
Only difference: In our case,
this will be a daily affair.
Such a "LOCK-IN"
device, will particularly appeal to relatively small towns with very few
cybercafes, where, for the entire population their only means of "accessing
internet" is thru those few cybercafes. In such towns, these few
cybercafes, will, in any case, be the "hang-out" places for
the town's "unemployed youths!" And even if a few of these
guys get a job-alert, that news is bound to spread like wild-fire, throughout
the town. This falls in the category of VIRAL MARKETING!
If there is a local (regional
language) newspaper being published in a small town/city, we should convince
the publisher himself to become our PARTNER CYBERCAFE.
In that case, he can actually
print our daily JOB-ALERT "despatches" in his newspaper itself!
This will make the job-seekers run to his cybercafe to shoot-out "RESUME
FORWARDING REQUESTS"! His Cybercafe income may even subsidise his
newspaper losses!
Even today, and even in big
metros like Mumbai, every second day, we get a small leaflet/pamphlet, inserted
by a local shopkeeper/local business, along with our morning TIMES OF INDIA.
Local newspaper distributing
agencies will do this for any local business for 5/10 np per pamphlet.
Distribution is generally restricted to a small locality of 500/5000
families buying "any" newspaper.
So, it is quite conceivable that
an enterprising cybercafe owner, quickly manages to print-out our DAILY
JOB-ALERT DESPATCH and distribute in his locality, thru newspaper vendors!
By end of the day, he would
recover the cost of printing/distributing TEN times!
Such an enterprising Cybercafe
owner may even dare to print/distribute daily "JAWS DESPATCH"
received from 3P in his locality, once-in-a while to bring in new
customers/repeat 'customer'.
The phenomenon of Cybercafes has
special significance to poor countries (having poor purchasing power with its
population) having poor internet penetration. This is how PCO's flourished in
India, when Sam Pitroda provided them
with a SOLID
revenue-model. Having tasted good "earnings", the PCOs would
be the first ones to jump-on the Internet band wagon, only if we could convince
them that if
- Pitroda gave them a "means to exist"
- 3P would give them a "method to
grow"
People (poor people) could
not afford a telephone on their own but they had a great/latent NEED to
use one. PCOs solved that problem.
Same with internet. People cannot
afford a Rs. 30,000/= P.C and an expensive phone line and
equally-expensive ISP charges, but, a Cybercafe provides them ideal
solution - not for "idle" surfing but for a "life-and-death"
matter of jobs, a matter of ROTI-KAPADA-MAKAN.

his visitors.
So,
how do we ensure that
"his" customers remain "locked-in" with him?
We can ensure this by giving to
each partner Cybercafe, a unique CUSTOMER SERVICE PAGE
There will be one page for each "Customer"
of that cybercafe.
This page will be created
automatically, the first time, when a Visitor submits his resume to 3P thru
that cybercafe.
Thereafter, everytime that
customer, uses any "Service on 3pjobs.com", that page will "record"
that activity automatically and create a CUSTOMER HISTORY.
This "History"
will comprise
- Name/Contact info/PEN
- History of Resume entry/editing
- History of job-searches conducted
- History of "Resume-Forwarding"
requests made
- History of "job-alerts" sent out
to that visitor by 3P
- History of "getting-shortlisted"
by a recruiter (thru shopping-basket)
- History of "interview-call letters"
sent to that candidate by 3P
- History of all the money earned by that
Cybercafe from that candidate.
All of these
"history-pages" should be chronologically arranged.
Now take the case of
"Job-Alerts".
Once a Customer has submitted his
resume, he will start getting job-alerts. He will never come to know about
these, unless he "opens" his email box frequently.
Now, let us assume that he has
submitted his resume to a particular Cybercafe, which is physically located
- next to his residence (if unemployed)
- next to his office/factory (if employed)
- next to his bus-stop or his rail station.
In other words, some place which
he is likely to pass-by at least once, during the course of the day.
This makes it very
easy/convenient for him to drop-in his cybercafe EVERYDAY and inquire
with the cybercafe owner if there is ANY MESSAGE for him, from 3P.
Using Visitor's PEN
cybercafe owner open the jobseeker's PERSONAL/HISTORY PAGE and gives him
an answer within seconds.
Now, if there is one-or-more
job-alerts in his name, what will the jobseeker do next?
Obviously, he will log-into the
"Resume Forwarding
Service" Page (special page),
- enter the job-advt. no's.
- pay tariff to Cybercafe owner
- submit/despatch.
So revenue, again & again
for the Cybercafe owner!
And, most certainly the jobseeker
would also want to check, everyday, whether, there are any INTERVIEW-CALLS
for him.
This is even more
important/crucial for the jobseeker's point of view.
Having sent his resume to 500
companies (thru Resume Forwarding Service), he MUST check EVERYDAY, if there
are any call-letters (emails).
So, he must, once again, log-in
to "access" his mailbox (in fact, I expect Cybercafe
Manager to do this for him!)
So, once again, daily/repeat
revenue from each job-seeker!!
We can go, one step further:
Suppose, we tabulate (daily),
each partner, Cyber-cafe-wise,
- all "job-alerts"
- all "interview-call" letters (Only
those sent-out by us & not those which a corporate might send-out
directly on his own) (in respect of resumes received from that cybercafe)
AND,
we despatch this TABULATION,
daily to each partner Cybercafe
THEN,
Cybercafe manager can take a
printout & display on his notice-board, first thing in the morning.
So daily-visiting customers,
simply need to look-up these tabulations to see, if their PEN figure
anywhere.
This is quite like
- SSC results displayed on school-notice boards
- Sikkim/U.P. Lottery results displayed next to
lottery-tickets-vendor (or even newspapers).
Only difference: In our case,
this will be a daily affair.
Such a "LOCK-IN"
device, will particularly appeal to relatively small towns with very few
cybercafes, where, for the entire population their only means of "accessing
internet" is thru those few cybercafes. In such towns, these few
cybercafes, will, in any case, be the "hang-out" places for
the town's "unemployed youths!" And even if a few of these
guys get a job-alert, that news is bound to spread like wild-fire, throughout
the town. This falls in the category of VIRAL MARKETING!
If there is a local (regional
language) newspaper being published in a small town/city, we should convince
the publisher himself to become our PARTNER CYBERCAFE.
In that case, he can actually
print our daily JOB-ALERT "despatches" in his newspaper itself!
This will make the job-seekers run to his cybercafe to shoot-out "RESUME
FORWARDING REQUESTS"! His Cybercafe income may even subsidise his
newspaper losses!
Even today, and even in big
metros like Mumbai, every second day, we get a small leaflet/pamphlet, inserted
by a local shopkeeper/local business, along with our morning TIMES OF INDIA.
Local newspaper distributing
agencies will do this for any local business for 5/10 np per pamphlet.
Distribution is generally restricted to a small locality of 500/5000
families buying "any" newspaper.
So, it is quite conceivable that
an enterprising cybercafe owner, quickly manages to print-out our DAILY
JOB-ALERT DESPATCH and distribute in his locality, thru newspaper vendors!
By end of the day, he would
recover the cost of printing/distributing TEN times!
Such an enterprising Cybercafe
owner may even dare to print/distribute daily "JAWS DESPATCH"
received from 3P in his locality, once-in-a while to bring in new
customers/repeat 'customer'.
The phenomenon of Cybercafes has
special significance to poor countries (having poor purchasing power with its
population) having poor internet penetration. This is how PCO's flourished in
India, when Sam Pitroda provided them
with a SOLID
revenue-model. Having tasted good "earnings", the PCOs would
be the first ones to jump-on the Internet band wagon, only if we could convince
them that if
- Pitroda gave them a "means to exist"
- 3P would give them a "method to
grow"
People (poor people) could
not afford a telephone on their own but they had a great/latent NEED to
use one. PCOs solved that problem.
Same with internet. People cannot
afford a Rs. 30,000/= P.C and an expensive phone line and
equally-expensive ISP charges, but, a Cybercafe provides them ideal
solution - not for "idle" surfing but for a "life-and-death"
matter of jobs, a matter of ROTI-KAPADA-MAKAN.

LOCAL LANGUAGES
I feel our website should provide
the option of the use of local language (of choice) to the "subordinate
staff". Over a period of time, these will constitute the majority.
Even today, for every
English-speaking professional, there must be at least TEN,
local-language speaking job-seekers. Perhaps 90% of these would fall
under "subordinate staff" category.
I am also sure that a great
majority of these 42 million persons registered with 914 employment
exchanges around the country, would also fall in the category of
NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING
SUBORDINATE STAFF.
It would be interesting to find
out whether employment-exchanges located in each state, make available APPLICATION
FORMS printed in local language - maybe in addition to English.
These are also the persons, who
are (a great majority) located in small towns where there are not many "offices"
and their only means of accessing internet would be local CYBERCAFES.
(These have also relevance to 1500
VSAT Cybercafe franchisees being set up by
https://www.google.com/search?q=S.Kumars.com Ltd – in the first phase)
In these towns, in course of time
PCOs will become internet-access points.
Or their local CABLE TV
OPERATOR may provide them access to internet thru cable (we must
remember that there are, today, 30,000 cable operators – 6000 headends –
pumping cable TV to 30 million homes in India!)
Then there will be several
thousand ICC (Internet Community Centres) of Reliance Infocom.
So, when internet access becomes
easily available to these millions and millions of "Subordinate
Staff", which jobsite, will they turn to to
- Submit their resumes?
- to conduct a job search?
I have a feeling that, even if
these millions are able to "read" english, they would be very
comfortable with their own LOCAL LANGUAGE.
There is no doubt that, given a
choice/option, they would log into that job-site which offers them a LOCAL
LANGUAGE option.
And, as always, the "FIRST
MOVER" would have the advantage!
As of today, out of more than 400
Indian jobsites (There are 48,000 worldwide – and, I believe, close
to 50% are in local languages!), there is none, offering local language.
So, we must move FAST and GRAB
this "first-mover" advantage.
And, I believe C-DAC (Pune)
offers a ready-made/out-of-the-box solution to do this.
We have following forms for the
subordinate-staff:
- Submit Resume
- Job-search (short display)
- Job-search (long display)
- Resume Forward Request.
(for Jobseekers)
- Post job-advt
- Resume-Search
- Resume-Search (short display)
- Resume-Search (long display)
- Enquiry form (Shopping Basket)
(for Recruiters)
On all of these forms, we should
provide a button/dropdown list, which says "Choose Your Local
Language"
When a local language is chosen,
next to each "English language" field (or just below it), the
local language translation must appear.
Now in many cases, there may not
be an "equivalent" word in a given local language, in which
case, I feel the english phonetic sound must be expressed in local language SCRIPT.
e.g: I don't think, in any Indian
language, we have "equivalent meaning" words for
- Typist/Steno/Receptionist/Tele-Operator
- Welder/Electrician/Plumber etc etc.
So, there is no point in
finding/displaying a local language "equivalent" word, which
the local guy just does not understand!!
This will only make matters
worse!
So, the best solution, is to
simply
use the local language SCRIPT,
leaving the English SOUND intact!
Both the jobseekers & the
recruiters would understand this, and "click" on the right
word in the dropdown list.
Only problem will come with
regard to those fields which call for free-text entry/typing.
As far as these are concerned, I
suppose, we have no option but to insist that these are filled-in (typed)
in ENGLISH.
This is essential from following:
- All Keyboards will remain in English for a long
time to come
- Name/Address (Contact Info) & Experience
block, has to be stored in Server database.
I suppose, we can put clear "INSTRUCTIONS"
near these fields.
As far as field for E-MAIL
address is concerned, I suggest we add following remarks
E-Mail Add: [ ]
(If you do not have your
own/independent email address, please enter the email address of the cybercafe
from where you are logged-in).
Even if we provide the link "click
here to get email address", most of these visitors, would not know how
to go about getting – and then remembering – their independent email address.
Again, in any case, we want them
to remain "locked-in" (See Operation Lock In) with that
particular Cybercafe so as to generate "repeat" income for
that Cybercafe. when they come back to check if there is any "job-alert"/
"call-letter" for them. Cybercafe manager should be happy to
create a special email ID for this purpose.
