RESUME BLASTER

Resume Blaster – Concept Note

Date: Christmas Day / 2011
To: Shuklendu

Enclosed find:

  • Annex A → Comparison of Widgets

  • Annex B → Screenshots of Resume Blaster

  • Annex C → Notes on Logic

WHY?

  • Foremost, every registered jobseeker may not have matched job-alerts — so “My Jobs” is of no use to him.

  • This will be especially true of FRESH GRADUATES, in whose resumes there is very little to “match”.

    • No “Industry”, no “Function”, only City (no “Experience” either!).

  • And every year, some 3.5 million fresh graduates are coming out of colleges.

  • They want ANY job / ANY where / in ANY industry or function.

  • “Resume Blaster” will enable them to apply to some 60,000 Employers/Recruiters, without bothering whether they have vacancies or not.

Proof:

So far, online from our site 2,54,187 resumes have been blasted!
(Obviously, by those 1800 registered candidates only.)

  • Widget frees them from PC/Broadband too.

WHO?

  • As explained above, Resume Blaster is primarily intended for FRESH GRADUATES, and any other “registered” jobseeker who gets very few or NIL job alerts.

  • Of course, I would not be surprised if even those who do get lots of job-alerts also start using Resume Blaster to send their resumes to “Companies of Choice”, even CITIES of their choice.

REVENUE MODEL

  • All major job-portals offer “Resume Blast” feature.
    But...

Key Features of Resume Blaster

  • Feature is offered ONLINE (No widget)

  • Resumes can be blasted to only 1000 / 2000 companies (no selection).

  • Jobseeker must pay between Rs. 1000 / 2000 for this service — and in advance, online.

  • Job portals never reveal the names of these 1000 / 2000 companies to jobseeker!

As against this, Resume Blaster will enable a jobseeker to:

  • Select Industries & Companies (even Cities)

  • Blast any number / any time / over a period

  • Do it OFFLINE

  • Do it FREE (to 60,000 & growing)

✅ We will earn revenue through InMobi Ad Network.

So, we are talking of "Sending Messages" (in this case, RESUMES)

To 60,000 Employers (Businesses)

Possibility for Future: Convert to “B2B Marketing Widget”

  • Thousands of businesses sell their products/services to only other businesses.

  • Your company could market its services to thousands of other companies.

  • Imagine the convenience (and free-ness) of sending your marketing message to many companies directly from your smartphone.

We are leveraging:

  • ✅ Our growing database of Employer Companies

  • ✅ Widget Technology

  • ✅ Rapid growth of Smartphones

Conclusion (Page 5/5)

We should take up development of this widget as soon as “My Jobs” gets stabilized and runs smoothly.

In the meantime, please give some thought to this concept.
We can sit down and discuss further whenever you are ready.

With the considerable experience gained during the development of My Jobs,
I think it would be relatively easy and quick for us to launch:

“Resume Blaster”

Once we have developed the required pages,
we will request Geetha / Revathi for the widget itself.

Regards
Hemen Parekh

Page 7: Notes (Annex: C)

  • "Resume Blaster" widget will enable a jobseeker to blast his resume to INDIAN companies only.

    • Hence, unlike the ONLINE version, there is no need for a dropdown of "Country Names".

  • Unlike in the ONLINE version, in the widget:

    • There will be no city-wise search of companies or recruitment agencies.

  • 5255 recruitment agencies to be merged into the industry named:

    • "Consultancy / Services" industry.

  • Within each industry, companies will be listed alphabetically.

  • Since 20–30 unique company names get added daily to the database (industry-wise), these need to be inserted at appropriate alphabetical positions.

  • From each Company Name List (industry-wise), the next 10 names will be picked and delivered each time.

Page 8

  • A jobseeker logs in and selects a particular industry.

  • This requires tracking of industry-wise/company-wise "names" delivered to every registered jobseeker.

  • But:

    • We will not keep track/log of:

      • Which companies he selected

      • Or did not select

  • While touching the Blast Resume button:

    • Those "Company Names" will not be shown again.

    • Gone forever! No second chance.

  • Exception: Many companies are listed under 2/3/5 different industries — That is OK.

  • Advantage:

    • No need for APPLIED / NOT APPLIED buttons.

Page 9: N/3

  • Even within same industry name, a company may be listed in multiple cities.

    Example:

    • Industry: Air Conditioning

    • Company: Godrej

    • Factories in: Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin

  • Recruitment managers at each location may post job ads:

    • On different job portals

    • For different positions

    • In different cities

    • Under different email IDs

  • So, for same industry (Air Conditioning), screen #4 may show:

    scss
    [ ] Godrej (Cochin) [ ] Godrej (Delhi) [ ] Godrej (Mumbai) [ ] Godrej (Pune) [Back] [BLAST RESUME]

Page 10: N/4

  • Suggestion: Add "Opinion Poll / Rating" screen on widget

  • Add "Resume Blaster Widget Opinion Poll" page (online) to display consolidated results

  • Previously:

    • Only 10 company names shown at a time

    • Widget user must tap a product ad to pull next 10 company names

  • Modified Reward Mechanism (if feasible):

    • Screen shows 10 company names

    • At bottom, display Page No. or NEXT button

    Interaction:

    1. Tap NEXT ➝ show a product ad

    2. Closing ad ➝ reveal next 10 company names

RESUME HOLDER

Concept Note on “Resume Holder”

In 1975, when I told Gunnar Hansen (my boss at L&T),
"We are facing problems",
he simply walked away by saying,
"Parekh, we thrive on problems".
That became a GunnMantra.

But what about self-created problems?
These too must be solved ourselves.

Here is how:

Earlier (or really currently), when a recruiter posts a job-advt on Naukri / Monster etc.,
he would receive 100 / 200 resumes in his mailbox — over the next 15 days.

That is because:

Page 2/7

  • Not many jobseekers have PC / Internet access to job-portals

  • Amongst thousands of jobs, probability of a perfectly matching job getting listed in search results is very low.

But what happens when jobseekers start using “My Jobs” widget?

  • No need for PC / Internet. Smartphone will do.

  • No need for “job-searching” amongst thousands.
Our match-making software will deliver 5 perfectly matched jobs, every day.

Result?

  • Instead of 100 / 200 resumes, a recruiter’s mailbox will get flooded with 1000 / 2000 resumes!

Jobseekers will “apply” (even for less interesting jobs), simply because widget will make it so EASY to apply!! FREE

So,

While solving a problem for jobseekers,
we will create a problem for recruiters.

Even when he got 100/200 resumes in his mailbox, recruiter had tough time, reading them all, to sort out 10/15 which were really promising. He had to spend hours.

With 2000 resumes in his mailbox, life could become miserable!

Solution?

▶ A widget called “Resume Holder”

Historical Background:

▶ We had this feature on our website
 (dehosted a few months back)

How did “Resume Holder” solve recruiters’ problem of resumes “flooding” his mailbox?

▶ By “tapping” resumes (of jobseekers who are applying), and never letting these to reach recruiter’s mailbox.

▶ By having a separate “Resume Holder” for each job-advt, and dumping resumes in this.

▶ Whenever any jobseeker applied against…

Any specific job-advt, online, his resume got stored in [relevant] Resume Holder. [respective]

▻ But the most interesting part was:

In each Resume Holder, whatever resumes arrived, got arranged in the descending order of the “Percentile Score” which our software “assigned” to each resume.

Resumes with high percentile score were at the top.

Which meant,

– even if there are 1000 or 2000 resumes in any Resume Holder, the top 10 or 20 were the BEST candidates!

Recruiter needed to read these few and decide whom to call for interview.

▻ No need to lookup mailbox!

Just Login and lookup Resume Holders (Online), whenever time permits.

▻ No need to segregate resumes, job-advt wise, all mixed-up in mailbox!

Can we replicate this “functionality” in a widget?

Yes.

Inferior in some respects.
Superior in some other respects.

“Where” Inferior?

▻ On a PC screen, we can display dozens of Resume Holders, but on a mobile screen, we can, at most, show 3 resume holders, for last 3 job-adverts.

And,

on a small mobile screen, for any of those 3 job-adverts, we will display only the TOP 5 (best) resumes.

“Where” Superior?

▻ No need for recruiter to be tethered to PC/Internet

▻ Can “access” best resumes (from all arrivals) on-the-go, at any time

▻ Can download any of these TOP 5,

By touching Download button on widget

  • Can, at once, talk to that candidate, by touching button
    Call Mobile

  • Can fix up an interview (even while talking), by touching a button
Interview Scheduler → Like "Calendar" app & synchronized with recruiter's desktop

And,
during all these activities, if recruiter touches/opens a PRODUCT ADVT, then we will “reward” him with 5 more next-best resumes in the queue! (No free lunch!)

Incidentally, we have replaced "Percentile Score" with Raw Score. Serves the same purpose.

After obsoleting "Online JobSearch", we must obsolete "Online Resume Search".

Some very tentative screen-shots are as follows:

I would appreciate receiving your comments.
“Resume Holder” could be taken up before taking up “HeadHunter”.

Additional Note (Red Ink - Final Page):

To be added to "covering letter" to resume-forwarding emails (whenever jobseekers “apply” — online or thru widget — after Resume Holder gets ready):

"By posting your future jobs on our website only,
you can stop job-applicants from flooding your mailbox.
Once you do, all applicant-resumes will get stored in your Resume Holder for you to view, whenever you want."

WHICH AD NETWORK TO CHOOSE?

Shuklendu / Abhi
21 Nov. 2011

Which Ad Network to choose for displaying Ads on our "My Jobs" widget?

In response to my inquiry, on Nov. 17, Siddarth (InMobi) replied as follows:

“To start off with, you would receive a revenue share of 60% of net revenues in your favour.

Our average Android CPCs are about $0.03–4 for India, while the network average CTRs would be around 0.5%.

Based on the CTR that you achieve, your app will earn revenue.”

As against this, when we met Sumeet Tuli on 16th Nov, he indicated that the Ad Network which he plans to tie-up with (Zedo.com), pays to the publisher a flat amount of Rs. 24 per 1000 Ad-Impressions published.
That means, Zedo (or its Advertisers) just don’t bother about how many of those Ads get clicked!

Zedo.com claim to have tied up with an Indian job-portal, www.taaza.com.

On Zedo.com website, I could not find any mention of:

  • CPC

  • CTR

  • Ad Revenue Share (Publisher)

▶ Anyway, assuming what Sumeet said as true picture, I have made some comparison of Ad Revenue that we (thru widget) might expect to receive from both of these Ad Networks. See enclosed graph.

▶ If my assumptions are correct, you will find that even at the CTR of 0.5%, revenue from InMobi is Rs. 10 vs. Rs. 24 from Zedo

▶ But the “breakeven/Take-over” CTR is approx 1.1 —
i.e. at CTR of 1.1%, revenues from both equal.
And beyond that, revenues from InMobi rapidly overtake Zedo, and keep climbing.

▶ As suggested in my yesterday’s email, if we can “motivate” jobseekers to frequently click on InMobi’s ads, thereby pushing up CTR to 2% to 3%, we will gain enormously to tie-up with InMobi.
Any comments/suggestions? Regards
